Has anyone ever heard of over fishing and netting might be one of the reasons that there isn’t as many salmon. They cry about the salmon but history tells a different story. Tribes fished to sustain their people not fish for profit

There are meters put on ALL wells, now. Private, community, or public utility. I am on a community water system. The more we use, the more we pay. I have identified multiple federal grants our county could get right now. I have sent those grants to the Commissioners and to the cities. They refuse to get federal grants to put local people to work, if it does not have a restorative justice purpose.

As a former PDN editor, it turns my stomach to see that paper and the Gazette running columns from government representatives. The papers should be reporting on and investigating the columnists, not giving them free reign to spout their misinformation. I have never been a fan of the PDN and Gazette sharing their used editorial content with each other but understood it as a matter of economics. I don't know why the papers run these columns but my gut tells me they made a deal with the devil.
Someone, I have been in professional media since the mid-1970s, starting in college working on the sports desk of the Sacramento Bee, then moving on to weekly outdoor newspapers, then monthly and bimonthly magazines, both as a paid staffer and a freelancer. As you said, the economics of staying afloat absolutely affects who and what gets covered, and how. I've had stories and story ideas killed because they would have not been kind to power brokers and/or advertisers. And you know how little the local staffers get paid. Social media is the new king of real news coverage, with blogs like CCWD and Callamity Jen that ask real questions the future.

It is a weather resistant covering over a compacted layer of, once again well draining sand and gravel and is sloped to the shoulder . Over time this waterproofing asphalt evaporates and wears away by the traffic , it does not last forever and if not replaced or overlayed with new paving on a regular basis the underlying base deteriorates and the repair costs grow much more expensive. It is obvious highway 101 from Port Angeles to Sequim has not been maintained adequately , so my question is where has the maintenance money we pay in taxes going?

As far as Hydro there was much more damage done right after the Boldt decision in which the local tribes netted every river,stream and mouths of rivers to nearly extinction of Salmon.
I believe it was a knee perk reaction to the decision until everyone figured out that was a bad idea, but the Damage was done.
Hydro is clean and renewable. One might ask or have to choose No electricity or no Salmon.
Fire up the hatchery and start dealing with the predation that at some point will eat themselves to extinction.

This approach speaks volumes. It suggests that the County either lacks confidence in its own workforce or has chosen not to invest in developing internal expertise. Rural counties like ours cannot afford to outsource core functions to external agencies while local talent goes underutilized. Every dollar that leaves the county reduces our ability to build sustainable, community-based solutions.
Taxpayers deserve better stewardship of public funds. Grant dollars should be used to address the issues at hand—not to expand administrative structures, contract out basic functions, or create perpetual planning cycles.
