This week had multiple arrests in the Port Angeles area. Several of the individuals arrested reportedly had ties to Pierce County, Mason County, Cowlitz County, and even Florida. One arrest occurred in front of the County Health and Human Services building and within view of the courthouse.
Do you believe Clallam County's current harm-reduction policies are attracting individuals struggling with addiction from outside our county, and if not, what evidence do you rely upon to conclude that county-funded distribution of drug-use supplies and related services are not acting as a regional draw?
Many residents are increasingly concerned that Clallam County is becoming known as a destination where active drug use is accommodated rather than a place focused on treatment, recovery, and accountability. Given the number of out-of-county individuals appearing in recent law enforcement reports, do the commissioners track where clients accessing county-funded harm-reduction services originate, and has the county ever studied whether these programs influence migration into the area?
Speaking of leaving, a good friend and his new wife and young children are moving to Arkansas this summer. He has a great job, is involved civically with service organizations, grew up here. They're the kind of family you hate to see leave your community -- but they're tired of the economic environment that keeps nickel-and-dime taxing them to death, and simply don't want to raise their kids in the "new" PA. His father, a retired military veteran, is also moving out of state. These are the kind of people work hard, pay their taxes, never appear on a police scanner, don't ask anybody for anything, but when they've had enough, quietly move on, leaving a void in a community that's hard to replace.

Teresa’s comments at the Town Hall on Thursday really resonated with me. I avoid downtown Sequim like the plague on weekends now. I just have no interest in being caught up in that protest nonsense. I work full time and live in PA, so that means none of the restaurants and businesses in that area get the benefit of my $$$.
I ‘m curious if the local business associations, CoC, city council, etc would take note if we were to bring this to their attention? Someone is granting those permits and they need to know that they are directly responsible for the loss of dollars to the local businesses.
Great point. I've reached out to a few businesses asking if I can talk about the struggles they have doing commerce on protest weekends. But they are all very reluctant to speak to me. They are afraid of the backlash from Indivisible. Who can blame them?

After many months of reading Jake Seegers contributions to The Watchdog and having the occasional chat with him on various important subjects, I find him to be a reasonable, rational Individual who cares about the community here. In contrast, Mike French is very clearly either detached from the reality that our community has very clearly declined and become less safe over the past several years, or worse he is ignoring the obvious decline and only interested in supporting the failed policies and agenda that those in our local government management have inflicted upon us. I am also surprised to hear that Mike French is apparently running for reelection on a platform of "supposedly" improving the local economy~! REALLY??? As a dedicated Economist I would love to hear more about ANY competent plans to improve the local economy, especially in the business sector that is involved in actually producing something or serving a need that is not tied to government (taxpayer) funding~! Growing the government and/or funding government (taxpayer funded) programs is NOT improving the local economy in any material & substantial way, because by definition it just further drains the taxpayers' pockets and redistributes the money to jobs that have little effect upon the productive health of the local economy itself. In any case, I am surprised that Mike French "suddenly" cares about the local economy here in Clallam County, because he has been in office for years now and I have seen no improvement of the local economy at all! In fact, the local economy has very clearly declined, MANY businesses have now closed, and more are teetering on the brink of closure, all under Mike French's current term in office. Is this just another phony "Hope and Change" scam, where the clowns in the current government are laughing at our "Hope" as they have absolutely no plans to "Change" whatsoever~? Obviously, Mike French's history of failures to support any material economic health for our community are not solely his fault, but it does surprise me that he would be claiming any personal interest in our local economy with his abysmal record. I guess to the sleeping sheep such claims make good "sound bites" to deceive the low information voters who are as detached as Mike French apparently is, but my guess is that Jake Seegers would at least have more real successful business experience and acumen. Yes, one clear way that folks can see that Jake Seegers is without doubt gaining supporters, is by seeing all of his signs popping up all over the place! I feel safer in Sequim and Port Townsend then I do in Port Angeles. I've lived in this area my entire life, before I moved back to Sequim, I wouldn't even go to the 3rd street Safeway by myself, getting gas was nothing but anxiety and keeping my husband on the phone. I now carry self defense with me wherever I go because of whats happening in PA when I didn't before 2025. Our town was never any rainbows and gumdrops, but now trick or treating downtown feels like a gamble on safety, and taking the bus is the same way. I remember when you could at least walk downtown with a group and be safe, but now? You can't even do that anymore. This is the worst PA has ever been and I would rather move to Port Townsend than live in PA again.

Crazy Harry’s has a good start in building that business model and cliental. There is plenty of great restaurants in Sequim and PA that thrive because they offer a good value. Just days later, the PAPD and Olympic Peninsula Narcotics Enforcement Team (OPNET) announced the arrest of a suspected street-level drug dealer after conducting surveillance on that same vehicle in downtown Port Angeles. ----- All that work for what turned out to be nothing due to others. This week I received the NOLS 6 x 9 full color, two-sided post card advertising the Summer Reading Program. I am NOT against the Summer Reading Program but wonder if there would be a less expensive option for advertising?? Perhaps posters placed in the schools, daycare centers, the pool, YMCA, etc. I have no young children, neither do many of my friends & relatives. No one on my block has any young children, but I imagine all got the postcard. Isn't this postcard a waste of money & resources? Lincoln Street Safeway: I NEVER go there! It is NOT safe! A couple I know went there. The husband went into the store. The wife chose to stay in the car. IF the parking lot belongs to the Albertsons/Safeway Corporation, I would think they could do better judging by the prices on their groceries.
One more re: leaving Port Angeles. Two senior, single women I know had to leave Port Angeles. Not because they wanted to; they had to because they couldn't afford to live here any more. Imagine being in your 60s/70s & having to pull up stakes & start over. Finding a new residence, Dr., dentist, etc. It is very depressing. Two couples I also know moved to another state because they could no longer stand the local & state governments & high cost of living.
I know a few self sufficient, fit, attractive senior women who moved away even though it meant higher rent in a smaller space because the options for companionship for singles in later years are mostly Wheeler protest types or burnt out older addicts and they are not interested in being told what to think or being rescuers
Those benefits are the standard in all their jobs except the extra 5 days off for mangement. Even entry level gets the equivalent of 17% of their work days OFF with PAY. What private business can offer that for hourly jobs? From what I understand is pretty standard for county and city employees as well. So it's easy to see why govt employees mostly vote for the ruling party because they are attached to generous pay and benefits. County employees don't even have to pay for the "and family" health insurance benefits, worth thousands every year.
So yeah my first thought when I saw those postcards was " I am so glad they raised our taxes so they could send out full color adds " 🤨 when other methods would be cheaper and more effective. At my office we got three because some were adresswd to other past tenannts. why send that to businesses?

I feel safer in Sequim and Port Townsend then I do in Port Angeles. I've lived in this area my entire life, before I moved back to Sequim, I wouldn't even go to the 3rd street Safeway by myself, getting gas was nothing but anxiety and keeping my husband on the phone. I now carry self defense with me wherever I go because of whats happening in PA when I didn't before 2025. Our town was never any rainbows and gumdrops, but now trick or treating downtown feels like a gamble on safety, and taking the bus is the same way. I remember when you could at least walk downtown with a group and be safe, but now? You can't even do that anymore. This is the worst PA has ever been and I would rather move to Port Townsend than live in PA again.

The Tribe is not the reason that they are closing and should not be blamed or be associated with that reasoning. It sounds like a health issue with the owner not lack of business. The Tribe has built a good restaurant but people go there to experience a good meal. If it wasn’t good nobody would continue to patronize it. Crazy Harry’s has a good start in building that business model and cliental. There is plenty of great restaurants in Sequim and PA that thrive because they offer a good value. The Tribe is not responsible for the actions of this owners health problems.

What is the message and the conversation one should have with a person holding a sign on a public street that says “ no fucking way” and “democracy needs your courage”? It makes zero sense to stop to find out what the cause is and engage one of these SI folks. A conversation would turn to name calling in 30 seconds. These sign carrying folks make about much sense as the “dead fetus” photos of the right. I guess the only thing to be thankful for is the fact they have a right to speak in public here in America. Just a couple thoughts/questions:
This week I received the NOLS 6 x 9 full color, two-sided post card advertising the Summer Reading Program. I am NOT against the Summer Reading Program but wonder if there would be a less expensive option for advertising?? Perhaps posters placed in the schools, daycare centers, the pool, YMCA, etc. I have no young children, neither do many of my friends & relatives. No one on my block has any young children, but I imagine all got the postcard. Isn't this postcard a waste of money & resources? Mine is in the recycling bin, but I wonder if it is recyclable considering the colored paper?? Or is money not a consideration any more??

Lincoln Street Safeway: I NEVER go there! It is NOT safe! A couple I know went there. The husband went into the store. The wife chose to stay in the car. Soon some individual was knocking on the window wanting money. Will they be pulling a gun out next demanding some?? Welcome to the Wild Wild West! IF the parking lot belongs to the Albertsons/Safeway Corporation, I would think they could do better judging by the prices on their groceries.
One more re: leaving Port Angeles. Two senior, single women I know had to leave Port Angeles. Not because they wanted to; they had to because they couldn't afford to live here any more. Imagine being in your 60s/70s & having to pull up stakes & start over. Finding a new residence, Dr., dentist, etc. It is very depressing. Two couples I also know moved to another state because they could no longer stand the local & state governments & high cost of living.
I know a few self sufficient, fit, attractive senior women who moved away even though it meant higher rent in a smaller space because the options for companionship for singles in later years are mostly Wheeler protest types or burnt out older addicts and they are not interested in being told what to think or being rescuers
Those benefits are the standard in all their jobs except the extra 5 days off for mangement. Even entry level gets the equivalent of 17% of their work days OFF with PAY. What private business can offer that for hourly jobs? From what I understand is pretty standard for county and city employees as well. So it's easy to see why govt employees mostly vote for the ruling party because they are attached to generous pay and benefits. County employees don't even have to pay for the "and family" health insurance benefits, worth thousands every year.
So yeah my first thought when I saw those postcards was " I am so glad they raised our taxes so they could send out full color adds " 🤨 when other methods would be cheaper and more effective. At my office we got three because some were adresswd to other past tenannts. why send that to businesses?
