Mission-Critical: Ask the Hospital Board to Follow Its Own Bylaws

Forks Community Hospital added language to its bylaws—after two years of work—that supports public access to meetings in line with RCW 42.30.220. The law encourages agencies to offer remote access so the public can observe their government deliberate on their behalf.

But the board still hasn’t implemented it. We’ve been told it’s “too expensive” or “too risky,” even though remote access is standard across Washington and costs almost nothing.

This is a small ask with a big impact. Transparency matters. Accessibility matters. Trust matters.

Take One Minute

Email the board: board@forkshospital.org

Ask them to implement remote access for all public meetings, as their bylaws already support.

A community shouldn’t need to fight to simply watch its own government work.

Hello,

I support providing remote access to public meetings and recording them. In our rural area, remote access can save a drive from Neah Bay or Sekiu. Recorded meetings provide engagement for people who work and cannot attend meetings, and it promotes participation and democracy. This does not have to be expensive; it can be as simple as an iPad recording in the corner, which is later uploaded to YouTube (look at Port Angeles Business Association for how easy this is).

I appreciate your consideration in promoting transparency,

Jeff Tozzer

Yes! So far WE the county & city of forks have approved $400,000 “free money” to pay an outside consultant to evaluate the forks industrial park for needed improvements to lease the space to businesses.

$400,000 is a lot of money to provide a fancy report! Maybe the timber for the printed report is from the WestEnd?

My own use of the PA branch of the library has changed with the shift in the library's core mission.

I once sat in the alcoves to preview a stack of selected books before checking them out, but find those chairs now permanently occupied.

Being a neat freak also makes me question the sanitation issues the library staff must now contend with.

I notice the librarians often check the public library bathrooms. I assume it's to deter bathing in the sinks, to check for overdosed patrons in the stalls or to look for damages. I no longer use those facilities out of caution, just as I no longer venture into the bathroom on the city pier.

Maybe I have nothing to fear from the growing numbers of unhoused folks, but the reptilian part of my brain feels unsure and cautious in this new world.

GMO reptilian/simian beings are we. Real science proves it, via genetic research and genetic engineering...our 'scientists' have been doing chimeric 'research' for decades...blending genetics between species...playing God with no common sense and shrouded in secrecy...along with mRNA modifications in real time via 'the jabs'!😎

Expand full comment
Jennifer's avatar

AFB, I don't feel that separate areas should be considered "safe zones" or that the librarian's or the people putting on the events should have to be safety monitors. Children wander everywhere, and a library, most certainly, should at least be as safe as possible.

I'm going through my mind the increasing areas of Clallam County that are not safe anymore. The list is growing. The new motto, "Be Aware Of Your Surroundings" is a weak warning that our leaders are giving us, as if to say, we are now the guardians of our safety.

So far this applies to our Parks, Sidewalks, Outdoor Restrooms, Businesses, Playgrounds, Trails and more. The homeless Elephant is sitting there and taking over the county's security.

Yes, I too wonder how the librarians feel about this ; )

"Children wander everywhere..." I hope they are supervised, though, by their parents. I wouldn't let little kids wander around a library. If they're old enough to know better, 14+, maybe 13(?), then I would expect that they know the score, how to behave. That's our job as parents. Not to helicopter, but to teach our kids about what they are exposed to and how to behave properly in society.

I'm not in disapproval of your comment, by the way. I just wanted to comment about this part of your comment because we all know that many parents are neglectful with their children in public. It not only can annoy others, but it can even be dangerous for others or for the child.

Expand full comment

ANDREA, true about supervision, but who suffers when they aren't supervised? I lost my child in a clothing store once. It was when Adam Walsh was abducted. I had one in a stroller, the 3 year old went between the hanging clothes. It took 3 hours to locate him. He had gone to a toy store we pasted by...my point is, children can slip away from the best of parents. I hated those leashes they put on children...I got one after that.

Expand full comment
ANDREA L HANA's avatar

Yes, it's real. I have kids, I totally get that. I think that I had in mind that people have used libraries as a "babsitter" for their older children, even as young as 10. A few years ago, this may have been okay. NOT NOW. Right? So, I wanted to emphasize this. Some parents are pretty clueless. We've seen them. Staring at their phone while their 4 year old is on the ground kicking, crying, and screaming. Or another who dumps their 10 and 12 year old off at the library while they run errands. It's just not safe. Certainly not to let kids "wander" in a public library. It's always been a hot-spot for pedo and weirdos. Not so much in Sequim, but now... it's different.

Hello Patriot Denise Lapio~!

It's great to hear from you again~! :]

Ha~! Yes, these socialists/communists/Marxists/Satanic worshippers always shove their evil BS on all of us, but I have NEVER seen any of them step up to help anyone but themselves. They only want to create confusion, destruction, and social problems for "us", but they very carefully quickly "disappear" when things go sideways. I remember about 8 or 9 years ago when I was in Port Townsend to buy something on Craigslist, and it was DEEP into a residential neighborhood where no one would ever go unless they had specific business there. One of these phony liberal democrat hypocrites had a sign in front of their multi-million-dollar home "Migrants Welcome Here"~! HA~! It was just virtue signaling. Not a chance in Hell would any illegal alien EVER be in that neighborhood, unless one of these treasonous "slavers" were looking for a maid, housekeeper, or someone cheap to cut their grass~! I have researched this very issue for many decades, and the undeniable truth is that these criminals within our country really are the new modern "slave owners" who don't really give a damn about the illegal aliens at all, because all they care about is saving their money regardless of the harm it causes to anyone else. For many years these treasonous underhanded scumbags were trained like pet monkeys to automatically scream that they didn't want to pay what the fair market price of a tomato would be without illegal alien farm workers, so that was their phony excuse for faking their support of these illegal aliens. Of course, now many have realized that the criminally corrupt democrat party and lying criminally corrupt democrat voters know full well that these criminal illegal aliens will ILLEGALLY vote for the democrats that have perverted our country, violated our laws, and rigged our elections against us for many decades with millions & millions of fraudulent votes. This is the ONLY reason that America is SO screwed up, because the legal legitimate American voters would NEVER have voted for the BS that we are all dealing with today. Yes, there are some democrat voters who are really just too stupid to understand what they are doing, but then again "we" need to investigate the completely corrupt and failed educational system that has NEVER had a single successful year in well over 60 years~! The "dumbing down" of Americans has been VERY intentional and is many generations in process now, to the point that many high school graduates today can't read, write, or do simple basic math even at elementary school levels that existed 20 years ago... These criminals in our government and our community have destroyed America and a great many American lives, all because they are rotten to the core greedy selfish treasonous clowns who have sold us all out, all of their miserable worthless lives~! I know these things for sure, because in my long life I have for many years been in professions where I was able to see financials and tax returns of these treasonous criminals and people would be absolutely SHOCKED at how and why these fake "humanitarians" act the way that they do~!!! They would sell their entire family out for $20 in a heartbeat~! Have a great day and thanks for your most relevant comment!

A deer with a broken leg does not get a cast and aided recovery care to heal. We are all genetically unique. That uniqueness can manifest as someone who is exceptionally competent or someone unable to provide the most basic needs. Regardless of how much effort and resources are dedicated to indigence, it cannot be irradicated. We simply cannot fix everyone. Natures system of dealing with the indigent has developed over roughly 300,000 years. Moving the compassion meter a bit closer to natures model is worth consideration. Sink or swim has it's merit.

We accept they are 'real' issues but we don't have to accept it on-goingly as ok, or right, or unsolvable...they must be removed from society, institutionalized and rehabbed, if possible...helped on to the next life, if not. Wandering the community, wreaking havoc cannot be one of the options.

The churches require some level of decency and accountability in order to interface with the needy...they can't and shouldn't be asked to deal with the criminally insane and our government isn't dealing with it either...rock and hard place...what shall be done?

Also, many of the churches are dwindling because of aging out and secularism, so less able to absorb and support the marginalized.

We didn't used to have the epidemic of hard-core street addicts to deal with...now we do...this isn't solvable at the secular level...it is a spiritual/psychological thing...it requires a vision of something beyond this world...faith, for those of us who have not had a 'conversion' experience...(once you know...you know.)..I don't 'know', yet, but I believe and have faith that this realm is NOT IT!😎

Jeff, thanks for this "angle" on a widespread and complicated problem that exists here. It's not one that we would generally have thought about, or I speak for myself, among the many ways in which this issue is plaguing our community.

Clallam County's Path to Broke: Projections Through 2028

Yes, based on the latest official projections and recent events, Clallam County is on a trajectory that could lead to effective "broke" status—meaning depleted reserves, severe service cuts, or insolvency—by 2028 if current trends hold and no major revenue fixes materialize. Reserves have already eroded 26.7% since 2021 (from $12.4M to $9.1M post-2025 draws), and the failed November 2025 levy lid lift (59% against) locked in deeper shortfalls. County Administrator Todd Mielke's August 2025 presentation warned of escalating deficits without intervention: $3.8M in 2026, $6.6M in 2027, and $8.2M in 2028—potentially exhausting funds amid $3M+ annual tribal trust land revenue losses and statewide pressures like insurance hikes (up 5%) and slowing grants.

Straight Shooters (satire) article today relates to the only way out of a Path to Broke is VOTE in the right people. His article is funny and dead on true.

Letter to the Editor

To Whom It May Concern,

I’ve been trying to wrap my head around this Jake Seegers fellow running for Clallam County Commissioner in District 3, and frankly, I’m stumped. Completely baffled. Thoroughly disoriented.

From what I gather, this guy actually has accounting experience. Real accounting experience — not the “I once balanced my checkbook in 1998” type that we’ve grown accustomed to in local politics. On top of that, he’s got actual business experience too. Again, not the usual “I ran a Facebook page for my cousin’s dog-walking startup” résumé padding we see every election season.

And then — and this is the part I’m really struggling with — he seems to want to talk to people. Regular people. The voters. The taxpayers. The same people politicians usually avoid like they’re handing out subpoenas. Jake Seegers is apparently out there chatting with citizens, answering questions, and acting like our opinions matter. What on earth is going on?

Honestly, it’s all a bit suspicious. A candidate with relevant experience, a work ethic, and an actual interest in the community? That’s not how this is supposed to go. Most politicians wander in with zero background in anything remotely useful, mutter a few vague talking points, collect a pension, and vanish behind a wall of bureaucratic fog until reelection time. That’s the system we know. That’s the system we understand.

But Jake? He wants to serve the public and use his skills to do it. If this catches on, we might accidentally end up with competent leadership — and I don’t think this county is mentally prepared for that level of disruption.

Sincerely,

A Very Confused Voter

Are you sure he isn’t a AI bot? Seems too good for this county. Not that we don’t really deserve it and it couldn’t come at a better time, considering how many years commissioners have not dealt with anything. I have doubts that he’s real. Going to check for a power source next time I see him. We’ve been cheated out of elected leaders working for the voters. You can understand my need to verify .

I'm 'feeling' less and less safe in our county. I don't park anywhere out of sight of a major thoroughfare to go for a walk...I had my car broken into and camera gear and other stuff stolen years ago in Spokane, both times in 'out of the way' places.

I hadn't thought about it much through the years...but now, I think about it often.

I grew up in Forks in the 60's and 70's and while there was some 'outlaw' activity, it was rare for theft or assault...except Friday, Saturday nights, downtown got kind of rough now and then...but, if you minded your own business...it was live-and-let-live...now...not so much!
