PA City Councilmember Mark Hodgson did not reply to yesterday's email. The commissioners did not respond to the email the day before that (there was a typo saying that they had). Here is today's email sent to the commissioners:

Dear Commissioners,

After seeing details from the recent arrest involving Mr. Wilson—including a firearm with a removed serial number, cash, a scale, and what appeared to be drug-use paraphernalia commonly associated with harm reduction distribution:

How are you measuring whether harm reduction programs are actually reducing drug activity in our community, rather than enabling or sustaining it—and what evidence can you point to that justifies approving an additional $100,000 in funding?

If outcomes like this are occurring, it raises serious questions about whether current strategies are working as intended.

You are so polite, Jeff. WTF are you using 100k on? We need metrics, evidence, and follow through. The jails aka

(In And Out) policy is ripping the citizens off. Remember us? Safety is for the population not the criminals.

What an inept group to answer questions. Also some of us would be glad to submit your letters to see if it’s just you they ignore or any question whatsoever that they can’t answer. I would like a peaceful protest at the court house that says “NO MORE BS” nothing was aimed at Jeff. Thank God he is here. Frustration is at a very high level. May need to take a break (from Wa State)

Politically I believe that the human species is not completely stupid and the strategies are often working exactly like intended. We are glad that you noticed.

Looking forward to the opportunity and I appreciate that we do have government officials willing to stick their necks out to attend an event like this. I think that it's incredibly rare in this politically charged environment, and is I treasure that.

I recall listening to a recording of the last one and towards the end thought to myself, "Why would anyone come again if they as attendees had to listen and watch people lose their cool, or as panelists were treated the way they were?"

I heard contentious positions that devolved into people not being able to hold their composure, and it wasn't the panelists dragging it down. I imagined those who were in the dust-ups felt justified for letting someone have it, but not understand they were making spectacles of themselves and in so changing no one's minds.

What I'll leave this comment with is what I want this to be. I hope that this event serves as a basis that garners future meetings because as I've said, this is a rare gift. I want the opportunity to hear a government official explain themselves so that I can understand their position, even if I think it's crap. At least I've heard from the horses mouth. If I want to share an idea then I will, but my promise is that I'm not going to jeer, snicker, laugh, or otherwise detract from the intent when others speak.

Clallam County commissioners have stated that public safety is their number one priority. Tonight is our chance to question the elected or appointed officials in attendance on WHO, WHAT, and HOW they are fulfilling their roles regarding PUBLIC SAFETY. I hope that all citizens can unite behind this issue. It certainly should not be partizan or divisive.

CAS's avatar

Well said, public safety should not be partisan or divisive!! It is the number one job of government, to keep us safe!

Susan C Bonallo's avatar

But that is such a broad label. Which part of public safety should be job one?

Get rid of drug dealers, many problems resolved. Get addicts and homeless removed? Property theft would go down. Get bums out of business entries would reestablish business. Each commissioner should be in charge of one part of safety. Gather a group, supervise and report back to citizens success. Of course we’d see it, right? I’ve got the Clallam County (fix it ) Blues. Once it’s cleaned up the tribe will take your land. Yes I’m Debby frigging downer today. So sick of the losers among us.

If I could convince my husband to leave Wa. state.

I’ll miss him!

MK's avatar

Absolutely Eric, great addition. What I believe people need to be prepared for is hearing information that may not sit well with them. An example might be that if a state law, or higher court ruling, pushes a burden or responsibility on our system that our disagreement rest with this decisions, not those who are tasked with enforcing them. That said, what are our public officials doing to change those requirements, if they can.

Eric Fehrmann's avatar

Maybe someone tonight can answer that question. Maybe the prosecutor? Hope you are able to ask it.

ANDREA L HANA's avatar

I like your new word: "peopleose". It flows off the tongue so nicely!

Did Indivisible Sequim speak up when, among many others, one of their "houseless resident neighbors" killed a man at Safeway and another attacked a bus driver? No, I didn't think so.

Susie Blake's avatar

That call from Indivisible is probably the same as what they put out for the last PA council meeting. The discussion that was supposed to be about crime and drug encampments was derailed by a parade of N95 wearing commentors reading currated 3rd party anonymous comments from "our most vulnrable" and crime as a topic was sidelined and instead of public safety we are getting tent cities for crime .

I can't be there tonight due to work schedule but I know many of you who understand the reality will speak for public safety.

SC's avatar

As many in our community prepare to speak at tonight’s public safety forum, I just want to offer a quick thought for anyone planning to comment or ask questions.

Although I’m unable to attend in person, I am there in spirit and stand behind those who are willing to speak up.

There is real frustration right now. People are seeing open drug use, environmental damage, and a system that often feels like “catch and release.” Those concerns are valid, and they deserve to be voiced.

At the same time, it’s important to be clear about what is-and is not-being said. Wanting safe public spaces, accountability, and basic community standards is not the same thing as lacking compassion for people experiencing homelessness. Framing those concerns as “anti-homeless” shuts down meaningful conversation and prevents real solutions.

A healthy community should be able to hold two truths at once: we can care about people in vulnerable situations, and we can set firm, reasonable boundaries around public safety, environmental protection, and shared spaces.

If we want to be taken seriously, we should communicate in a way that reflects that balance- focused, respectful, and grounded in specific concerns and outcomes. That makes it much harder for anyone to dismiss or mischaracterize what’s being said.

Clear voices will move this conversation forward more than angry ones will. Remain stoic and don't let them strawman you!

Fantastic information here and perspective.

KX's avatar

I agree! Excellent points and thoughts!!

ANDREA L HANA's avatar

Don't we set boundaries for our children? Our friends? Yes, we do. We praise them when they do well, but when they violate those boundaries, we call them out on it or met out punishment. Seldom does it make us reject them.

So, why can't we set boundaries for OTHER people we care about? Even if we don't know a person, we can CARE for them. They're people! Especially when they need help. But we can't individually help everyone! So, communicating the need for practical services and solutions needs to be discussed. What they are doing isn't benfitting these unfortunate people or the community. Let's get real: It benefits the healthcare community monitarily. We know which ones I'm talking about.

" I am giving you a new commandment, that you love one another; just as I have loved you, you also love one another." (Jonh 13:34)

I thought we were building the mega condos for the homeless. How much more can one community that has very limited resources do?

Citizens in CC are not to be blamed for a societal collapse.

We will be mad as hell when new units are trashed to sell anything that can be moved including DISHWASHERS!

Susan C Bonallo's avatar

You can only become a repeat offender by behavior that has worked for you before! So why is our WELCOME mat always clean and tidy for the regulars?

Who really has the final word on how long a criminal must serve? Just hearing the quantity of the illegal drugs found on these frequent flyers, makes me wonder how it is possible that any of them leave jail?

There is a motive here that I’m not understanding and maybe others don’t get it either.

What is the pay-off for not prosecuting and sentencing these criminals to appropriate jail terms related to their crimes? Yes, conspiracy thinking. What the hell? I look at the three pigs and can’t reconcile why they are so impotent at overseeing criminal justice. The justice is for tax paying citizens, so where is it commissioners?

UFOCCWD's avatar

As long as a county has state run facilities like 'Behavior Health-DSHS in a Blue state with a taxaholic radical leftist governor massive homeless-drug addict issues will continue to escalate.C.C.board commissioners voted to volunteer multi millions of tax $$$ for new luxury housing for the homeless drug addicts that will be a never ending money pit that will probably keep growing under current reckless leadership. There is only one way to save C.C. vote out all current reckless liberals in office.

Susan C Bonallo's avatar

I think the tenants, and I’m not biased, will pull all the copper out of the wiring and major appliances will be tied to a rope to hoist them out the windows…..said Susan, former duplex owner!

UFOCCWD's avatar

Maybe the drug addicts will sell their new appliances to undercover drug task force 'OPNET' agents since they are so predictable.

Blake vs the state of Washington very much changed how drug cases in this state are prosecuted.

2026 marks five years since the Washington State Supreme Court ruled in State vs. Blake, known as the Blake Decision, which opened the door to the reversal of hundreds of thousands of drug convictions in the state. The decision had huge impacts on state drug policy, local courts and individual lives.

Implications of the Decision

The ruling had widespread implications, allowing individuals convicted of drug possession under the now-invalidated law to have their convictions vacated. This applies to convictions dating back to 1971. The decision effectively rendered all previous convictions under this statute invalid, leading to potential refunds of legal financial obligations for those affected.

Legislative Response

Following the Blake decision, the Washington State Legislature enacted new laws to address drug possession. Initially, they passed a temporary measure that made drug possession a misdemeanor, requiring diversion for first-time offenders. Subsequently, they established a new law (SB 5536) that classifies knowingly possessing a controlled substance as a gross misdemeanor, with penalties including jail time and fines.

Conclusion

The Blake case represents a significant shift in Washington's approach to drug possession laws, emphasizing the need for a mental state requirement in criminal convictions. It has opened avenues for many individuals to clear their records and has prompted ongoing discussions about drug policy reform in the state.

Government and judicial at its finest, most of us will never know or want to get wrapped up in the labyrinth system, however chances for those to be able to seriously overcome & overturn their lives is very important. Although if caught always deny, deny, deny, like most criminals already know society will most likely reward you for not telling the truth & facing the consequences.

Blake vs Wash. is interpreted differently in every county.

Indivisible Sequim is painting the organizers of tonight's People Forum as a right wing group. We are not guided or controlled by outside organizations. The United States and Washington State Constitutions are our only guiding doctrines. Truly non-partizan. Tonight's meeting is to have a dialog about PUBLIC SAFETY. Not politics.

If you build a system that caters to the crooks, they will come. Is this a business the community wants to be in? I don’t think so.

The shift from incarceration to treatment was supposed to be underwritten in large part by the removal of marijuana from illegal status . (or an exemption to a crime)

Instead recreational marijuana sales as the initiative intended, to be taken from enforcement of marijuana laws and specifically given to the enforcement on property crimes was subverted.

Right out of the gate law enforcement lobbyist subverted the will of the people, and switched the recreational marijuana initiative language under the guise of appeasing federal law enforcement using the since retracted Cole Memo... which they all said in unison ad nausea from AWC, Counties, Sheriffs and police chiefs..oh and ...treatment professionals...all to create a "robust" marijuana regulatory system.

The list of people that Jeff has posted are no doubt allowed to roam around em Rome because they have not been swept up in the property crime net the recreational marijuana initiative was intended to catch and stop.

It was obvious then and its obvious now they need the current out-patient model and the property crimes to keep their funding and labor base growing. It was self serving and self dealing.

It should be noted that the State of Washington paid hundreds of thousands of dollars in lawsuit fees because the law enforcement and treatment professionals were getting federal funding and could not give public testimony on the recreational marijuana policy implementation or the bill run by Senator Rivers to subvert the will of the people, because federal grants do not allow lobbying. They got caught in a "working copy, and "final copy" of a rule making file scandal and the court ruled there is no such thing as a "working copy."

The "working copy" is for the tribal, law enforcement , treatment professional federally grant funded participants, and then the final copy is for when their participation is removed.

The Meta Association are nothing more than blue page builders. They used the recreational marijuana initiative to get public support for one thing and then used the power they have as a "Meta Association" to do the opposite.

Property owners and renters are the ones paying the price. The people wanted to stop spending money on marijuana crimes and wanted to spend it on criminals who committed property crimes. It even had an education element (They all do that.. Lottery etc) and health care element. The Clallam County voters voted overwhelmingly to do that. Instead we get a fake pot police and treatment professional complex full of blue page employees making two grand a week to play hide and seek while the community is overrun by outpatient "neighbors" that traveled farther than Arlo Guthrie to be our neighbor.

They are only good at one other thing. Improving the flubber and magic been detection of citizen activists.

MK's avatar

Say one thing (because it's what people want to hear), then do another when people stop looking.

Unacceptable, but a common tactic in the political world.

John Worthington's avatar

The "Meta Association" self dealing pretty much falls on property owners since the retail sales and sales tax golden goose was slaughtered by Amazon and the internet world economy.

Thank you for playing the statements from Wheeler, French, and Jake!

When it comes to being a free speech absolutist, I’m curious if French feels as strongly for the second amendment as he does the first. Public safety is important, that’s why I never leave home without my husband — he keeps me safe because I know government can’t. It’s not about vigilanteism or going after people; it’s about a person’s right to be safe and secure, and that is just as important as free speech.

It’s just amusing to me that the right to protect oneself is never discussed by officials who love free speech, as if there is only one right that matters when all rights matter.

Special message to Sequim Indivisible members. This demand for your attendance at the "Town Hall" is not an attack on the Calico Cat Social Club (what do you really know about The Cat). It is social conditioning for you all. Sequim Indivisible/League of Women Voters needs you to be in a constant state of moral indignation toward their straw man (extreme right-wing troublemakers), even if they have to make them up, in defense of the "most vulnerable" - even if they have to make them up. More info at 101independents.com.

People wonder why so many elected & appointed are supporting the homeless drug addicts that cause mass problems & expense for others.Look at how many jobs are tied to this issue and then look at which political group get's most of these jobs.
