The commissioners did not respond to yesterday's question asking what policies have improved conditions in Clallam County over the past several years. Here is today's email:

Dear Commissioners,

Attached is a recent newsletter for your reference.

In many public discussions, the Jamestown Tribe is framed as “overburdened, underserved, and vulnerable.” But based on what we’re seeing locally, it appears they are doing better than just about anyone else in Clallam County—particularly when it comes to access to funding, regulatory flexibility, and economic opportunity.

What advice would you give to a constituent who is operating a business in direct competition with the Jamestown Tribe, but does not have access to those same advantages?

And what role, if any, do you believe the County should play in ensuring fairness for the residents and businesses you represent?

Robert's avatar

Jeff, this is enlightening. On the one hand, JKT often portrays itself as disenfranchised, in need of public assistance that many believe is due them to make up for past wrongs perpetrated by the white man. And so they milk the system for all it’s worth. And why not, if they can? On the other hand, thanks in no small measure to massive government money, they have become a business juggernaut that competes directly with non tribal entities. This is not unique to them, tribes all over the country do the same thing. Isn’t it fair to ask, when is it going to be enough?

Eric Fehrmann's avatar

Enough now. Commissioners should be demanded, by the non-tribal citizens of the United States of America, to write a letter to the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Department of Natural Resources, Washington State Representatives, Washington State Senators, Etc. opposing the transfer of the Dungeness Wildlife Refuge to the Jamestown Klallam Tribal (JST) corporation.

I demand, as a citizen of Clallam County, Washington, U.S.A., that the Clallam County Commissioners draft a letter in opposition to the transfer of the Dungeness Wildlife Refuge to the Jamestown Klallam Tribe. This land is already in trust for all citizens of the United States of America, which includes members of the Jamestown Tribe.

Reagan's avatar

I'd like to think that contacting anyone might help. But, take for instance, The Bureau of Indian Affairs. It's managed by Indians. The Washington State reps & senators are all Democrats, as is Dave Upthegrove, The Commissioner of Public lands.

There are 70+ thousand residence here. I don't know how many vote, but imagine your representative receiving 20+ thousand letters opposing this land transfer. Might you be one?

I got mews for Jonathon! It is my business as long as you shop at OUR stores and drive on my streets and spend MY money. You sound like you think you can do whatever you want because you are special. God made the land not you, he just allowed you to live there. YOU might have invented the canoe but the people you rant about gave YOU the car you now drive. Get a life and be thankful for what have prospered from the White Man and how he has allowed you benefit from his wisdom and what you enjoy today. I did not see any Tribal inventions that furthered your nation. It is my business as long as you live in MY world.

Jonathan Arakawa states that the tribe is a sovereign nation and there is nothing you can do about it. What they do is none of the white man's business.

OK.

"It was posted by Jonathan Arakawa—a youth leader who is already working within local schools, helping shape curriculum and student understanding of tribal sovereignty, civic engagement, and governance."

What other "sovereign nation" has access to our public schools to indoctrinate the students and to shape the curriculum?

4 reasonable development's avatar

Gaslighting at its finest. Jonathan Arakawa posted JSK IS NOT A CORPORATION. Now that we know who he is and his bio, it goes to show how far this individual will go and what else does he teach our children that is fake news? Scary real scary, no wonder our youth have so many problems because they are bombarded with so many conflicting adult wacko issues! Children are our most vulnerable in society & choosing them to victimize is unacceptable!

Jennifer's avatar

Dale, I agree that the sovereign indoctrination should not be allowed in our schools. It goes into the many ironies of our federal funds working against us. Yes, we are also funding to brainwash our kids.

Thank you for this. There is so much going on here that is not realized by the public majority. There are no indigenous or "Native" Americans living today. Only the legitimate or claimed progeny of same. The BIA was established to help "Native" Americans assimilate into the USA society. Wanted, unwanted, hoped for, hated, appreciated or most any other characterization one could imagine that has happened. Most any and every "Native" American historical life function has been replaced or changed. "Native" Americans of today use computers, cell phones, powered transportation, munitions, a technologically developed transportation system of roads, bridges, ferries and air travel, sanitation systems and on it goes. The "Native" Americans the BIA was established to support no longer live. The BIA is an antiquated and no longer needed Government bureau. The tribal publication with now limited availability is telling. The tribe does not want the greater public seeing the inequities they enjoy and how the tribe further plans to exploit those inequities which are many. It is the height of hypocrisy to claim moral high ground, historical abuse and being the ultimate land steward, while cashing social security and retirement checks at their casino. The very same casino their forefathers operated for so many generations.

UFOCCWD's avatar

Indian tribes have been supported by taxpayers $$$ more than any other ethnic group to the point of abuse.JST-JKT has mass income tens of millions $$$$ yearly from it's enterprises casino, gas station deli, hotel, golf course, restaurant, rentals, commercial seafood, marijuana dispensary, drug rehab mat clinic, hospital ect ect ect and it still is given free grant $$$ to extend profits which is an absolute abuse of tax $$$.Tribal member ron's niece made a recent comment that "white people are the problem'.She is right and govt should shut off all future funding asap and only give to the needy not the greedy.

Clallamity Jen's avatar

Outstanding public comment, Jeff! All the comments played were great; thank you to all who attend and speak out!

I was curious, so I asked google: What is 400% of federal poverty level:

AI says: Based on 2026 federal poverty guidelines, 400% of the Federal Poverty Level (FPL) for a single individual is approximately $63,840 annually. For a family of four, 400% FPL is approximately $132,000 annually. This threshold is critical for determining eligibility for subsidized health insurance through the Affordable Care Act (ACA).

2026 Annual Income Limits at 400% FPL (48 Contiguous States/DC):

1 Person: ~$63,840

2 People: ~$86,560

3 People: ~$109,280 [calculated]

4 People: ~$132,000

Note: The 400% figure represents the threshold used to determine financial assistance; however, income thresholds may vary slightly based on specific official sources.

———

It’s funny that attaching the word ‘poverty’ to income level can make it sound like someone is in poverty; but 400% of federal poverty level is not poverty level which is a little over $15,000 a year per person.

So, tribal members making $63,000 must be struggling if they’re going to the food bank. Good thing they aren’t burdened with paying property taxes. LOL.

Jeff Tozzer's avatar

This is ripe for a meme.

Powdermonkey's avatar

You’ve got to admire the enthusiasm. Marching in here waving ‘400% of the poverty level’ like you just cracked the nuclear codes, when the whole number is built on a 1960s grocery budget. The federal poverty line is so outdated it still thinks rent is fifty bucks and a can of beans is dinner for four. That’s literally why every modern program multiplies it by 200 or 400; not because $63,000 is ‘poverty,’ but because the original formula is a museum exhibit and it is easier than rewriting the law.

Meanwhile, in Washington, a single adult needs north of fifty‑five grand just to keep the lights on and the wheels turning. Clallam County isn’t exactly bargain‑basement living either. So sure, 400% of the poverty level sounds dramatic, but only if you ignore the part where the poverty level itself hasn’t been updated since rotary phones.

Clallamity Jen's avatar

Nice to see you need attention, Powdermonkey. Thanks for interpreting it as marching; I was just curious because 400% doesn’t tell me anything if I don’t know what the federal poverty level is. I’d like to know how many other people read “400% of poverty level” and know exactly what that means; besides you, since you know everything. LOL.

Sure, it’s not cheap out here, and yet plenty of people are making it and continuing to buy houses and land out here; over 400 sales in Clallam County in the last six months. It’s cheaper than some places in this country, and more expensive than others. If one person can’t make it on $55,000 a year, that doesn’t tell me anything since they aren’t saying what they spend their money on.

The federal poverty levels get updated every year in January. Where did you hear that they haven’t been updated since rotary phones? Sure, it started out as $1,000 per person annually back in the 1960s, and now it’s up to over $15,000 per person annually. Maybe it’s unrealistic, but it’s also unrealistic to think a person doesn’t have to work hard to make more money.

Don’t know about anyone else but just hearing or reading, “It’s not the white man’s business” does not set well in so many ways. Let’s switch that around, “It’s not the Indian’s business”. When actually Indian’s have infiltrated every nook and cranny of the white man business & managed very well to con their wealth & rule as a monarchy over tribes and “white people”. The tribe has a royal family & the monarch rules with absolute power over subjects. Local anmericans are being ruled by a king & it’s not the one the sign carry protesters are bitching about, it’s the local king right here in Clallam County.

JKT DICTATORSHIP is characterized by a leader who holds absolute or near-absolute political power. Politics and news are controlled by him, in turn, facilitated through an INNER CIRCLE OF ELITES. MK's avatar
Apr 8Edited

I haven't research this yet but my question is what is the metric that tells anyone, including Congress, that a tribe has arrived at self-determination?

Until someone can answer this question what we have is an open-tab that the tribes have primed via campaign donations.

Susie Blake's avatar

That's it in a nutshell

Jennifer's avatar

MK, there isn't any one, nil , zip, zero to determine when self reliance is established. Tribes are able to suck on the Federal Tit forever. You aren't sovereign when you are dependent on another sovereign nation to keep you sovereign. We need to amend the Constitution of the United States to come in line with modern standards of the definition of self reliance.

None of the White Man's business???

Now there is a special kind of atrocious mentally ill Insult from the local Indian criminal cabal~! The REAL crybabies and whiners of the community, the S'Klallam Indian Tribe Government and their lying thieving shills, constantly play the "poor Indian" card, directly & regularly make the most disgusting racist comments possible against anyone, steal everyone's public land every chance that they get, rob every taxpayer dollar that they can get their thieving greedy hands on, beg like common street panhandlers for "donations" as they insult the entire community, their so-called "business locations" are venues that encourage & profit off gambling & alcohol abuse and prey on addicted folks to trick them out of their money & health AND are known as illicit drug sales locations that harbor & entertain violent large scale drug dealers, they build & operate various so-called "health centers" that are little more than Ponzi schemes (money laundering scams) of health insurance and government funds theft that actually brings hundreds of very serious drug dealers, drug addicts & prostitutes right into the heart of our communities every year, they unfairly "compete" and actively work to undermine & exclude ALL other businesses from making an Income that they possibly can by ruthless, underhanded & unfair business practices which in many cases eliminates their competition entirely and constantly pushes good folks & businesses out of OUR community, they violate their agreements & promises, by destroying existing effective long time flood prevention works that exposes OUR lands and folks to destruction and physical harm while plotting to steal their victims prime privately owned real estate & homes, they COMPLETELY lie to bully, badger, Brainwash, and abuse adults and children alike about the REAL history of OUR lands while very intentionally "omitting" the fact that their own Indian Tribe has a recent genocidal mass murder history where they INVADED this very land from the Northern regions that were NEVER even part of the US, and THEY DARE to claim that their evil satanic "business plan" in not the business of the vast majority of Clallam County residents who they constantly victimize??? Oh, OK then, that sure does sound like a typical evil unlawful unconstitutional corporate government system to me and "we" should be accustomed to these kinds of evil & despicable Hitler-istic "government management 101" crimes against humanity techniques by now~! If this reprehensible lying scumbag of a clown Arakawa feels that "it is none of the White Man's business" what the Jamestown S'Klallam Tribal Government does, then he and the rest of these disgusting lying reptiles can get the Hell out OUR community & stay OUT, keep their nasty claws off of OUR lands and properties, stay OUT of OUR schools, communities and governments business matters, quit bribing OUR government servants with so-called "donations" (and God only knows what else), keep their dirty fingers out of OUR taxpayer and private pockets, and mind their own damn business~!!! These liars in the S'Klallam Tribal government and their evil hobgoblin trolls are beneath contempt and EVERYTHING that the vast majority of Americans of ALL races thankfully never want to become~! Yes Jeff Tozzer, our otherwise wonderful and peaceful community would be FAR better off if all of these foul community despoilers were completely removed from OUR lands and society that deserves better than the likes of these conniving monsters~!

Have a beautiful Spring Day~!

Still wondering how much they, the tribe knew about the recent drug bust operating out of a hotel room. Hoping LE is reviewing video of people coming and going into that room.

Michael Heath's avatar

EXCELLENT comment Patriot CAS~!

Absolutely! How long was the Tribal government aware of the drug dealing going on in their hotel and on their casino property? How long did their so-called "security" know what was happening? How many previous stays in the hotel and on the casino property did these large-scale drug dealers have before they were finally arrested? Is there a criminal connection between the tribal government and/or our own Clallam County court system and/or possibly the police, that is linked to these drug dealers??? We know that there is a VERY disturbing link between officials in the Clallam County court system (especially at least one very questionable judge) and at least one of their paid county employees (operatives) who was also arrested for gun crimes and drug possession & dealing in this casino related drug operation... So, exactly how deep does that criminal conspiracy go into our community??? These deadly drugs do not just "magically" appear here, so have we discovered the foreign criminal cabal and its connections to poisoning OUR own community right here??? There was a MASSIVE foreign drug cabal - mafia & medical community connected raid that was successfully conducted in the Seattle area recently, which was quickly covered up after briefly making the national mainstream media where connections to some local government employees were made, so what the Hell is REALLY going on??? I come from a "government family" and have supported the police all of my life, even though I know that they have been criminally operating outside of The American Constitution in direct violation of their oaths and duty for over 100 years, but I no longer "assume" that those in law enforcement are honest or doing their duty. I know that there are at least some good cops here who are trying to serve the community, however after the mass murder COVID democide we ALL should by now realize that we have been betrayed by the entire government (especially here in Washington State). There are some very heroic exceptions, especially a couple of our county sheriffs in Washington State, however, as always, the majority of people in Washington State are sound asleep and not even aware that the Washington State government is now attacking OUR sheriffs in a vicious underhanded war against the few good sheriffs who did their duty by pushing back on the mass murder COVID criminals of humanity within our state~! The criminals in our Washington State government are attempting to force OUR Sheriffs under their direct control, instead of the American Constitutional standard where the Sheriffs are independent of the overall government so that they can serve to protect all of us... Anyway, you open up THE most important questions about the corrupt Jefferson tribal government and God only knows how deep it goes into our community~! Keep up the good work and NEVER forget or quit digging for the answers about our own government~!

Sincerely, Mike

Michael Heath's avatar

Personally, as a long-time student of history, I find it BIGGLEY amusing that the local American Indian tribal government has already forced the corrupt local governments into erecting street signs in some places with so-called "written American Indian language" on them~! REALLY~??? This is interesting because American Indians never invented the written language in any tribe that exists in North America (the US or Canada). Is this something new? Another rewrite of history? HA~! The Southern American Aztecs, etc. did have some more advanced representative "stick figures" and generally understood symbols, but just how well widespread and universally understood they were, even back in the day, is unclear... Typically, throughout the majority of the historic record, only the "elite" were allowed to be able to read or write any written communications, all the way up to a few hundred years ago... Interesting, is it not? We here are VERY well informed about cannabis as a valuable medicinal and industrial gift to humanity, so we are unconcerned about the "pot shops" because public use of "pot" in NEVER going away now that most folks understand that it is useful and harmless for the vast majority of humans. Tobacco and alcohol are both absolutely drop dead deadly when abused, but we are not foolish enough to believe that they will ever go away either... FAR more concerning is the REAL deadly illicit and so-called "legal" pharmaceutical drugs that the criminals of humanity are flooding our communities with~! This is why I and many others suspect that the Jamestown tribal government and elements of our state and local governments are involved in a criminal conspiracy to manufacture and/or distribute these REAL dangerous and deadly drugs. But the problems are FAR worse, because these "government bonds" that have been shoved down Americans throats over the past few decades are REALLY the "ticking time bombs" that will eventually become due and payable, one after another, which will in fact be catastrophic to the US and global economies unless "we" head that disaster off somehow. I believe that President Trump and the white hats are dealing with this serious threat, but I can't imagine that there won't be suffering and pain as part of the solution. I hope that I am wrong! As for the American Indian tribes who believe that they are "winning" their lands back, this is ALL a HUGE Trogen Horse style scam, because in due time they will find that the corrupt US corporate government will again betray the American Indians, grab back these valuable lands, and finish exterminating the Americans Indians with great ease whenever they desire these valuable lands~! Obviously, the American Indian tribes will NEVER be allowed to "keep" these lands "forever" and anyone who has studied history knows that... Keep up the great work wonderful Patriot Susan C Bonallo~! These sure are crazy times ;-))

Sincerely, Mike

National Congress of American Indians, I had never heard of that organization before. A statement from the president of this organization.

"This is our moment. This is the time to reaffirm our strength, resilience, and shared commitment to a brighter future for Indian Country. We will speak up… and we will not wither when it comes to protecting the sovereignty, safety, and prosperity of Tribal Nations."

- NCAI President Mark Macarro, 2025 State of Indian Nations Address

I lived in another state where the county there had several tribes and all was good, not the aggressiveness we see here. There was no land take over. They operated a casino, restaurant and hotel. They provided funding for law enforcement and prosecutors to handle crimes committed on their property. They also funded several fire trucks for local fire departments. I still say Allen is running the commissioners and he saw early how they could be manipulated. Have we gone past the point of no return???

We are finally getting the information about how the Tribal Donations are funded: through Blank Check DONATIONS from the US Federal Government. Guess what folks, THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS "GOVERNMENT MONEY"! IT IS ALL TAXPAYER MONEY! BIA is taxpayer money. Yours and mine. Are US citizens the payers for all the tribal activities, as we stand by in guilt and shame and wonderment as a Sovereign Country takes work, benefits, purchacing power, ownership, and the future of this American land we call home?. And then claim to our wide-eyed amazement of how they have Donated to our community, through the support of the very people we hired (elected) to work for us ALL. Where will it end? The stated goal is to reclaim ALL of the lost territory from thousands of years of native occupation.

I carry no guilt, but I may have to start packing to move if the Res. Wants me to pay rent for my property. Oh wait, Ithink I just did??... April 15th....

But the other side of this coin is that this local Tribe has used some of their BIA FEDERAL GRANT money to good purposes such as the Clinic, Nature Center, Refuge Co-management, and others. Im sure that the White-folk couldnt have obtained nor completed these worthwhile projects as easily and attractively without the Tribal donations. Its a good use of tax money. The worrisome part to White folks is : How much land will be "Transfered" to tribal ownership, taking it out of taxable property status, and when is the new Reservation property line enough? Do I need to pack yet? (I live on property near the Spit). Is my home needed next? For "below market value"? When?
