First off, your article cleared up something for me. I was wondering why every candidate but Clallam County Commissioners listed themselves as Nonpartisan… That has been cleared up for me... “Keep the party label on the commissioner and a local campaign becomes tied to the White House”

Clallam County Assessor

• Lee Hancock (Nonpartisan)

• Antonio Price (Nonpartisan)

Clallam County Auditor

• Shoona Riggs (Nonpartisan)

• Virginia Shogren (Nonpartisan)

Clallam County Commissioner Board District 3

• Mike French (D)

• Jake Seegers (Independent Party)

Clallam County Director of Community Development

• Bruce Emery (Nonpartisan)

Clallam County Prosecuting Attorney

• Mark Nichols (Nonpartisan)

Clallam County Sheriff

• Brian King (Nonpartisan)

Clallam County Treasurer

• Jennifer L. White (Nonpartisan)

Second, the article answered my question of why the Charter Review Commission accomplished so little by wasting so much time on internal power control rather than the true intent of a CRC, which is to send proposals to the VOTERS to decide any CHANGES OR REQUIREMENTS in the evolving events that is so concerning to the citizens of Clallam County

“...Washington statutes allow counties to adopt, by public vote, a "Home Rule Charter." A charter allows counties to adopt a "constitution" THAT CAN CHANGE THEIR FORM OF GOVERNMENT and/or create requirements for the operation of government beyond those required in the State constitution…”

SO, in other words, the CRC was controlled by those who wanted to keep the good ole boy system as is. They succeeded. Stop as many proposals from reaching the VOTERS that might unbalance the status quo of power. Never was it about the will of the people.

Turnout, turnout, turnout ... get your friends and family to vote, it's the only way to effect change. The good ol' boys network currently in charge has powerful backers and most important reasons to oppose change -- protect their government-funded and NGO-connected gold-plated jobs and salary/benefit packages and protect tribal influence, and promote taxing the working class with increased property assessments and levy lifts to fund permissive ideologies and policies and the aforementioned government/NGO jobs. And can we please quit referring to the local LWV as nonpartisan?
