The commissioners did not reply to yesterday's question about answering letters from the BIA and whether they'll commit to answering future letters. Here is today's email:

Commissioners,

The Safeway directly across from your offices—literally in the shadow of our courthouse, the county’s symbol of law and justice—has now installed anti-theft gates that alarm and lock if customers attempt to exit without paying.

After years of your leadership—11, 10, and 3 years—how do you explain the fact that such visible, costly anti-theft measures are now necessary steps away from the seat of county government, and what specific actions have you taken (or failed to take) that led to this outcome?

Jennifer's avatar

Jeff, will the anti-theft gates keep them from peeing on the pumpkins? I worry about that Persistent Pesky Public Pumpkin Peeing Problem...just saying ; )

Jeff Tozzer's avatar

Pardon my pessimism, I’m personally predicting potential puddles persist.

Jennifer's avatar

Priceless ; )

Denise Lapio's avatar

You are a gem, Jennifer.

Steve O.'s avatar

Denise Lapio I believe that Jennifer's sense of humor exists upon an advanced level. Often it contains hidden innuendos and insults which are both deceiving and entertaining.

Jennifer's avatar

Thank you Denise, I do joke at times to relieve my stress. Jeff has been reporting the ever rising crime in Clallam County for years now. We have reached the event horizon. We have observer facts, but the signals are not received, if that makes sense.

In astrophysics, an event horizon is a boundary in spacetime beyond which no signal can ever reach a given observer.

Steve O.'s avatar

Jennifer, a long time ago I became depressed when I learned that the beautiful stars we watch at night died millions of years ago. Why is the travel of sight inferior to sound?

Steve O.'s avatar

Jennifer I understand that the subject of public urination amuses you but urine has a very toxic effect upon metal locks. Eventually the substance corrodes the metal and the result is free cigarettes and booze.

Steve O.'s avatar

If the scent of urine in your neighborhood becomes stronger the reason is because a homeless encampment is marking its territory.

Jennifer's avatar

Reason number 4 to always have a full bladder.

Jennifer's avatar

Steve O, seems urine has many functions, just like duck tape. In Minn when temps got down to 30 and 40 below, it froze the car locks. If you were stuck in a parking lot, it was not unusual to ask (obviously) a man, to pee on your lock to unfreeze it. Ah, those were the days ; )

Kristin's avatar

Oh no way they will even touch this letter :D

Not that they respond to the others but this one ..... accountable for their own backyard ;)

If you claim to be great "stewards" of the land and ecosystem, why import a possibly invasive species rather than nurture the native species? Profit over stewardship? Stewardship, the careful and responsible management of something entrusted to one's care, such as natural resources, or finances.

https://naturalhistory.si.edu/education/teaching-resources/life-science/invasive-species

Teri Vanzant's avatar

That's a little like asking why you'd give a confused boy estrogen instead of simply giving him a booster shot of testosterone. There is ALWAYS profit in going against nature and being seen as a savior. Please see Dr. Fauci and the lovely Dr. Berry as shining examples.

Denise Lapio's avatar

Dr. Fauci needs to be arrested and tried in every country on Earth. Let him spend the rest of his life facing the consequences of his tyrannical actions.

Jennifer's avatar

Denise, I'll go one step further, he needs to be shot for CRIMES AGAINST HUMANITY: certain crimes committed as part of a large-scale attack against civilians...people are going to continue to suffer for many many many years. The long term effects are just coming to light.

Steve O.'s avatar

I don't understand of the purpose of lab in China.

Steve O.'s avatar

Please Denise and Jennifer don't indulge in false hopes but I believe that none of those events will occur yet the good news is that I am constantly wrong.

Steve O.'s avatar

That is the reason I voted in the last election.

Susan C Bonallo's avatar

I wrote to the head of Public Health with my concerns that Dr Allison Berry has no skills for a public health officer. There are doctors that put their educational focus in public health.

She isn’t one of them.

Everyone loses when unqualified people are in positions they should not be. Just look at our commissioners. What is the last major thing they did to benefit this county on behalf of the citizens ? Not the tribe, the rest of us. I’m not being a jerk, I’m really questioning their actions for the county. Please answer if you have knowledge of positive actions. Roundabouts and the fish barrier removals dont count, they are everywhere!

Teresa's avatar

I know-

Why are they “Importing” non-native species if the intent is to *restore?

When I moved here in 2008, there was a “Mountain Goat” attack in the Olympic National

Forest, the man Died.

The Goats are NOT native to this land.

They were brought here in the 1920’s. (as the story would go)

What What??

MK's avatar

Just add the words, "Since time immemorial" and the head-nodders won't flinch.

Susan C Bonallo's avatar

Thank you, a week without “time immemorial “ is like every other crappy week in the Northwest weather and political scene.

If I don’t get a response from the head of Public Health I’m going to do something! I don’t know what, but maybe protest with a sign ( with no vulgar language on it) What were those people thinking carrying rude signs? Don’t they have kids, morals, civility? So inappropriate. They embarrassed me for the entire county. Makes this a great destination for tourists.

Someone Someone's avatar

Why is the Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe silent on all the homeless/drug addict land poisoning that is happening in PA?

Teri Vanzant's avatar

I'm going to guess that it'll be easier for the 'people in charge' to sell off PA piece by piece if it's already an established dump site. Who's going to throw down to save an overgrown garbage heap? Besides, you don't get grants for having a loving, thriving, scenic tourist destination...just saying.

Jennifer's avatar

SomeSome, The Tribes are distinctly divided into three separate bands - The Jamestown. S'Klallam Tribe, the Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe and the PORT GAMBLE S’KLALLAM TRIBE. Each one is owned as their own Reservations. Each one is given funds as a separate sovereign nation. There is a scramble to get a percentage of the funds ALLOTTED by Federal Funds under the treaty acts. "He who can write the best reason to get the best percentage of those funds win" ....so, so complicated. But, I can tell you, these Tribes do have active financial fights and resentments. Just drive through the Lower Elwha Klallam Reservation, they don't put up $500,000 dollars worth of Christmas lights. Nor scream of wealth like the Blyn campus does.

They are not united in one cause for all. Each Tribe has and does fight one another for funding, timber and land management. So far, I don't believe the Elwha Klallam Tribe has the power, money or organized skills the Jamestown Tribe has. IMO, it's a greed fight. Their is inner fighting we don't know about.

Steve O.'s avatar

Is the tribe selling young squaws in exchange for profit opportunities?

Susie Blake's avatar

trying to create willing sellers

Susan C Bonallo's avatar

But somehow it will become our fight as land transfer becomes more serious. It is possible. In La Connor , Wa at Shelter Bay, you own your house but not the land. That is leased from the tribe and you pay annual fees for the right. Shocking as it might be, fees keep going up! The maps we see of our local tribes land “entitlement” should motivate everyone into action. I don’t know what action, I’m a letter writer. But if you plan on gifting your property to the next generation or selling it, let’s hope this “Land Theft by ethnicity “ doesn’t occur. Who else would get away with that?

Someone Someone's avatar

The Constitution protects personal land from being taken that way. And in Washington, the use of eminent domain is very difficult (and unpopular).

Susan C Bonallo's avatar

That’s good. However I have read that the salt water in front of our place could be taken by the government if a necessity were to occur. Like searching for oil or hiding a Nuclear Submarine or a sovereign nation needing geoduck farming property?

If you didn’t read the article Jennifer pointed out “Event 201”, put it on your good to know list. It’s yet another reason that questioning our government has become such a time consuming endeavor.

PS Dr Berry graduated from J Hopkins , go figure?

Someone Someone's avatar

Because shoreline property rights probably don’t extend far (or at all) below the tidal marks.

It frustrates me that so many cannot see the connection between socialism, ( anti-ICE, harm reduction, free drug paraphernalia, free drugs, minority-ism, etc. ), and the presence of squalor and homelessness. Free everything for everybody and human blight are inseparable. I am old enough to remember a time when if kids stole something, their parents took them to the store to confess, apologize and pay. That kind of morality seems to be fading. The presence of illicit drugs was not even known to me until high school. It is the only change I can see that directly points to our decay in personal discipline. With illicit drug presence and it's negative impact only getting worse it is clear to me that our laws are inadequate to address it. Lethality or possibly life in prison is the sad, but only, answer I can see. When the risk of dealing illicit drugs is forfeiture of one's life the availability of those drugs will change. Given a choice between deaths in addicts or deaths in dealers, I choose the later.

ABeetlebaum's avatar

It is the weakening of our society that is a result of other countries (enemies all) trying their best to aid in our destruction. We were warned when weed was legalized. Then came COVID. Now fentanyl. What next? Brainwashing the people. That's been going on for 60+ years. Haves vs Havenots.

Diane Maikui's avatar

We live in a beautiful place, but what's beauty without peace. The elected officials of this county encourage certain types of people to come to Clallam County by their soft on crime policies and ignoring what's going on, but at what cost? What is their end goal? Last week someone was up Mt Pleasant breaking into mailboxes. OK, if they get caught will they go to prison? Absolutely not, our tax dollars will pay for their defense and the prosecutor will not prosecute (who by the way is running for reelection). The people, the hard working, taxpayers, people that get up and go to work everyday, are paying a steep price. Taxation without representation, taxes going towards social programs is getting out of hand. And, there's absolutely nothing we can do except VOTE THEM OUT, VOTE NO ON LEVY LIFTS, VOTE NO ON MORE TAXES. I don't care how they spin it, our taxes are not going towards the benefit of those who pay taxes. They are not making life better for the hard working taxpayers! It's utterly bullshit. But, the liberals in this county have a louder voice and are more seen. So many white far left liberals are moving in when common sense people move out. Clallam is dying 😭

Teresa's avatar

On another note:

When the Levies are being “pushed” by Susan Fisch & Dale Jarvis…

How can we vote them out if they run unopposed? Or if the opposition is even More lenient?

Teresa's avatar

We have to figure it out

Jennifer's avatar

Teresa, it's going to be a battle to out figure them. They act smug for a reason ; ) But, forces are building. Even the Democrats are starting to hate the Democrats.

Teresa's avatar

Oh you are correct about that Jennifer 👍🏼…

They have money & deviant Political power.

MK's avatar

"Defeat the MAGA agenda." Yep, national politics right here in Clallam County. No wonder our county is having so much difficulty.

The Shipley Center caters to these people?

I'm keeping my mind local. Vote for Jake.

Rita Lilita's avatar

Something to seriously consider when lookng for a place to relocate - don't pick a town that's the county seat. That's where the taxpayer funded government agencies that process "free" services are located. Those seeking assistance and free stuff will naturally flock there.

I now understand that the conveniences and services of 20 years ago are magnets for troublemakers and their associates today.

Our search for our forever home is now elsewhere. Towns with a high concentration of retired law enforcement are topping the list as are (at the suggestion of former Sheriff Bill Benedict) gated communities.

Eve So's avatar

That’s awful. We specifically targeted a county seat in the hopes that jobs and hospitals would be nearby. Unfortunately, we got all the stuff you mentioned as well.

ABeetlebaum's avatar

Yes. That is what we did. Plus, we believed our realtor's myths...

Susie Blake's avatar

That applies in the PNW but not necessarily everywhere. Affluent suburbs of North Dallas that were the desired place to live for the best schools and upscale shopping a few years ago are now taken over by a Muslim majority

Susan C Bonallo's avatar

Good information. I’m so luke cool on Clallam County right now. Our purchase 16 years ago to put on an addition is on hold. The last thing anyone needs is more problems and expenses than already exist with permits. I wonder how many new home builders are aware of the potential problems in this county?

Teri Vanzant's avatar

How exciting to see that the protesters contributed absolutely nothing to the argument about kings other than continuing to whine and moan about society's ills while doing zilch to assist. How about Indivisible Sequim get off their plastic covered couches and put down their soy lattes and go clean up a dump site? Why not take a course in how to assist someone who's overdosing and find resources for them to get help to get clean? Maybe plant some flowers or go to the local cemetery and clean grave sites or even...shock and horror....raise some funds to build small houses since you're so worried about society's marginalized communities? Further, if your idea of gaining attention is to write abysmal slogans on everything you see...start with making your feelings known via permanent face tattoos so that everyone can see, forever, just how important you are. Kids don't need to see your vulgarity on signs, ever.

ABeetlebaum's avatar

ooh, I really like that last one - facial tattoos.. LOL

Jeffrey Nicholas's avatar

There are quite a few people in my circle are leaving or who have left Clallam County. Most are people who have been here 10+ years or more but the change over the last decade have one by one eliminated many of the reasons they moved here.

Sad but everyday the one party rule in this county and state are turning into a “progressive dreamland”. Right until the dreamers run out of other peoples money and then those left will trash the place to desolation as all the free stuff goes away.

MK's avatar

There are more turnips to squeeze blood out of. Just ask them.

Jeffrey Nicholas's avatar

Yep until they run out of turnips.

You have to love the comment from one gal on Nextdoor who said, "maybe the guy just wanted a ride"

Im sorry! I dont know a single man who would approach a woman alone in a parking lot for any reason! ~signed the lady who was at BBD

Susie Blake's avatar

probably the same person who tried to argue that the human feces being cleaned up by PA farmer market vendors was just dog poo. I blocked her to save my brain

Susan C Bonallo's avatar

As if that makes it okay! Dog poop has hundreds more bacteria (maybe thousands ) than human waste. Thats why you get an evil eye at the beach. Clean up after your fuzzy friends, or grandma however it works for you.

Denise Lapio's avatar

You were wise to protect your safety, Lori. You said no and he should have backed off. Instead he persisted and made you feel unsafe. Smart!

Susan C Bonallo's avatar

If that isn’t a perfect comment from a Nextdoor participant nothing is. Maybe those girls were teasing Ted Bundy!

MK's avatar

Then maybe there's a gal should post her phone number at the Black Bear diner so the next time a customer isn't accosted in the parking lot.

Jennifer's avatar

Lori Jayne, thank you, maybe a Commissioner or two will read your words!

Mimi Smith-Dvorak's avatar

no guarantee that even if they read, that they comprehend.

Jennifer's avatar

Mimi how about that there Senator who heroically staved off an attack? Oh yeah, he's not running again. Outside of our area, the 'hero' story hasn't run as of this morning (or I can't find it) Seems weird. He has been branded HERO status in Clallam County for saving his neighbors life by literally throwing his body, as a shield, over his neighbor's body. A WASHINGTON SENATOR FOR GOD SAKES!

Susie Blake's avatar

Many in the neighborhood knew this suspect was dangerous and had been asking authorities for support. If the senator promoted his hero status it might shine light on the policies he supported and how they contributed to the current disaster.

Jennifer's avatar

Susie, I'm hoping for that too. I think there is more to it and Anthony with Olympic Herald is pretty much my go to news. He's good!

Susan C Bonallo's avatar

Are our police bound by some law yet to be VGCvvv written? Is it that they can’t arrest anyone?

I tallied the scores, you almost need to be a murderer (on a ring cc) to spend more than 19 hours at our “Gray Bar Retreat”.

Susan C Bonallo's avatar

I swear on my mothers life I don’t know where vGCvvv

that came from or what it means. It changed after I hit send. Must have. That’s not funny or even understandable.

“I did not have sex with that woman”! Whoops that’s Clinton’s cover up line. I don’t have one, but I wasn’t using a harm reduction kit. I was drinking ice coffee. Truly, come over and I’ll brew a bit up with Baileys Irish cream.

Susan C Bonallo's avatar

Not so fast, cookie. Did anyone see the take down for protection? Oh, you did! Well that’s just fine, another politician with a God Complex. Sorry Lord, they are false idols in their own heads.

Susan C Bonallo's avatar

Sounds harmless enough for one of them. Guess Jim Stoffers guy has the day off. Jim should stay home also, many reported fear by actions taking against him. Oh maybe just one. Anywho, does anybody really care!!

Denise Lapio's avatar

I bet the people carrying the vulgar signs at the protests are allowed on ND and FB. Paul Pickett can't even control his ugly name calling during a public meeting, which Susan Fisch allowed twice without rebuke. If a dedicated volunteer program can't keep up with the amount of trash strewn throughout our County, then something is very wrong. Festivals, fairs, and tourists are coming to vacation here now. What sign will greet them first: "Welcome to Our Beautiful Cities" or "We Stink and We Don't care."

Gayle's avatar

When Canadians get off of the ferry in PA they are greeted with anti Trump signs and shouting protesters. Once that walk thru that gauntlet they are greeted with trash and needles, drug addicts and homeless with mental disorders. And county wonders why our visitor count is down.

Teresa's avatar

I could not be a volunteer to clean up trash in Clallam County unless I was exempted during the “vaccination awareness years”.

Put that in your pipe and smoke it!

There are probably 1000 volunteers ready to serve their community, if the Governance would allow.

We can make way with “good intent” and common goals…

It is disturbing the amount of people that still support the very political group that is destroying their own county. These people seem to have a very hard time deciphering right from wrong just like some liberal elected officials.A county is only as good as the elected that run it.

Wow! Happy Easter. I look at the vulgar signs of these uneducated fools and get angry at them. They do not have a clue about life or decency in them. They do not want to believe there is another view than their own. How do people get along with such stupid people?

You do not! Go live someplace else where you can not affect the decent people in CC. I have no problem with dissenting views I only have a problem with the way they are expressing themselves to kids and people who believe differently. They are living centuries past when there were Kings. If they don’t want Kings then I do. King JAKE might have an answer for them.

Article 8, Section 7 of the Washington Constitution prohibits counties, cities, towns, and other municipal corporations from giving any money or property to or in aid of any individual, association, company, or corporation, except for the necessary support of the poor and infirm.

A separate but parallel provision, Article 8, Section 5, applies to the State of Washington itself, and courts interpret the two provisions similarly.

Has anyone brought this up re: the tribe?

PA City Council will hold a work session regarding public camping and encampments. This follows council presentations in the last week or two about why NGOs need more. When I see Councilwoman Amy Miller working hard to engage on Facebook with the public while acknowledging that she will be asking for something new, I suspect she has plans and I urge skepticism.

In its announcement, the city says:

“Over the last several weeks, City Council has heard from thirteen local organizations on the issues of camping and encampment. These presentations will culminate in a dedicated work session on Tuesday, April 7, from 4:30 to 6 p.m., to discuss possible solutions. While there won’t be an opportunity for public Q&A during this work session, residents are encouraged to attend to hear the discussion firsthand and stay engaged as we work to address these complex matters. Like all regularly scheduled City Council meetings, Tuesday’s regular meeting will include two opportunities for members of the public to offer comments.”

Note that they say “discuss possible solutions” and if you think that means enforcing an existing ordinance against public camping without asking for something big -- like a village of tiny houses that concentrates homeless drug use -- you’ve been had. Miller caused these problems by milking the city, county, state and federal governments for every penny and funneling it to NGOs. I have a hard time believing she has a solution that isn’t even worse.

I usually try to avoid going to public meetings because I spent too much of my adult life in them. But I’m thinking about going.

Eve So's avatar

Be sure to write a letter articulating your concerns! My understanding is that public comment is not necessary part of the official record, but letters ARE.
