The gist of Boldt was to allow tribes to co-manage traditional tribal habitat for salmon and aqua culture. Then the tribe went out and got federal grants that made them the "lead' on all things salmon recovery aqua culture. This not only violated the gist of "Boldt" but it allowed the tribe, who was also given priority by the County ,Port Angeles and Sequim, to circumvent "Bolt" altogether.

With that authority, the tribe has helped waste millions in federal and state funding on salmon recovery that never had a chance to restore traditional native salmon stocks. All they have accomplished is to barely maintain a dog fish (chum) population. The reason is simple. They invested in steep grade projects which were nothing more than bob sled runs with a six flags log ride look, with logs scattered all over. This created the property taking they have longed for.

JKT is not a steward of the land. They are a bitter tribe that has spent the last 14 years violating the terms of the Point No Point Treaty of 1855, by looking through its retribution lens on all policy development. All they had to do is kick down to the Democratic party, which is from top to bottom a socialist/communist government bent on destroying America. Its a scandal as big if not bigger as the Minnesota day care fraud.

Absolutely right on all counts. I was just saying that to my friend the other day that when they start investigating here it’s gonna be way bigger than Minnesota and it’s a crying shame!

Dog fish is considered "dog food." Chum spend almost all their time in the sea. Funny how their populations spend most there time in the ocean and not the river. This abundant chum population means the JKT has failed to maintain silver and king conditions. Which according to their own science deployed at Jimmycomelately needs slower moving deeper water to both spawn and avoid predation. That slower deeper water in one main channel that never re-channels is not a threat to land, and was chosen for science (spawning) and property protection. JFT and LEKT obviously have abandoned that science in favor of steep fast moving water in shallow debts because of re-channeling and tributaries. Hence the chum (dog fish) population. These numbers support malfeasance as a "steward." To demand science and property protection for themselves while jumping to the other foot to get "land back" the tribes are derelict of their responsibility under "Boldt."

In short, the results speak for themselves. JKT can only maintain ocean saltwater salmon. They suck at river management. If they did not they would have a silver and king population instead of having them on the "threatened list."

JKT and LEKT need to be fired from salmon and aqua culture management not given more rope and power.

Notice how the tribes jump from one foot to the other and then pull out the book of excuses when it comes to king and silver results. This year when they jumped to the 6-PPDQ foot as cause for low silver and king population, the legislature (a Democrat Lisa Wellman) called them out on the lack of success. The response was "there is no silver bullet." If 6-PPDQ was a real thing the chum population would be lower than king and silver populations, because they spend more time in the sea where a million tires where put down to "create habitat." Think about it. tires in the Puget sound vs. tire material runoff...through stormwater projects worth millions that advertised the removal of said tire materials and millions in stormwater payroll to clean streets and roads. (Each major city in Pugetropolis has a stormwater division)

The list is longer than Wilt Chamberlain's arm.

I can't believe they even went there. Then again they don't expect someone with 15 progressively harder levels of flubber and magic bean detection to call bullshit...

Its all a lie. They lie to get money. The Democrats lie to get tribal money.

The county commissioners did not reply to yesterday's email asking if their proclamation about the ongoing historical injustices brought on by colonization is unifying or divisive. Here is today's email for the commissioners:

Dear Commissioners,

I am writing to respectfully urge you to take a clear and timely stand on behalf of Clallam County residents by sending a formal letter to Representative Emily Randall and Senator Maria Cantwell asking them to keep the Dungeness and Protection Island National Wildlife Refuges in federal public trust.

As you know, these refuges—long managed for conservation and public access, and now under a relatively recent co-management agreement with the Jamestown S’Klallam Tribe —are treasured public assets that generations of local families have used, enjoyed, and helped fund through their tax dollars. They are not surplus property, nor are they available for transfer; they belong to the public, and their value lies in remaining accessible, protected, and accountable to all. County residents have a deep and enduring connection to these lands, and many are increasingly concerned about the trajectory from co-management toward potential transfer of ownership.

A letter from the Board affirming that these refuges should remain in public hands—protected for future generations—would send a strong and appropriate message that Clallam County stands for preserving public lands for the public good.

Straight up BS. Who in their right mind considers this fair and equitable treatment ?

Oh right Jamestown llc. Their only concern is how much money they can make, and how much tax free land they can grab. “Their” tax free land is a scam and needs to be reversed. Greed and materialism don’t sit well with the perception of native peoples.

Did someone else steal not only their land, but their very identity ? If you’re going to steal a people’s identity, you could at least have to courage to walk the walk.

You pretend to, but don’t ! You’re nothing but grifters, every last one of you.

Thanks for keeping the public engaged. I don’t always agree with the lefty loosy, right tighty attitudes, but to each their own xoxo.

Evrita Romero's avatar

Well, the thing is, JKT it is not the original tribe that was steward in this land. As I understand it and please correct me if I’m wrong., but they massar the other tribe and took over.

What they failed to realize is sooner or later, they’re gonna grab up as much land as they can, and there’s gonna be no taxes and guess what you’re literally taxing people out of their homes sooner or later mathematical certainly is everything is going to implode if we don’t do something about it now!

Well, there’s an organization called indivisible Sequim. I think we need to start our own movement and call it

Patriots For Clallam County!

John Angelo's avatar

As long as we’re not defining patriots as belonging to one specific party, I’m good with that.

John Worthington's avatar

The list of independents are growing everyday.

Evrita Romero's avatar

Yes, I agree with you. I’m just against the injustice, regardless of what side of the fence you’re on as far as politically.. we need to stamp out in justice and graft and greed once and for all!

Once this goes into Tribal Trust Land. The public will have no say so on its use or will it be able to access information on what the tribes' plans are for this in the future. No Taxes will be paid into any community coffers. This decision is in who's best interest?

Kaiser, it gets worse than that. The Tribes are going after the entire "land back" of the peninsula. Including parts of Jefferson County.

CHECKER-BOARDING AND LAND CONSOLIDATION

As land is acquired by the Tribes, it can create what is known as “Checker-Boarding” of native land side by side to private lands. It is being fought in the courts, but, one such sovereign prerogative is the power of eminent domain, or condemnation, by which Native American and Alaska Native tribes may take private property without owners' consent provided that just compensation is paid.

LAND CONSOLIDATION: is a planned readjustment and rearrangement of fragmented land parcels (checker-boarding ) and their ownership. It is usually applied to form larger and more rational land holdings. Land consolidation can be used to improve rural infrastructure and to implement developmental and environmental policies (improving environmental sustainability and agriculture) See site below on Land Consolidations maps for Clallam County Pages 5-15

https://www.epa.gov/system/files/documents/2021-10/wqs-tribal-tas-jst-application-exhibit-e.pdf

PAGES 5-15

Checker-boarding also occurred with Native American land grants, where native land was intermingled with non-native land. Many Native American tribes opposed checker-boarding, because it broke up traditionally communal native settlements into many individual plots and allowed non-natives to claim land within those settlements.

TRIBAL LAND AND RESERVATION EXPANSION This can get very complex. I can’t understand all the types of tribal lands and their powers, but I can understand I’m very worried.

The complex history between Tribes and the United States is reflected in the multiple types of tribal lands. TRUST LANDS are lands or interests in land that are HELD IN TRUST BY THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT (within DOI, the Bureau of Indian Affairs [BIA] holds title to the land) for the benefit of a Tribe or tribal citizen.

Lands held in trust status by the federal government can be proclaimed as a new reservation or an addition to an existing reservation through a “reservation proclamation” https://www.bia.gov/bia/ots/fee-to-trust

In the case of RESTRICTED FEE LANDS, the Tribe holds title to the land, but the land generally may not be alienated or encumbered without federal approval. This restriction on alienation attaches to certain tribal lands by law. Tribes or individual tribal citizens also may own FEE LANDS, meaning they hold title to the land and the land is under their control (private property). Finally, allotments or ALLOTTED LAND were created by the General Allotment Act of 1887 and include trust or restricted fee parcels of land held by individual tribal citizens.

Each type of tribal land offers different advantages and disadvantages to a Tribe or tribal citizen. For example, putting land into trust may help restore a historic tribal land base and provide connections to cultural and natural resources. Further, putting land into trust may provide economic benefits. For example, there is a legal presumption against state taxation in Indian country. In addition, trust lands enable Tribes to take advantage of certain tax credits and tax-exempt financing. Finally, certain federal programs and services may be available only on reservations or trust lands.

Tribe finances Commissioners' campaigns; Commissioners reward Tribe with lucrative deals. This is a classic "I'll scratch your back if you scratch mine".

These lands are OUR lands, and should NOT be transferred to any other interest, sovereign or otherwise.

Does this really surprise anyone? Did you not think that a co-management agreement was not the camel getting its nose under the tent flap? Seems to me, JKT is proving itself to be like Pac-Man, gobbling up public resources and properties as fast as they can, using a system dominated by leftist politicians they help put in place to make it so and a brainwashed populace that, for some reason, thinks the tribe(s) have been taken advantage of by greedy non-natives, and thus, must be given special treatment and privileges. The "Land Back" movement is very real and happening all across the country as well as Canada. Once public lands are transferred and gone, they are gone for "time immemorial." It is imperative that everyone who visits this site regularly takes a moment to write a brief note opposing this grift.
