Today's quesiton emailed to the Commissioners:

Dear Commissioners,

Is there anything you would have done differently in the handling of Towne Road?

Kirsten's avatar

And might I add that if not for you & this blog, none of us would know about any of this stuff. You’re opening eyes & shining a light so don’t ever think that you’re complaining. You’re absolutely not. You’re doing exactly what you set out to do & I’m not the only one who is grateful to you for that.

Jeff Tozzer's avatar

And in my defense, when I complained about allergies, three people gave me VERY effective decongestants. Today, my complaint is: "I really wish I had hair plugs and maybe a little Botox around my eyes and forehead."

Complaining is powerful; you all have taught me that it gets me things.

Eric Fehrmann's avatar

Sorry, can't provide any hair plugs.🧑‍🦲

JJW's avatar

Do you have a preference from where the plugs come from?Thinking from my ears of course.LOL.

Jeff Tozzer's avatar

Beggars can't be choosers!

Kirsten's avatar

Jeff, you’re not complaining. You’re CC WATCHDOG. You started this blog to “hold county leaders accountable”, not offer solutions. That’s their job, if they’d just DO their job to begin with.

Eric Fehrmann's avatar

Yeah, DO YOUR JOB! They appear to think their job is to hand over their responsibilities to NGO's, or others, and then fund them. They seem to believe that serving on boards and garnering accolades is their job. They are legacy building.

Kind of coincidental that the road now needs to be relocated so quickly after the Tribe secured management of the land and bay past the Kiosk to enter the spit.

The road could be moved over 20’ in the area of concern near the bluffs at 1/10th of the expense and last another 75 years.

Pretty evident as to whom this project is really for. Perhaps for truck traffic to pick up Oysters from the new farming operation?

The JKT influence over clallam county is getting pretty annoying and probably violates county policy. But when elected officials break their oaths to public policy with no oversight officials willing to enforce rules then JKT will keep trying to get their way which usually benefits them at taxpayers expense.

Jeff, thank you for keeping us all informed. It takes a lot of effort and we appreciate it.

Maybe I am missing something, but if the tribe is "managing" the park, shouldn't they be responsible for the access road? Just thinking 🤔

Jeff Tozzer's avatar

It's tricky. The park is still under county management (but Commissioner Ozias is exploring co-management). The National Wildlife Refuge, which begins about where you pay and walk past the informational kiosk, is what the Jamestown Tribe just took over management of. From there all the way past the lighthouse.

Growing up, I thought it was all one thing... but it's actually a county park that abuts a National Wildlife Refuge.

Make the commissioners responsible by making them buy a performance bond.

It is required in most big construction projects. Maybe for

100m and if they screw up the insurance company pays

the damages. I doubtwith these guys track record any

Bonding Co would touch it. That ought to tell you something.

I’m appalled that a national park was just given away to another “country”. Does anyone know who we can contact about that?

San Fran's avatar

Also - so much for the supposed indigenous tribal values of preserving the native ecosystem.

Seems to me that I can remember a few years ago the county doing a long range planning thing for the Dungeness recreation area in which they pretty much turned it into a large RV park. Wonder if there’s a connection.

Here we go again. It is what Ozias wants, for his largest donor. It is not what the people he represents are asking for. What about the dangerous intersection at Old Olympic & Cays Road or Old Olympic & Kitchen Dick where numerous deaths & injuries have occurred? Have deaths or injuries occurred out where the park is? I doubt there is the amount of traffic flow in the park like there is in the other locations needing attention?

It began with being handed the management of the park operations and ends in being a co manager of the complete park. The tribe is accountable to NO ONE. THE TRIBE HAS SAID 100 TIMES…..WE DO NOT HAVE TO ACCOUNT TO ANYONE, WE FILE OUT REQUIRED PAPER WORK & AND THAT IS ALL WE ARE REQUIRED BY LAW TO DO.

Can’t imagine a CountybCommissioner suggesting handing over co-management to an entity who can’t be held accountable.

I think we’ll be seeing a totem pole erected any day now at the County Courthouse.

MK's avatar

I wonder if they'll be responsible with our tax dollars and have to disclose how it's been used, or use low-bid contractors?

4 reasonable development's avatar

The answer is no they do not disclose anything nor can they be held responsible. We have been there many times. NO DISCLOSURE NO RESPONSIBILITY! PERIOD!

Paula Simms's avatar

The curve at the Kitchen-Dick/Lotzgesell curve is so unnecessary. We live near the curve and the curve is the only thing that actually slows drivers down! Seven accidents in seven years? The funds would be used more appropriately to make some changes at Old Olympic and Kitchen-Dick roads where there are far more accidents.

Eric Fehrmann's avatar

I travel that area frequently, and am certain that the proposed curve will result in increase speeds. How is this a top priority road project?

The mindset of our elected officials is that once elected it was a mandate to act. Instead of being inclusive of the electorate and showing that we matter, the tendency is to act on us with not only impunity, but without a conscience.

I recall McCain being told that by Obama, and it's a frequent refrain in national politics since then. I'm beyond done with that belief nationally as both sides use it as a cudgel, and it has no business in our local issues.

The only way our elected officials get information and act is from the boards they sit on (county sponsored, or NGO), and those positions are locked up by one-sided thought. We have an imbalance of ideas not only on these boards, but in our elected officials.

We will be told what's good for us, and we'll be happy with it. That's the daily groul being served in Clallam County.

Edit:

A shout-out to Commissioner Richards, for the common sense tone he has continuously taken, who in the last CRC meeting suggested that hiding information from the public via information labeled ACP is disengenuous to public knowledge of the issues.

The current Clallam County Commissioner Creed: Creating problems where none previously existed, under the guise of benefitting taxpayers, while buying favors for the few, blatantly disregarding the needs of those who finance said favors. I wonder who will personally benefit from these "re-alignments", at the former Voice of America site? I am certain that there are dissenting voices to be heard within our County Government, who are also taxpayers themselves, but a Countermeasure Clause must have been written into their contracts; silence is the death knell. "Voice of America", indeed.

Timothy Weller's avatar

"...You will own nothing, and be happy", is not a request.

Ozais seems to be at the center of putting everything the County does for approval by the Tribe. And how much money did he get from the Tribe for his election? Come on, DOJ, where are you when we need you most? There is a connection between him and the Tribe that needs some sunlight.

Thanks to the Watchdog for sharing what really goes on at Charter Review meetings, and many more thanks to all the people speaking out during public comments! The comment you played from Pat yesterday was amazing; and all of today’s were just as incredible. So many good points; bravo!

I like to think the elected officials left with their tails between their legs, but I don’t think sociopaths are capable of feeling that way. Good job, everyone!

MK's avatar

Pat rocked it.

Oh, boy, here we go again! Thank you to Jeff and all of the alert citizens for keeping on top of another road project. Regarding the CRC meeting, Jeff, you were singled-out again. It's hard to watch and witness the cliqish favoritism amongst the Commissioners. But you continue to stand up for your constituents. Thank you! There were so, so many excellent public comments at Monday night's CRC meeting. It was very reassuring to see so many engaged and concerned people. And Shennan Junger was outstanding!! Twice!! And then there was ANOTHER need for procedural order about it being optional for public commenters disclosing their name and residence for the record. Ms. Cummins has commented on this at several BoCC meetings. How could the CRC and the LWV not know this? Ugh!

Charles's avatar

We have been telling the county for the last 8 years we have lived here that they do not need to reshape that curve. Drivers already take that curve like they are training for NASCAR and often times overshoot the Park entrance and then backup to get into the park! I see it daily. The federal funding to do this project has dried up every year and hopefully will do so again. There are. many more urgent problems they need to address like the Cays Road/Old Olympic intersection with many accidents ending up in people that live on that corners yard and even a fatality accident on the intersection.

Glen Parker's avatar

I have left my concerns and advice to the roads department...trying to save taxpayers dollars should be a priority but we'll see once again. How can we trust Mark Ozias ever again?

Sarah Kincaid's avatar

The BOCCC has a history of ignoring the needs of the tax-paying citizens for the wants of the Tribe. Vote for Jake Seegers!

Oh good grief the stoffer fan is disgusting.

Dang the whistleblower rocked it. Her statement nailed it!
