The League of Women Voters did not respond to yesterday's email about their involvement in protesting "Kings" while ignoring examples of "Kings and Queens" here in Clallam County. Here is today's email sent to the county commissioners:
Dear Commissioners Ozias, Johnson, and French,
After reading this article, which highlights ongoing concerns about public safety, accountability, and quality of life in Clallam County, do you believe Clallam County residents are better off today than when each of you first took office (11, 10, and 3 years ago, respectively)? If so, in what measurable ways has the county improved—and how are those outcomes being tracked? I will publish your responses in full and unedited for the public.
I think that the summation, the indictment, makes sense. I appreciate the CCWD shining the light on the underbelly of the beast.
The ignorant comments from the PA "city manager" is emblematic of how lopsided power works. Like losing weight, you didn't gain it overnight, you can't shed it overnight either when you're pissed off looking at yourself in the mirror. The changes have been evolving for a while, and any attempts to reverse it will take time.
Focus your energy. Stay vigilant and look for opportunities.
The ignorant comment was from city manager Nathan West, not the mayor. Nathan West salary info from 2023 data on GovSalaries, keep in mind 3 years of increases after this data:
Nathan West A in 2023 was employed at City of Port Angeles and had an annual salary of $179,827, according to public records. This salary was 137 percent higher than the average and 133 percent higher than the median salary in City of Port Angeles.
According to the public records employee's salary increased by $14,454 from 2022 to 2023, which is a 8.7 percent rise. Since 2015, the salary has increased by $59,732, a total rise of 49.7 percent.
We can't shed it fast enough! Too busy working to keep up with escalating taxes and cost of living to do free slave labor for the rulers that his lordship demands.
I haven't always liked the way the PA mayor, Kate Dexter, ran meetings and public comment and have been openly critical of her at times.
I have also noted her efforts to maintain decorum and appearance of fairness to improve meeting process in the last few months. In particular I felt she handled the last meeting with LSW present rather well, considering his numerous aggressive attempts to derail the meeting.
I don't agree with many of her ideas, but in my experience when encountering her "in the wild" out from behind the dais, she acted as a cordial representative of the city and did not seem to display holding a grudge due to negative feedback (unlike some of the other past and repeat council members)
West was basically responsible for replacing waste management with city employees etc. at the cities solid waste facility. Maybe a good move maybe not. Someone far more capable than I am could shed some light on that decision. Financially was it a good move. Including long term costs, health insurance, retirement.
It's interesting that happened around the same time council was adding city "desk" jobs at a furious pace. Every time I heard LSW say "building capacity" I cringed thinking of the cost and benefits that non govt workers rarely receive.
This vicious assault on our community by many in government management can't possibly be explained by simple "politics" or differences in opinions~! NO ONE can make the worst decisions 100% of the time, unless they are very intentional~! We need to purge our government of these corrupt treasonous fools and reduce the number of government management positions along with their outrageous wages~! I bet that would eliminate many of these criminals in government who are in it for the money, and we would then have a FAR better chance of finding very good folks who wanted to put the community first, rather than lining their own pockets as a priority~!
Yes, we will do what we can to help Jake Seegers get into office~!
I am concerned for him because it is a lot like throwing someone to the wolves, but if he is up for the challenge hopefully "we" can get him some help to clean up the garbage in government management that is stinking the community up~! Here is some absolutely amazing humor that I hope you and everyone else on The Watchdog can enjoy~! Sincerely, Mike
“Remember your whole race is guest on this continent” Wow! I guess the dogs have been here from time immemorial and have that same inherent stewardship gene.
haha - I have 87% more Neanderthal DNA than the 23 & Me customers... which gives me more allergies to everything, RHnegative blood, dupuytrens contracture, and other maladies...
OMG Beetle, you are correct. I looked it up, this is what I found;
While history of humans and dogs in the Americas is widely contested, many indigenous peoples stories have been told since TIME IMMEMORIAL.
First up the Salish Wool Dog is an extinct breed of white, long-haired, Spitz-type dog that was developed and bred by the Coast Salish peoples of so called Washington state and British Columbia. The small, long-haired wool dog and the coyote-like village dog were deliberately maintained as separate populations. The dogs were kept in packs of about 12 to 20 animals, and fed primarily raw and cooked salmon. They were often used to make "wool" blankets and clothing.
Well if you say it Jennifer, than the dogs have been here longer. My cocker spaniel would like to run for office. She doesn’t chew her nails, sometimes an inappropriate lick to the underside, but hey, no biggie. She knows how to press a yes and a no button.
Maybe overqualified for the job. Her ancestors may have ventured south from the tundra. Nomadic in nature, but more civilized than those around Tumwater creek. Go Jake and Go Shelly. She identifies as female and black.
House Bill 2266 passed this last session, opening up the door for SUPPORTIVE HOUSING to be placed in ANY NEIGHBORHOOD IN THE STATE.
Following the bill’s passage, Andrea Suarez of We Heart Seattle took a tour of a so-called “tiny village” and made a shocking discovery of how these villages are enabling drug users when speaking with a resident.
“There’s a drug house right there for people who do drugs. So you come and do your drugs, if you’re going to do fetty (fentanyl) or something, you come in here and do it,” the tiny village resident told Suarez. “You come in here to do your fetty, and NOBODY SAYS ANYTHING. Narcan is up here. Usually, it’s full of people; it’s the end of the month. Everybody’s running out of money. It’s funny because the drug dealers, they’re in there smoking with people.”

PBH - PERMANENT SUPPORTIVE HOUSING DAWN VIEW COURT
A new Washington state law will require local governments to allow housing for people experiencing homelessness in residential areas.
Communities across the state have pushed back to varying degrees to permitting homeless shelters and permanent supportive housing in their neighborhoods. Also, WITHOUT REQUIRING THAT THEY RECEIVE TREATMENT. Local jurisdictions cannot say no either.
ABeetle, people can only be forced to endure so much. My son and his younger male neighbors have had an understanding that no homeless person can set up shop along their street. This started just before Covid. The homeless are strongly "encouraged" to move on. It has worked so far....why am I hearing the words 'forced vigilantism' floating around? It's a whisper now, but....
I’d like to see the good old fashioned work camps, popular during WWII. Homeless, feed yourselves, fix problems in living conditions. Look how fast (not enough for some) FEMA and Army Corps got people in to trailers. They weren’t made to last long but became a stop gap between Katrina house loss and somewhere to stay.
The thought of $350k housing units makes me think not only are the homeless on drugs but so are those government workers BOCCC. They must be completely loaded.
Just let the drug impaired tear down some other building and sell the copper etc. then lock them up in jail. Oh no, not our jail, a real one that keeps criminals!
Susan, good ideas. The homeless, who receive FREE anything, can work for it. They can be 'hired' to help f 4PA clean up their mess. No workee no freebies.
Just because it is illegal for the encampments on public property, hasn’t slowed them down. Addicts are weak, lack coordination when high and brains fill a small space in their skulls. My point, a bus ride to Mexico. We have received so much from the southern borders, isn’t it time to give back?
Well, I pray to see change here, it’s not gonna happen overnight. This is why I carry a cc permit. I’m not advocating going out and shooting anybody of course but I will protect myself. I won’t even go to PA at night. I don’t feel safe there. Our police officers only do so much with the resources that they have.
I hope at today’s no kings protest that my fellow CC Watchdogs that can come out and show support for the No Kings protest here in Clallam County will unite and stand in solidarity to properly and quietly protest the injustice here in our county, no kings commissioners, no king Ferguson and the like. I for one have had enough because I am literally being taxed out of my home. I have a few friends that will be with me and we will not engage in banter, back-and-forth. I will have signs on my car and just drive down Washington Street during the protest. I hope to see you all out there because this is what we will have to do to demand accountability.
Evrita, I like your courage and fierce determination. One caution: When you are standing in your own space with your own sign, a group will/may surround you to intimidate you. They do not respect courtesy or boundaries. Prayers that you are safe and enjoy being the sole person of reason.
Good Grief! What are they? A bunch of Bullies from Middle/high school?? I was bullied in HS. I won't say why, but it was a racist, 'superficial' reason. Intolerant a**holes...
Sorry to hear how rough your high school days were, AB. It's like attending your 10 or 20 year high school reunion. The same people you knew are only older and have changed very little. They just found a bigger clique.

Clallam County Administrative Manual
Issue Date: April 29, 2003 Use of County Technology
While the Clallam County Administrative Manual does not
prohibit county commissioners from gluing stickers to county laptops, doing so
creates an image of disrespect, or even contempt, toward the citizens they purport
to represent. Even though there are no restrictions on this practice, there are
restrictions on county personnel placing decals and other signs on county property,
such as vehicles. When asked about this, commissioners responded with, ”…just
did it for fun and …exercising 1st amendment right…”. Sounds rather
sophomoric to me.
As a rabid whinner and complainer, I’d like to point out the wording used in the commissioner meeting agenda referring to the fourth Tuesday of the month as the “Commissioner Forum” instead of “Constituent Forum”. Freudian?
Not related directly to this post: I received an email notification from Field Hall about an upcoming forum on local journalism. https://fieldhall.ludus.com/show_page.php?show_id=200500829 Curious if any of our emerging CC substackers will be attending or participating?
Another book and release. A repeat offender not facing accountability. More taxpayers money going towards public offenders and hospital treatment. As long as the current elected officials are in office nothing will change. As long as taxpayers keep voting yes on levy lifts, nothing will change. Taxes for "public safety and welfare" taxes for the hospital, taxes for the library that services the homeless. Keep voting yes and see the same results. Hey, there's funds to be had on the drug addicted, homeless and criminal elements. All in the name of compassion. And, residents with common sense are moving away making room for more liberal, socialist people to move here. No Kings rally today in Sequim, too many people believe in socialism, old white people from California.
That’s great to see that a letter from CC Letters was shared; and you shared it too; thanks! That section stood out to me when I proofread it. Hey, I voted; I thought that meant I could complain. LOL.
Quite honestly, I generally avoid sovereign land because I understand that the laws are different. Ask anyone who has a half native offspring. Kidnap, custody and court orders won’t be enforced on native territory. The culture and attitude is completely distinct.
I've noted this before. In the early 80's I worked in a remote native village/town in Alaska and loose dogs were a constant problem. Sooner or later they find another to pack up with and it exponentially multiplies their aggression, and the more that pack up the worse it becomes. Back then LE shot the aggressive dogs on site. Done deal. Limited resources, and the healthy understanding that humans cannot effectively live in that scenario.
I've been through Neah Bay a few times and have seen single and a group of two dogs running about with no human around. I can appreciate the situation.
We were going through there about 5 years ago, and stopped because a small white dog ran out in front of us on the main highway. Would not come to us. We worried that it would be hit by traffic.... sad.
You can say that only the people who really care about a town go to the local governing body meetings to complain. On the other hand, it's very evident these days that governing body members read pages like CCWD because they sure do complain about the commenters.
Personally, I did my time at public meetings. I was a editor, reporter and photographer for a couple of different papers for a total of about 30 years and went to thousands of public meetings. I kept my opinions to myself and upheld that ideal of objectivity but that work kept me away from my family. I don't do that anymore. So I tee off to you guys.
We in the Peanut Gallery have been told by the three hamsters (commissioners) that they will not answer some questions by spme people because they feel these people are conduits to CCWD and other substacks.
By the way, remember last year how a bunch of people wanted to promote OMC's chief physician officer, Dr Allen Chen, to CEO? Well, Dr Chen has announced that he is leaving OMC on June 19. A memo went out to staff last week. No replacement has been named and no word on what they will do to replace him.
I emailed people I know at the PDN about this on Thursday or Friday. I expect they're being given the "take a flying leap" response from OMC which plays dumb or ignores their questions.
Why are firearms violations not taken seriously in WA? If we had a prosecutor with a spine, he could have this mutt put away for years just on the firearms charges alone. Instead, firearms charges are always the first thing to be pled away if they even make it to the charge sheet to begin with.
My thoughts, too. Where is the law when firearms are used in a crime? This is a blue states that wants to limit legal ownership, but shrugs when the bad guy flaunts the laws.
It would lead one to believe that a certain level of mayhem due to 2nd Amendment abuse is desirable to the Democrats to keep their push for eventual confiscation alive. A cynical man would think that. Tell me how the cynical man would be wrong.
We have seen too many terrible tragedies from animals getting killed on the roads, so we always do our best to keep our pups and ither critters within our yard~! That said, from time to time we do get a "visit" from our neighbors' dogs, and they really don't bother any of our critters because they are good pups just doing what dogs do. Unfortunately, there are many who hate dogs and other animals, as well as the "NAZI minded" fools who have no brains or compassion for how challenging it is to have animals, and they always make life FAR more difficult and uglier than it needs to be. After all, trouble is what a lot of people live for! I have met good decent animal control folks who love animals and work very well to keep the peace in the community and every now and then there is a NAZI "Barney Fife" lunatic who is power mad and believes that they have the right to be bullies and mini dictators. Good folks always make the effort to get along and never need "The Government" to get into the way, but we all know people who just don't know how to get along well, and they always leave a wake of BS everywhere they go. One of the most common problems is when an individual moves from a life living in a nasty city environment, into the peaceful country setting where they IMMEDIATELY start all kinds of trouble because their heads are FULL of the "crazy city mentality" and that NEVER goes well. No matter where an Individual decides to move to, it is always wise and proper to be considerate of those who already live in that neighborhood and community, because it is the new Individuals responsibility to adjust to the community and NOT the community's responsibility adjust to the newcomer~! The fastest way to make yourself disliked and unwanted in any community, is to start pushing the folks who already live there around and make crazy demands that just piss folks off~! If you want to be accepted in a new environment, just remember that others have lived there before you and it will be noticed if you go out of your way to cause trouble. Besides, during these difficult times, good folks know that they are all alone if things get ugly, so it is always wise to be a positive part of the community just in case. Our neighborhood here West of Sequim has seen many folks come together to help each other over the past 10 years, while the cities are falling apart in violence & dysfunction in many areas... All too predictable~! The government is NOT going to save everyone, and the government more often than not IS the problem or will make a small problem FAR worse, so getting along in good faith really is the only way to go~!

That’s great to see that a letter from CC Letters was shared; and you shared it too; thanks! That section stood out to me when I proofread it. Hey, I voted; I thought that meant I could complain. LOL.

Good follow up article!
Quite honestly, I generally avoid sovereign land because I understand that the laws are different. Ask anyone who has a half native offspring. Kidnap, custody and court orders won’t be enforced on native territory. The culture and attitude is completely distinct.
Oh my I never thought of that, but child custody is already a difficult subject and I cam't imagine dealing with that added complexity
No doubt at all.
Crap
I emailed people I know at the PDN about this on Thursday or Friday. I expect they're being given the "take a flying leap" response from OMC which plays dumb or ignores their questions.
sad
You've got a great perspective to add to concerns about the local media.
I can't, GM, because I'm a cynical woman.
WE have good laws they just don,t in force them, they make new ones to to tie the hands of the just and sane for their devious corrupt schemes.
Sincerely, Mike
