The commissioners did not respond to yesterday's question asking what steps they are currently taking to protect children and families at the Shore Aquatic Center. Here is today's email:

Dear Commissioners,

Have any of you taken a recent walk along Tumwater Creek—not for a meeting, not for a report, but to see firsthand what your policies are producing on the ground?

Because what’s described—and what’s being experienced by people living there—raises serious concerns. Individuals openly acknowledge that addiction is not only present, but entrenched, with one stating plainly: “Everybody has to use out here.”

At the same time, the physical impacts are visible as well—abandoned camps spilling waste into the creek and surrounding public lands.

That’s not just a public health issue. It’s an ecological one.

This isn’t theoretical. It’s not a policy discussion in a conference room. It’s happening in real time, to real people, in conditions that don’t appear to be leading toward recovery or restoration—for individuals or for the environment.

I would strongly encourage each of you to listen to the recent interview with Jake Seegers, in which these realities are discussed candidly by someone living through them. It offers a perspective that is difficult to capture in reports or presentations, but critical for informed decision-making.

So I’ll ask directly:

Have you walked Tumwater Creek recently—and if so, do you believe what you saw reflects success?

Good morning Jeff, Jake and all of you Doggers,

Great interview!

Another expose of wasted funds. They can't stop if the funds that feed their friends in the behavior health system…Super scam system!

Your new song made me choke on my coffee.. SO GOOD 👍

Have a great day all and Vote Jake Seegers please!

Thanks, Glen!

Does an addicted gambler hang out at the casino if they want to stop gambling? MO! Then why does our local drud facilities condone drug use in facilities that are supposed to help them get clean. Our money is being spent to further their addiction. The common sense in our CC officials does not exist. They are addicted to power and are idiots. Where is my coffee this AM?

Jake Seegers's avatar

Good talking to you yesterday, Jed.

jedjennings50's avatar

Likewise. We have permission to put a big sign on Hwy 101 right by Kitty City!

Great exposure! Gave Jeff the info

Looks like the county's good intentions have had unintended consequences. If they do not step up and make the needed changes or at the very least admit that thier policies have not met the expected outcomes, then they need to go. People need to use their voices and vote accordingly.

"Harm reduction" on the surface, sounds noble. How can you disregard the suffering of addicts living in filth and pain? But those "in charge" are only looking to appear to care about these people while the REAL reason is to keep and justify their 6 figure salary. As long as there's a burgeoning homeless/addicted problem, they have a job. Cure the problem and they're out.

These bleeding heart idiots in charge are spending $500,000.00 (of scarce tax money) for each apartment for addicts, WITH NO REQUIREMENT THEY STOP USING DRUGS! That's like giving criminals guns and armour to keep them safe so they can rob again! I think even a 5 year old can tell you that's stupidity.

I never in a million years thought my hard earned taxes would be used to give addicts crack pipes, boofing kits WITH INSTRUCTIONS needles, apartments, food, free medical, free tents, free dental, clothes- everything they need to continue their destructive lifestyle. They dont have to work like the rest of us and these high paid officials ask the addict "would you like to live here, do you like the food, how can we make you more comfortable" etc. INSANITY! And its getting worse not better.

Insanity- doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different outcome.

( I still think someones making alot of money off this crisis...)

Is it just me, or has this recent expansion coincided with the MAT clinic which needs clients to make money?

If commissioners need to support the JST Corporation and their MAT clinic would it be outrageous to think that their other decisions that bolster the clientele for the MAT clinic wouldn't also be intentional acts of depradation on society as a whole?

Kathy's avatar

Per the podcast MAT gives dosages that keep them coming back, imagine that. Last I heard the encounter fee is over $1000 per visit with each patient allowed 5 visits per day (may be be up to six now?) though I think some of their funding was cut. They also now have a "remote psychiatric provider", why is that since they're opening a psych clinic? Will they keep both?

MK's avatar

Given a report that they're driving into Seattle to pick up clientele I don't know how they can't stay open importing problems into our community.

Kathy's avatar

MAT is driving to Seattle?

MK's avatar

Someone left a comment not too long ago that they saw the MAT van on a Washington State ferry and in a conversation with the driver learned that they were going into Seattle to live for clients.

Sarah Kincaid's avatar

They are a regional mat clinic and as such they cannot turn anyone away no matter where they live.

MK's avatar

Well, especially if they import people from Seattle?

Sarah Kincaid's avatar

If they ask them and they say yes, well!

CAS's avatar

Agreed, just follow the grant money and all the jobs with those funds. Most of those grant monies and programs, the majority funds salaries and benefits, very good benefits at that. There is intention no stop, they talk and talk, but actions speak louder and we all see. And with fentanyl being the drug of choice these days, it has been found that only about 3% of fentanyl addicts can recover as the sythentic opiod is so highly addictive, almost impossible to get off of. So let's just keep "treating" them while making money. Follow the money. This is not compassion.

Berry has built her Empire around crises and response methods that keep people sick

Things have certainly escalated since Berry took over. There is no denying this county is much worse off, the numbers are what the MAT wants you to believe because there is no real transparency when the tribe is running the show.

Ron's avatar

If you build it, they will come. It’s been proven over and over again. Some “leaders” either don’t care, are in denial or just want the money.

There are endless posts on Facebook from people who speak to the homeless addicts in various areas around our state where the underlying theme is that they have come to Washington State because of the social services and free enabling policies.

It's an interesting position the state takes. Attract people who just take so that taxpayer money can be siphoned off to special interests while pushing people out who are contributing taxpayers. Someone explain that.

Her observations don’t stop there. Jen challenges assumptions about services in Clallam County, calling it “the first place I’ve seen spoiled homeless people,” <--- One of the worst most powerful statements I have ever read.

There was an older male from Neah Bay who slowly rotted on the streets of PA over several years of enablement before passing. When I first moved here he was ambulatory and even appeared in a news piece about the conflict at "the bell" talking about why he should be allowed to loiter there. At the point where he landed in a wheelchair but still had all his limbs he would station himself in a high visibilty spot wrapped in a blanket in his wheelchair to panhandle. On a blustery day I approached him with clean blankets, handwarmer packs and high protein snacks to offer and ask if he was getting help. He cussed me out because I wouldn't give him cash or go buy him beer and threw my contributions on the ground as I left. I then watched him for a few more years stationed on the sidewalk around downtown with outreach providers bringing him meals that businesses later had to clean from their storefronts. Do-gooders would give him cash and he would send his street friend to buy beer. He would pass out and fall out of his chair and his friends would leave him there on the ground and sit in his wheelchair and drink the rest of the beer. City crews would clean up the urine, feces, and soaked blankets from in front of the pool after his weekends benders when he moved to the next spot but outreach and do-gooders kept contributing to the grusome scene. When he finally passed LSW shamelessly didn't miss the opportunity to grandstand and try to blame the situation on PA not providing free housing for all the addicts and drunks to slowly kill themselves indoors. Keep in mind this gentleman was banned from his own community due to his behavior and might still be alive if PA had not catered to his self demise. We are literally "spoiling" humans to death.

Sarah Kincaid's avatar

Virtue signaling does not make you virtuous!

MK's avatar

What an incredible story.

Susie Blake's avatar

He would lie down at the corner of Lincoln and First on Friday afternoon during tourist season, like get out of his chair and lie next to it on the sidewalk on purpose, and down a 6 pack while toursists literally threw money at him. When I called it in for welfare check and blocking sidewalk I would watch PAPD pull up, pour his beer on ground and talk with him a few seconds then leave. And within less than an hour he'd have more cash and send his pal for more beer, all on display for rush hour.

“you have to want to quit”

I wanted to quit several times.

No matter how bad Life got.. relapse, relapse.

A wise woman told me, “relapse doesn’t need to be a part of your story”.

empirical experience is key to connecting with people suffering.

thank you Jake, Stacey & Jen-

In the podcast Jake recites what Joe told him. Joe said it accurately. If he couldn't live the way he wants to and is held accountable for his actions that he would move.

The programs attract people who are not from here, yet for some reason those in control want more of them here. Why?

Geoff Fox's avatar

From reading your intro - a reason why Jake would be an excellent commissioner - he seeks out other opinions and listens. Undoubtedly would give direction to what the actions of the county should be in matters like this that gobble up tax and grant money but lack any accountability to us.

Linda Silvas's avatar

Hi Jeff, There is also a subject about substance abuse that is not talked about and that is the parents of these substance abusers and their children. This is something I'd like to talk with you about.

Jeff Tozzer's avatar

You're right. That's a huge component.

Eulogies can be special. Written three for drug addicts, all under 30, and virtually no one knew they were users.

Functional addicts. May be that’s what our goal could be in CC.

John Worthington's avatar

They know I have seen then give out corn on the cob to addicts without teeth all the time...and go around the corner and laugh.

jedjennings50's avatar

Don’t worry they will get free dental and have dentures because of cruel punishment and then ruin them in their dishwashers at PBH.

John Worthington's avatar

I hope they start cooking salmon from Valley and Tumwater creek in those dishwashers.

ABeetlebaum's avatar

No. Addicts need to become Former Addicts.

Susie Blake's avatar

herein lies so much of the problems we face, massive industries revolving around Addicts being Addicts

ABeetlebaum's avatar

yes. Why can't people see this? I do have my own opinions as to the why...

Susie Blake's avatar

paychecks and benefits are a powerful motivator

"peer support specialist" = entry level paid friend for the friendless but hey the paid time off is good and they look past your recent jail stints because they don't want you to look to closely at them either

Susan C Bonallo's avatar

That has to be true and disgusting. We can watch drug deals going on in the middle of the day, but arrest aren’t made. Who really pulls the puppet strings in this county?

Please don’t say the commissioners, I think the three of them couldn’t do a Full time job of an entry level clerk. They’d have to know the alphabet!

I agree with Jen, she has some real insight on how the county is pouring money like gas into a fire. There is no real rehab with those methods only a temporary bandaid.
