Well said. My only criticism of the CC Watchdog is we are missing Commissioner replacements in these articles. So far, I get it... But after a while it's "so what?" Where are the replacements? I realize Jeff can't manufacture them in a test tube but we need alternatives. I'd like to know we can refuse to pay taxes without the county putting a lien on our properties. Just try to sell your house with a lien on it. In the end you WILL pay or the transaction of sale will not occur!
Joe, if you are 3 years behind on your property taxes the county can start the process to force you to sell your house to recover those taxes. First recovery goes to the lender if you have a mortgage, next to the county. It's a long process, but it happens. Bankruptcy can allow you to keep your home under certain conditions, but, it isn't an easy process. Refusing to pay taxes, when you have the means to do so will not alleviate liens or property tax obligations.
Any 'tax lien' just has to be settled and can be negotiated.
You don't plan on never paying taxes, you just withhold (enough of us) to cause the 'powers that be', i.e., scum sucking maggots, to HAVE to deal with the populace and force them to resign... or do their proper job of running our local gov't efficiently and with common sense. I see what we are doing is riding the swells...I encountered 2-1/2 days of no wind, no 'waves' but 30-50' SWELLS about 600' apart...glassy smooth MOUNTAINS of water which I gently motored up the face of and glided down the backside of...it terrified me for most of a day until I realized these 'mountains' of water weren't going to hurt me and Thank God there weren't wind blown waves on top of those swells because that would probably not have been survivable...not that it really matters...we are not our bodies... but the essence that occupies the bodies while they last!

When J-school started "teaching" the quality of reporting plummeted. The old way -- working your way up from copyboy, to cub reporter, etc... was the REAL way to learn the news business. All that is lost to farming it out to a bunch of education types....who don't have a clue. I've found that the best way to stifle education was to get people who can't find their way out of a paper bag (open at one end, and a hole at the other) to be the administrators who make policy.

It’s up to press associations to recognize reporters — or not. Local officials can decide whom they will treat as a regular reporter — mostly who gets called back when phone messages are left — but in truth, they should treat anyone who says he or she works in journalism as one. At the local level, I think anyone who puts in his or her time at meetings and reports on them, online or in print, should get that recognition.

During a commissioner's meeting awhile back, they discussed the new Open Space guidelines. Pam requested the addition of wording that would disqualify landowners of designated forestry or agriculture property, who are deemed to be "out of compliance", from moving their property to open space. The problem with this, especially in light of these comments, is that the Assessor does not have the capacity to oversee compliance. So, mistakes will be made. When the Assessor gets an appraisal wrong, the entire burden of proof is placed upon the taxpayer to demonstrate this failure. I'm concerned that the addition of this language with threaten tax exempt land by placing the burden of proof on the landowner and leaving dispute resolution to the Board of Equalization, which seems to defer to the Assessor's "expertise".

Thank you, Dr. Sarah, for sharing that audio clip of the Assessor. I was in the gallery for that comment and have been thinking about it in terms of the upcoming Open Space hearing. During a commissioner's meeting awhile back, they discussed the new Open Space guidelines. Pam requested the addition of wording that would disqualify landowners of designated forestry or agriculture property, who are deemed to be "out of compliance", from moving their property to open space. The problem with this, especially in light of these comments, is that the Assessor does not have the capacity to oversee compliance. So, mistakes will be made. When the Assessor gets an appraisal wrong, the entire burden of proof is placed upon the taxpayer to demonstrate this failure. I'm concerned that the addition of this language with threaten tax exempt land by placing the burden of proof on the landowner and leaving dispute resolution to the Board of Equalization, which seems to defer to the Assessor's "expertise".

Maybe starting at the bottom of the list from least efficient assessors office (meaning the least parcels per FTE) to the most efficient? Anyone up for a project? No, I didn't know that James Stoffer has wormed his way into being a mini-dictator "moderator" on the Nextdoor web site, but he is definitely the type of treasonous scumbag who will seek out positions where he can dominate others, abuse power, and bully others to forward his sick agendas~! I never personally bothered with the Nextdoor platform because I have heard from other analysts that I trust that it is a cesspool of gossip, ugly political socialists, and mentally ill people, with some great folks who are trying to engage in a reasonable conversation. God bless the good folks who are on Nextdoor who have good and honorable intentions, but I am obliged to spend most of my time on the bigger picture these days. I do however very much enjoy and admire the folks here in The Watchdog community because the vast majority are very Intelligent and truly Patriotically motivated~!
