I didn’t have a 9/11 awakening, but rather a ‘Jimothy’ moment when I first stumbled onto CCWD. I’m cheap and don’t like to pay for news, so I go on line looking for news. I started following Jeff’s articles at the beginning of his Towne Rd series. As I followed the articles it was like seeing the first picture of Jimothy running across the road, it didn’t look right.
Towne Road? Where was it? Why did it matter? But reading on it clearly pointed to something out of whack that deserved a second glance. The second glance was my awakening that some people running Clallam County can be covert. Their motives needed scrutiny, so CCWD gave me, and still is giving scrutiny. Thank you Jeff for the tremendous amount of work you have done for Clallam County and explaining why 'Jimothy' is out of whack!
Jeff, I didn’t realize that your first post was actually on Sept 11. Nor did I realize it was your first letter to the Commissioners (to be ignored). Nor did I realize that you had so few subscribers but now over 4,000 in a short 3 years. The one lone reply you had with your 2023 article has grown to become many voices. I am urging you to reopen the north end of Towne Road to vehicle traffic so it can once again connect Dungeness to Sequim, as it has for over 80 years. The commissioners’ messaging has consistantly been that this vital link would reopen upon completion of the levee realignment.

All REAL Americans who were alive on 9/11/2001 share the same tragic experience, but I had no idea that you were that close to the situation. On that horrible day I was running a small Internet press release business, so I had the extraordinary ability to monitor the first media reports, which were very different than the later version of the so-called "news". I immediately knew that "we" (Americans) were definitely NOT being told the truth about that very sad 9/11, however I do appreciate your confirmation of the loss of planes and the folks on them because that helps to further clarify things. I know that wherever the evidence ultimately leads us, that was a terrible day when a great many Americans were jolted awake. I can't help but find it deeply disturbing that both of "your" unpleasant 9/11 experiences, were rooted in the corrupt governmental system in the US, however, regardless of the challenges that are ahead of us, there is hope when good folks come together to make positive changes~! I very much agree that our efforts today are not just for us but are also for the future generations who "we" (American Patriots) owe a duty to provide with the best possible opportunity of having a good & prosperous life~! What you were able to share with us today means that you trust us to be your friends and colleagues. Thank you for your courage and for giving back so much to your community. You and your strength, your compassion, your tenacity, and your ability to give more than you receive is a God given gift few of us have. Jeff your memories of the first 911, I’ll never forget that day. Many of my son in laws fellow fire fighters were there at the scene.
My children have gone to 911 memorial and it tears them up knowing friends that they lost.
I remember finding CCWD and have never looked back. I don’t care which political side you’re on, truth is truth, transparency is important, and we need accountability.

EXCELLENT, Jeff. One of your best blogs, striking at the heart of our problems: Trust. Before 9/11/01, we trusted that our flights would be safe, then we were reminded of the cold hatred that obsesses some people. Your 2nd 9/11 was a moment when the veil was removed from your, and subsequently our, eyes to awaken to the ugly reality of government corruption and politicians' lies.
Yes, that 2nd 9/11 "... where even well-intentioned leaders are met with suspicion. That is a real loss. It is also a reminder of what we let grow thin: the everyday trust that makes a place feel like home has been broken." Indeed! Sequim was our home. We vowed that it would be our last move. We got rid of our moving boxes. Then, as the harsh reality of Tribal/government collusion, lies, hostility, corruption, Homelessness money laundering, public danger, and never-ending taxes made us re-think our vows about moving. Yes, these miscreants changed what felt like home to feeling like it was a battleground. I am tired and old, and sick of having to fight my government, and even more sick of corruption and lies. As someone raised with integrity an extremely important attribute, it cuts doubly deep. It's not new, but the awakening to it in our own back yard was too much. We fled the sinking ship, too tired to fight on the front lines anymore. We moved to a place where the government truly listens to the people and does what they honestly think is right. It's refreshing and relaxing to be among like-minded people, not hostile adversaries. Our congressman holds bi-monthly telephone conferences where we can give him our inputs, he can answer our questions, and we can answer his. Isn't this how government is SUPPOSED TO work? With integrity and loyalty to their constituents? Then, I think of these petty thieves running Clallam county and am reminded that despite our Olympic Peninsula friends, the beautiful forest, mountain, and ocean vistas, the flora and fauna, mild weather and clean air, peace is worth the sacrifices. As a former digital designer, I lack finesse and want all or nothing. An all-out war against those ruining life in Clallam County, or full retreat. I am glad I am old and chose the latter, as the former would have surely gotten me in deep trouble.

Offhand, I can't think of anywhere else I would have read it, which speaks VOLUMES about the effectiveness of what you are doing, Jeff. YOU are the missing piece that everyone needs. Perhaps, Jed. But, Sequim was about 50/50 when we moved here in 2013, before it shifted markedly left. The county in Idaho where I am now is 80% Republicans, which I'd guess to be 75% conservatives, maybe less. But, it has a longer way to go to reach 50/50, and still longer to move to the left. I doubt I'll be alive if/when that happens. We may be the same age, given your moniker, so I doubt you will be either.
Jeff, a wonderful and heartfelt story you've shared. At its core, it tells us that the old adage made famous by President Reagan remains as true today as it was then: "Trust, but verify" - which is actually derived from an old Russian proverb. As we remember the horrific acts perpetrated on a free people on 9/11, the below-linked excellent, if long, article that traces the history of how 9/11 came to be, is well worth the read. To me it's just another reminder that, while we elect politicians at all levels of government we initially trust to do the right thing for their constituents and community, we must always verify that their actions are both selfless and geared toward the betterment of those communities -- and not themselves.
