My experience aligns with your assertions in this article. Far more effort is put into messaging strategies to manage people than into really engage with members of the public who are either harmed by these policies and/or whose lived experiences show a powerfully different reality than that portrayed by various boards.

I, too, lost sleep. My first reaction was to whip out my sewing machine and make cloth masks to donate. I also received the covid injections without a lot of thought because I trusted public health and figured they'd either work or not work, never dreaming that serious adverse reactions were already known, but hidden from the public and from decision-makers like yourself.
Since then, I've witnessed so much devastation from complications to the covid shots.
The problem continues to be that, as new understanding emerges, it's not conveyed to the public, policies aren't adjusted, and people who are adversely impacted are stigmatized and left to suffer without recourse.

Factually incorrect messaging continued to imply that the shots would stop transmission. Clallam county's mandates went even beyond that, pointlessly restricting freedom of movement and the ability to enter restaurants.
--The death of Jessica Wilson (the mom who was required to get the shots to volunteer at school), whose obituary and the social media posts discussing her death were labeled as misinformation.
I also brought up a 3-hour listening session that I organized with state representative, Jenny Graham, who expressed care about the vaccine-injured from a victims' rights standpoint. One of the people whose testimony we shared was a state employee who was mandated to take the shot, then utterly abandoned when he had severe complications to it. That's the common experience.
Censorship, deflection, and delay continue to be the official responses to the desperate needs of innocent people who suffered side effects.
Today, in Clallam county's pharmacies and doctor offices, informed consent is still not conveyed. This would require communicating transparently about known side effects, age/gender risk/benefit stratification, and the total absence of a safety net for this particular injection.
It shouldn't be controversial to say the true statement that some people were harmed and deserve support, or that full informed consent is mandatory. Public acknowledgement and some movement on the local level to understand and help these individuals is an important step towards compassionate, ethical change.
Comm. Johnson is steadfast in his decision to defer all unchallenged authority to Dr. Berry during COVID lockdoens and mandates. He will never apologize for it while in office.
You might be able to schedule a meeting with commissioner Johnson if you talk with him in person immediately after a Tuesday board meeting. Not exactly open and transparent accessibility.
I'll continue trying, but there's a real unwillingness on the part of nearly every authority figure to see or listen. My own worldview has changed dramatically because of this truly horrendous breach of trust at so many levels, but I am more convinced than ever that ordinary people who are committed to doing right by one another are the ones who will actually bring change.

I have never heard a commissioner or any elected in this county publicly admit to being wrong, or even saying a public commenter had a good idea. The pivot they claim to be making on harm reduction is due to loss of grant funding not a pivot on philosophy.

What we're missing is something that other progressive groups do so well. There's no organization. While I have an inherent avoidance for people who group together because I truly don't agree with everything anyone else says or thinks, a core set of values could bring us together and I don't think that this is in Jake's or Jeff's wheelhouse.
We're flailing individually, occasional mosquito bites easily brushed off. Individually we lose efficiency to be gained by assembling around the core values. By assembling the power is not linear rather exponential. Something like the Calico Cat? I don't know.
You're right about hyper-organized and well-funded political movements' ability to drown out independent voices. But I think our best shot is on the local level.
And I also agree that Independents value independence-- by nature, we're not aligned with everything someone else things (and aren't seeking that kind of alignment).
Part of the real value of what Jeff and Jake are doing lies in the creation of opportunities for critical thinkers to ask questions together, even if we don't have all the same questions, concerns, or opinions.
That's what actual governance, communities, and relationships should look like: unique individuals who value each other across differences and find ways to flourish together.
My hope is that more and more people see the hypocrisy of social pressure and curated opinions enforcing failed policies... and decide to just completely exit the world of social engineering that was laid bare in the Asch conformity and Milgram experiments.

Citizen residents need to remember who works for whom, and that we hold the hammer. Bully tactics have been tolerated as SOP for way too long, with partisan politics superceding common sense on all sides, resulting in division and segregation. Checks and balances are built into our Republic, and State Constitutions, but they require an impetus, e.g., the People, to actuate them. Many have become misinformed as to corrections being viewed as violence; which could not be more erroneous from what the United States of America's Constitution clearly states, as written, not as interpreted by those who have nefarious agendas. The National Association of Counties (NACo), of which Comm. Ozias is on the Board of Directors, has requested that all counties respond with a provided template letter. It is 5 pages of detailed agreement and disagreement. This letter is in the BoCC's Regular Meeting Agenda packet for anyone to review.
At times, it feels as though I am speaking to a wall rather than Clallam County Commissioners, who pledged to turn “residents’ expressed priorities into action through effective communication and provide comprehensive and exemplary public service levels in a prompt responsive manner”. Those currently serving in the capacities as "public servants" are the first or second generation, unknowingly indoctrinated, due to their public educations, of which alt-realities are the basis. The regime has built a solid foundation of followers, who are tuned into their phones and cameras, willing, ready, and able to report for duty; many younger, and older people as-well, are "influencers", entirely unaware, being unpaid supporters knowing nothing else but TDS and unjustified anger. The unemployed, even drug addicts and mentally compromised, are targeted as storm troopers, to carry out the dirty work, the same tacics deployed in 1930s Germany. Anyone outside the agenda is labled a conspiracy theorist, racist, Nazi, or some other out-of-context term du jour. Our State leaders are complicit, being installed in succession, with next generation candidates being groomed from birth through adulthood. I'll continue trying, but there's a real unwillingness on the part of nearly every authority figure to see or listen. My own worldview has changed dramatically because of this truly horrendous breach of trust at so many levels, but I am more convinced than ever that ordinary people who are committed to doing right by one another are the ones who will actually bring change.

I do understand (with compassion) how big and difficult of an issue this is to grapple with, but if we don't, the alternative is to turn a blind eye to suffering, ensure more tragedies, and lurch along with unwise leaders who refuse to pursue accountability.
As we see in other areas connected to public health and safety, the pattern repeats. Positive change begins with humble listening, valuing one another, and dropping party politics.

You are so right. The so called leaders only want to deflect and stick with their agendas and not listen to reasonable factual opposition. I have never heard a commissioner or any elected in this county publicly admit to being wrong, or even saying a public commenter had a good idea. The pivot they claim to be making on harm reduction is due to loss of grant funding not a pivot on philosophy.

What you are describing is essentially the same experience so many others cite when trying to reach their elected officials.
What we're missing is something that other progressive groups do so well. There's no organization. While I have an inherent avoidance for people who group together because I truly don't agree with everything anyone else says or thinks, a core set of values could bring us together and I don't think that this is in Jake's or Jeff's wheelhouse.
We're flailing individually, occasional mosquito bites easily brushed off. Individually we lose efficiency to be gained by assembling around the core values. By assembling the power is not linear rather exponential. Something like the Calico Cat? I don't know.
You're right about hyper-organized and well-funded political movements' ability to drown out independent voices. But I think our best shot is on the local level.
And I also agree that Independents value independence-- by nature, we're not aligned with everything someone else things (and aren't seeking that kind of alignment).
Part of the real value of what Jeff and Jake are doing lies in the creation of opportunities for critical thinkers to ask questions together, even if we don't have all the same questions, concerns, or opinions.
That's what actual governance, communities, and relationships should look like: unique individuals who value each other across differences and find ways to flourish together.

Citizen residents need to remember who works for whom, and that we hold the hammer. Bully tactics have been tolerated as SOP for way too long, with partisan politics superceding common sense on all sides, resulting in division and segregation. Checks and balances are built into our Republic, and State Constitutions, but they require an impetus, e.g., the People, to actuate them. Many have become misinformed as to corrections being viewed as violence; which could not be more erroneous from what the United States of America's Constitution clearly states, as written, not as interpreted by those who have nefarious agendas. The previous comment shoud have far more in agreement, which indicates the cause and effect of our current situation in government across the board.
It's a simple philosophy, isn't it? Take responsibility for your own actions and your own life. That's what I was taught growing up in a lower middle class family. As the saying goes, you cannot help someone who doesn't want to help themselves. Giving people the means to ingest illegal drugs - which you'd theoretically be arrested for selling and/or distributing, right? - thinking this will help them get clean and sober is an Alice in Wonderland fantasy, where black is white and up is down. The governmental and NGO machines, whose good paying jobs depend on the continuance of such policies, should be striving to put themselves out of a job, instead of maintaining a failed status quo that perpetuates their taxpayer-funded gigs. The only way out of this cycle is to change county leadership.
The Office of Management and Budget (OMB) has sent a notice to our elected officials stating that changes to receiving grants will include more accountability. The National Association of Counties (NACo), of which Comm. Ozias is on the Board of Directors, has requested that all counties respond with a provided template letter. It is 5 pages of detailed agreement and disagreement. This letter is in the BoCC's Regular Meeting Agenda packet for anyone to review.

Two and a half years
At times, it feels as though I am speaking to a wall rather than Clallam County Commissioners, who pledged to turn “residents’ expressed priorities into action through effective communication and provide comprehensive and exemplary public service levels in a prompt responsive manner”. Then, I realized their socialist agenda will not win out, because they do not have the intestinal fortitude to fight for it, or maybe not even a real belief in the ideology itself. So I will continue to beat my head against the wall with the knowledge that they cannot withstand the constant bombardment of common sense that we can batter them with. They will not rush to hold the banner as we will, even to our own pain. The freedom to govern ourselves is worth fighting for, and freedom is not free.
Stop defending mistakes and start correcting them.

The general public concurred that fear and uncertainty are two strong influences on mental health, and it's decline, causing people to "lean on the bottle", syringe, bong; whatever means provides an escape from reality or strife. It stands to reason that more blue states approve of legalizing cannnabis in various forms, with some even proposing that weed be sold in grocery stores. Mis/disinformation is a powerful tool in dividing the masses; aso influencing younger undeveloped minds which become mini-me to accomplish further division and chaos. Those currently serving in the capacities as "public servants" are the first or second generation, unknowingly indoctrinated, due to their public educations, of which alt-realities are the basis. The regime has built a solid foundation of followers, who are tuned into their phones and cameras, willing, ready, and able to report for duty; many younger, and older people as-well, are "influencers", entirely unaware, being unpaid supporters knowing nothing else but TDS and unjustified anger. The unemployed, even drug addicts and mentally compromised, are targeted as storm troopers, to carry out the dirty work, the same tacics deployed in 1930s Germany. Anyone outside the agenda is labled a conspiracy theorist, racist, Nazi, or some other out-of-context term du jour. Our State leaders are complicit, being installed in succession, with next generation candidates being groomed from birth through adulthood. Jake Seegers has a full plate when he becomes a County Commissioner, and will need all hands on deck to support him, before, and after his election (not installation). Without the People, our Republic is nothing more than the Kindom we sent packing 250 years ago, yesterday.

Jake, thank you for putting your name on this. That is its own kind of collateral, the same kind our founders pledged on the last line of the Declaration of Independence. We should all read the entire document and truly ask ourselves: "Could I be a signer today?"
What you are describing is old. As MK said: "gas lighting." When outcomes fail, change the language instead of the policy. Rename. Re-message. Re-brand. And vilify reasonableness. Label residents who see the encampments and the overdose numbers as "misinformed." Same old pattern we've seen for years: leaders managing people instead of answering to them, which is not the foundation of our Republic was built on, which we celebrated yesterday.
We do not beat that pattern with better messaging of our own. We beat it the way it got beaten 250 years ago: a people who relied on God rather than greater force, and who pledged their lives, fortunes, and sacred honor to back it up. It will take exactly that here. Not a special twist or slogan. The resolve of every last person in this county.
Most of the leaders who break the backs of our families and the lives of even the people they push to "save" from themselves, don't even realize they are a cog in something bigger, more grotesque, working against life itself, without ever meaning to. Yes, some are pathological, most are not. They go along to get along because it's more important for them to belong to their tribe. They are afraid to lose their friends and their status.
Those of us who have already done that losing, we have become wide-eyed in the face of this darkness. But we all need the reminder to not look at the darkness. Focus on those sparks of light. That's what General George Washington would have done. Expect a miracle in your campaign every day and focus on it. Thank the Lord for it.
For example: Just the fact that they must rebrand their nonsense is a spark of light.

Long ago the corporate governmental system in the US started to dominate by deceit and lies, rather than to speak the truth honestly and working with the American people as they were lawfully supposed to do~! There has just been too much money and power in criminally perverting our government and constantly refusing us our freedom and rights, however many of us can now see that evil dynamic destroying itself as good folks are waking up to their underhanded games. For instance, we don't hear nearly as much about this disgusting "Progressive" nonsense, because like SO many other intentional spins of language, many now understand that these sick people are NOT Progressive, they are actually "Regressive" and very intentionally hiding their destructive Intentions behind "feel good" lies~! The Patriot Act, two weeks to flatten the curve, and the now infamous "safe and effective" BS have ALL been the same technique of intentional deceptions by planned "wordcraft"~!
