The William Shore Memorial Pool Board did not answer yesterday's questions about oversight of the shower voucher program. Here is today's question sent to the Board of County Commissioners:
Dear Commissioners,
It has now been roughly nine months since the Board expressed interest in simply having a conversation with the Jamestown Tribe regarding taxation, tourism, and related concerns raised by the public. Yet despite repeated public discussion about the need for communication, no meaningful follow-up appears to have occurred.
The public has been told the Tribe is uncomfortable coming into the boardroom, that tribal government operates on its own “time scale,” and that relationship-building takes time. About six weeks ago, one commissioner even publicly suggested it would be appropriate to send a follow-up letter. To date, that still does not appear to have happened.
My question is this:
Why is it that when county government needs additional revenue, there is always urgency to raise taxes, increase fees, or ask voters for another levy — but when it comes to simply requesting a conversation with one of the county’s most economically influential entities, the Board cannot seem to send a follow-up letter?
From the public’s perspective, the Jamestown Tribe appears perfectly comfortable coming before the Board when seeking support, approvals, partnerships, or public cooperation. Their “time scale” seems to function quite efficiently when they want something from county government.
At what point does the Board stop waiting passively and begin actively representing the taxpayers and businesses who are asking for fairness, transparency, and equal treatment in the tourism marketplace?
Clallam county is a very low populous county and brings in a very large amount of tax revenue. The radical taxaholic liberals have been using this excessive revenue to initiate more job descriptions to hire more employees than needed and wasting millions on drug addict housing. This is how liberals build their voting support groups.Liberals do not like negative questions and some will not answer questions about their decisions regarding spending and some are to ashamed and spineless to answer emails. The community problems will only be properly addressed when liberal elected leaders are voted out of elected seats.Free luxury condos, free transit transportation, free public pool showers, free drug essentials, free camp sites where ever ect ect ect what could go wrong.Board commissioners say they need more tax $$$ to properly fund clallam co 'Properly'.When the mentally ill get's voted into office this is some of the issues to expect.
Perhaps people are starting to slowly wake up to the fact that JKT is a competitor, not a partner, with Clallam and Jefferson counties, and should be treated as such. They can, and do, hide behind the "sovereign nation" shield whenever it benefits them while simultaneously trumpeting how they are superior "stewards of the land" and how their version of their cultural history (except the part about the massacring of the Chimakum) should be front and center of promotional and educational programs, all the while diminishing the contributions and histories of other cultures. To think they will voluntarily contribute their "fair share" to mitigate the tax burden placed on non-tribal citizens and businesses is to live on Fantasy Island. Chairman Allen understands all too well how to play the political game, beginning with influencing many of the politicians that make key decisions affecting JKT.
Needs to be a different name, like “tarrifs” that the sovereign nation should be charged to remain in the game & be one nation under god. JST is riding this pony as far as it will take them. Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me. It is clear JST is not going to “pay their fair share”.
Ozias "may have contacted someone informally about the issue." Either he did or he didn't. Or was it another back door secret meeting he doesn't want to divulge to the whiners and complainers?
I try not to comment and keep an open mind but sometimes the hypocrisy is overwhelming. The “Sovereign nation” is an entity unto itself self so they are exempt from participating in the tax base that supposedly keeps the county running. The sovereign nation should have no claim to the tourism fund, nor need it for that matter. Meh!
Gay….Very good suggestion to keep them out of the game but the likelihood of any acknowledgement from this board is nonexistent. They don’t even answer letters submitted to them so taxpayers can pound sand as far as they are concerned. It is so obvious, from my involvement, they do not really care about public comment in any form from taxpayers…. yet they stand to attention & react very quickly when JST has their corporate hand out.
The tribes are either "sovereign" or not. The very fact that they get most of their funds and all of their competitive economic advantages from another nation means they are not sovereign at all. It just means they are a corporation that has figured out how to get around most of the rules other corporations have to follow.
Thank you for posting the letters to the PDN editor, Jeff. PA residents are suffering under the guise of harm reduction. Hard working, tax paying citizens who feel unsafe in a once safe town. They shouldn't have to fight so hard to regain their dignity and livelihoods.
You and Jake were quick to fix the signs snd notify the public. That's how gov't should work! You see a problem and you take immediate steps to solve it. Why do other gov'ts have such difficulty finding the time to correct basic grievances? Just like our Comms avoid the tax issue with the local Tribal corporations at any cost delaying even simple approaches to a solution. Which means we will always hear the double speak, the excuses, and the whining. This is why we over burdened tax payers always ask where's the partnership?
Wow free housing free showers free food free garbage collection and free needles sounds like a drug addicts paradise good thinking PA , But don’t worry it won’t make the problem worse
The Tribe up until now has used local electrical contractors on its consruvtion. The new Dental Clinic that just bid is an exception. They chose outside General who in turn negotiated with an Olympia EC after the job bid. Where does their local values to us taxpayers come to fruit? Local people support their Casino income more than visitors yet we get slapped in the face. It is a shame that they are not using local companies to further our economy. Just another construction job that could have been done locally gone. My tidbit of the day. Oh and my company is supplying the product out of Tacoma not here because the contractor chose it. Wake up Tribe!
I am livid and trying to process all the back slapping my ears were accosted by during the meeting. I warned commissioner French this meetings recording isn’t going to be taken well by your constituents. Please everyone at the very least listen to the meeting and let me know if I am hearing things correctly. Teresa you did well I couldn’t believe you sat through all of that in person!
The recording is not yet available. Before I was working full time again I was able to attend county meetings in person but now am primarily limited to city evening meetings. Don't let them gaslight you into thinking others aren't begging them to address the same issues through emails, calls and comments at meetings we can attend. You are not alone. Listening to todays BOCC comments on my lunch break was the highlight of my day and gave me some hope for the council meeting tonight.
I will have to digest that in small bites. I listened to a few parts and my thoughts are Berry is a shill for the pharmaceutical industry, and the BOCC are having way too much fun gaslighting the constituents.
The BOH has definitely become used to going unchecked. I understand the frustration. I'm available this weekend if you want to go protest, let me know and I can get a mutual friend to give you my #
Typically, the insurance companies won't pay the people who thought they were insuranced, making it impossible for them to rebuild. The people who can afford to rebuild are forced to jump through ridiculously expensive hoops that are designed to price people out of rebuilding. In many cases, the authorities won't issue the permits to rebuild because they say the risk of fires are too great.
Thanks John, that is the insurance process. What is the jurisdictional process? What entities are responsible to respond to the wildfires under the “land grab” entity if that makes sense?
Wildfire has now been used to redistribute land in Maui, Pacific Palisades, Malibu, and soon to be Semi Valley. I've been saying that Sequim is on this list of high value areas that are a target for land redistribution. The Department of Ecology has been claiming drought in WA state for 4 consecutive years. In fact they are now using drought as a pretext to deter people from buying property in Clallam County. This will be the excuse used when a fire somehow starts and burns out all the property south of highway 101 on the Dungeness peninsula. A quick, easy, no questions asked way to redistribute huge portions of land at below market value to tribes and investors.
Dont forget Paradise California. Wind fed forest fires that burn the houses and businesses but not the trees. When they burned Maui, they turned off the water, and blocked the evacuation to maximize the casualties of locals with ancestral rights to the land. GO SPORTS TEAM!
I know Paradise well. It was the warm up, the practice run. The real target is the high rent districts like Maui and Pacific Palisades. And the Olympic Peninsula I fear.
Its the same they that fly over our heads everyday dumping toxic particulates that slowly spread into an unnatural haze that dims the sun. All you have to do is look up
The entire world of sovereign peoples within the confines of the USA, along with a Federal agency to represent them is not just antiquated; it is obsolete. The people for whom this bureaucracy was created no longer live. The progeny of those people own and operate casinos, fuel businesses, sell alcohol, tobacco and cannabis as well as use cell phones, computers, munitions, powered vessels etc.. Two different worlds, two different times and two different peoples. Today's indigenous progeny are USA citizens like all other citizens, but they are also sovereign. Which ever status best serves in any given circumstance determines whether they are USA citizens or sovereign.. The inequity of that in a country based upon equality is painfully obvious, as our valued author points out. OK for me, but not for thee.
And here I only thought that only Suggs makes mind-numbing statements.
Come on Mike, quit making excuses. The JST Corporation and Clallam County unelected lead Commissioner Ron Allen are Johnny on the Spot when there's something they want, but we're to believe that their delay is because they operate on a different time scale? I'll grant you that most N.A.s I've known and worked with has this tendency, but this isn't about the people, it's a Corporation.

Excellent letter and to the point that deserves a reply from county elected commissioners. County taxpayers want and need answers.

I am at the Sequim planning commission. They should be taking showers at the port. Let them deal with Popeye not Buffy and Jody without Mr. French..

Hello - RANT warning ⚠️
I am furious.
Out of 70,000 people, 3 citizens attended the Board of Health meeting.
3 people made public comment.
The Census would feed us to the wolves.🤡
Why should I keep fighting?
Everyone should be attending these meetings.
We are being led into the bottomless pit by the Health board & Jamestown rules the school.
Simply Posting thoughts aren’t doing a darn thing.
Thank you for your comment today Dr. Sarah.👋🏼
You make a difference!
I won’t be going back unless countless others start attending.
Find a way, stop with excuses.
We are doomed under this current leadership.
Start showing up or move.
Welcome to Jamestown.
I've got a big drive from Oregon tomorrow, I'll queue it up.
We need the BIG VOICES to show up!
French, again telling me what it is i am talking about!
i am livid as well!
The recording is not yet posted. BOH is slow to post the recordings. At least BOCC makes theirs immediately available.

Wildfire my ass! They have been using fires to do land grabs for years.
What happens when wildfires happen on the lands that were grabbed? Meaning what is the juridical process?
Typically, the insurance companies won't pay the people who thought they were insuranced, making it impossible for them to rebuild. Thats my fear as well. Im so sick of people referring to the chemfog as smoke every summer. They have normalized it to the general public.
Another conspiracy makes the rounds.
I wish this conspiracy was just a theory, but unfortunately the science based research and independent reporting has proven it to be terrifyingly true
Who are “ they”?

Would that be the same “ they” that created miles and miles of plastic waste in our oceans? In which case you’d need to look down.

Some people want to abolish ICE the Police why not BIA the UN and Socialism.
There's no more need for the BIA given the state hands over fists full of dollars via the Washington State Department of Commerce.
