Today's email to the commissioners:

Dear Commissioners,

How often do you ride Clallam Transit?

All three county commissioners (who also sit on the Clallam Transit Board) can be reached by emailing the Clerk of the Board at loni.gores@clallamcountywa.gov.

MK's avatar

I'd add that the wraps be taken off per Rita's comment.

jedjennings50's avatar

Then they would have to look at all the damage they have done to our beautiful

County. The blinders would have to come off to dodge the attackers and druggies.

Rita Lilita's avatar

Removing the decorative vinyl wrap from the transit buses would literally promote transparency. I will not board a bus if I cannot see who is inside and what is happening onboard. That's a Safety 101 maxim. Imagine how those vinyl wraps complicate issues for law enforcement if they cannot assess an onboard situation.

Chris Clark's avatar

They tinted the glass years ago so people couldn’t see that their wasn’t many riders then. I knew this as a fact because I know the person who did all the buses

Geoff Fox's avatar

and yet, too much tint on your auto/truck glass nets you the owner of the vehicle - a set of laws for us and them.

Glen Parker's avatar

A friend once called it the just us system...stuck with for 40 years.

JJW's avatar

Not paying attention, I did not realize the wraps covered the windows. If correct, it is unbelievable that anyone would think it would be safe. Once again I cannot express my disgust for the decisions made by the city and county people who are responsible for these decisions.

John Worthington's avatar

They can give me a ticket for too dark of tinted window..Tint reflection for sedans:

Front Side windows: Must not be more than 35% reflective.

Back Side windows: Must not be more than 35% reflective.

Tint reflection for SUV and vans:

Front Side windows: Must not be more than 35% reflective.

Back Side windows: Must not be more than 35% reflective.

JJW's avatar

John, definitely not enforced . Daily I see cars, pickups you can not see in at all. Maybe if you were kissing the window.

SC's avatar

Just gotta eloquent my ghetto original response so it is not misconstrued by the haters

SC's avatar

Yeah! What if some of us wanna ride topless in there??

Sounds like a coordinating effort against us minority topless rider's in clallam county! I'd personally rather see a topless rider in a passenger vehicle than someone struggling to find a vein between their toes. 🙄

(Apologies for my blatantly stated hypocrisy. I've been pulled over for " too tinty tint in the past, so I'm obviously a little jaded)

SC's avatar

This came out wrong- I re-read it and jumped the gun.

I meant:

" what if some of us passengers in private vehicles want to ride topless in our own private vehicles? And we are pulled over for our dark tint. Meanwhile- a public bus is wrapped in a manner that is promoting and more forgiving of a public transport service that can enable an innocent citezen watch someone try to find a vein between their toes with a harm reduction needle."

It's hypocrisy

The county can homey up the rig but homey can't.

I recently rode the bus for the first time in many many years thinking I'll give it a go and save a little gas. Not only can you not see in, you can barely see out. You have no idea where you're at, can't read street signs and don't know when to pull the "dinger" telling the driver you want off. I can't imagine being unfamiliar with the area and trying to get around.

Rita Lilita's avatar

We got our senior discount passes at the transit office a few years ago with the intention of using the buses frequently. However, our first experience was so uncomfortable we dismissed that idea and have only used Strait Shot once when in a bind. The turnoff ride was a return from Forks with a mentally unstable person who singled us out and would not desist from senseless dialogue during which he insisted on responses. There aren't too many exit points along Crescent Lake to get off and board the next bus.

Kathy's avatar

That's frightening, being stuck inside with nowhere to escape. I'm glad it didn't escalate further, I'd say the driver should have done something but what can they do? They shouldn't have to put themselves in harms way to keep riders safe. My ride was uneventful but will likely be the last because of the wraps. Windows are made for looking in and out of, not being covered up.

Glen Parker's avatar

You are truly brave!

private man's avatar

If this area is such a beautiful treasure to behold then why tint the windows so you can't even see the heck out ? Hmmm... Duhh,,

Colin Taylor's avatar

Rita

That is such a good post and im so impressed that you have come up with that so early in the morning.

I cant imagine how much we paid put on on those wraps and who even had a say .

james carroll's avatar

Here’s a novel idea. Make public officials ride public transportation once a month. A dose of reality is in order.

Jeff Tozzer's avatar

James, please run for public office. That's so common sense.

Kathy's avatar

This reminds me that transit's Exec Director gets mileage reimbursement. Heading up transit and getting paid to drive your car, makes sense. He should be made to ride transit whenever possible to show us all how safe and wonderful it is. The reimbursement's not small change either, this is from AI:

Jim Fetzer, the former Executive Director and GM, was provided a $550 monthly automobile expense reimbursement alongside his $157,301 salary.

Sarah Kincaid's avatar

Great idea! If it is good enough for his employers (the tax-paying citizens), it's good enough for him.

Evrita Romero's avatar

That’s a great idea!

Geoff Fox's avatar

Yeah, but having a feel for politicians (look at their pics) they'd turn it into a photo shoot session, they'd announce the day, departure time, route and have their operatives along the glide path. And then announce to Clallam County "How safe it is, "sit back and leave the driving to us."

Side note The Criminal Justice contract expires 12/31/2025. Wait until you see the BILL to us taxpayers for 2026!!!!! (Under General Business 10 A of the Sequim City Council Meeting of 12/8/25)

Geoff Fox's avatar

But Part 2 gets even better. After this fine display in public, the photo op people rush to publish "goody two shoes" reports in the SG and PDN. Then they fire up their chosen ones to write letters of character assassination to the papers attacking people who think and reason and listen to the voices in the community, and weigh the evidence and arrive at their conclusions.

Glen Parker's avatar

Insist that they take off their blinders as they partake in all the fun they have created...

MK's avatar

I like the idea, but is once a month enough to get a flavor?

4 reasonable development's avatar

Nope, they should be required to ride at least once a week.

private man's avatar

Why not each day ?? Why only once a month ? Like the China visit to Frisco for only one day.

Nothing on our other community news source Next Door. Yet. People here have done a great service to the Next Door followers, providing a link to what is also going on in this County. It’s not all kitties, flower blossoms and deer in the gardens here In Clallam County. “Go tell it on the mountain…” CCWD is free.

Susan C Bonallo's avatar

You summed up breaking news on ND.

Kitties, flowers, sunsets.

Denise Lapio's avatar

Thank you, Jeff, and the Watchdogger who brought this event to light. If it weren't for CCWD, would anyone know what was going on in our County? Why would any news source not want to inform their readers of a safety factor concerning everyone, especially the most vulnerable? Transit bus drivers must keep their eyes on the road! They can't play security guard AND drive a bus full of people on streets filled with cars, cyclists, and pedestrians. How can these politicians look the other way when public safety is at stake? Why can't they face the truth? Why lie about a serious concern? Jim Stoffer received preferential treatment over a couple of words. Where is the security for the bus drivers and riders who have been physically attacked or feared for their safety?

MS's avatar

I have a very close friend who is in the unfortunate situation of living 3 spaces away from Heaward in the park. Up until this incident he would regularly have Maclinn over for dinner and drinks. No surprise here, but his regular methamphetamine has caused him to spiral out of control obviously. If we continue to allow hard drug use to be enabled in our community it will only get worse. It’s only going to become “The Wild Wilder West” until Washington turns back from being soft on criminals and continues to catch/release. Local and state governments are failing us big time as our tax dollars/elected representatives encourage bad behavior and drug use.

Jeff Tozzer's avatar

Wow, thanks for sharing those details.

Russell Holt's avatar

We are not a constitutional republic here in Clallam County, because in order to be one, the constitution, county policies, local Law Enforcement must be applied, respected and all rights therein honored. Few in this County believes that’s true today.

Because it’s not true. Judges, city, county government and Law Enforcement operate largely unbridled. Ozias, Stoffer and the rest of the usual suspect proved that to us, even when their actions are absurd. This is demonstrated by the liberal use of NGO's, secret meeting, back handed support by whoever gains the majority in county, city government.

People are rotten who currently represent us, bothersome beasts who seek to impose their will on others, but not on their dime, they charge the victim for it. Like the Transit bus driver that was assaulted that was charged to the transit driver from the commissioners, Law Enforcement, and those who vote for this current leadership. City Police Admin hid the assault from the media. Not like Todd Ortloff would be interested in the condition of Port Angeles transit system. He has these clowns on all the time putting on a seal clapping interviews with them. Print media in this area has gone with the no nothing narrative since the 90's that is until covid, then all hell broke loose with irresponsible fake reporting supporting anything and everything the county so called health director had to say, which was all lies to fit a narrative of control.

But it can be beaten back, neutralized, if civilized human beings agree on a course of action that deters the current evil nature supporting lunatics walking our streets. It’s an agreement that has long been lost in the Clallam county. Now, the streets have turned into a free for all and that has consequences.

Glen Parker's avatar

It's almost unbelievable!

Isn't it,!

Garry Blankenship's avatar

Particularly in anything public or Government there is no such thing as free. Clallam County Transit being "free" contributes to and encourages vagrant activity. Much like SNAP or similar benefits, people should pre-qualify for free transit tokens of tickets with proof of employment, school attendance, etc.. This would keep those who cannot qualify for free transit from using Clallam Transit as temporary housing. If you feed the Pigeons, you get more Pigeons. If you provide free services for vagrants, - - -

MK's avatar

This is the incestuous nature of politics that are unbalanced. Our BOCCC does nothing to advocate for the everyday citizens and fight Olympia for the laws and policies that they pass and push down on us. Instead they spend our money to go to WASAC meetings and figure out how to jimmy more greenbacks from us.

We need leadership who fights for the authenticity of Clallam County.

Glen Parker's avatar

Disgusting isn't it!!!!

Glen Parker's avatar

WowJeff,

What a surprise to hear my babbling on your report.....I appreciate you filling in some blanks and highlighting my concerns toward Mark Ozias.

I plan a part two to help fill in some blanks and really sjine a light on what could be an alternate path for those clowns. Your report of the bus driver attack is truly alarming and your follow up spot on!

Thank you for all you do! K&G

jedjennings50's avatar

I have the solution! Have a free drug day on the bus and fill it up and drive them to

Seattle where most came from.

JJW's avatar

Along with those making these various questionable decisions.

jedjennings50's avatar

They wouldn’t get on the bus. Too dangerous!

Glen Parker's avatar

Awesome idea! I had coffee coming out my nose I laughed so hard...

Where do I donate to this cause?

Don Beeman's avatar

Another Watchdog scoop! Yay! You rock, Jeff!

Free bus rides encourage mayhem on buses. The Climate Commitment Act, CCA, funds free bus rides paid with taxpayers’ money.

Taking it further: 50 years of leftist, globalist, Democrat, America hater climate lies and propaganda birthed the CCA. But there is much more evil those lies have created. They are largely responsible for so many sick, crazy, violent, and criminal people.

Go back to the beginning when the usual group of fear mongers created panic over air pollution. The problem was not the combustion products. The problem was too many in some areas. Ignoring that and the fact that those products were God’s design and the best we could hope for, EMISSIONS CHANGE was forced on us, even where emissions were not a problem, but places where they could waste our wealth and create other problems.

Do you recall how carbon monoxide was demonized although it is a clear gas and never hurt anyone outdoors? Carbon dioxide, which would become the required emission product, was praised because it would be good for the trees.

Problem: we aren’t trees. Many more elderly and young people seem to be growing wooden heads, and many young are putting down roots in their parents’ basements where the CO2 is higher.

Why is CO2 higher there? What do you really know about CO2 besides the lie, “it’s the greenhouse gas?”

Having forced us to make more CO2, our internal enemies, using THEIR climate lies, forced many Americans to accept and endure higher exhaled CO2 in tighter poorly ventilated homes, schools, and other buildings in order to conserve energy and save the planet. It does neither, but it did get Americans to beg for ObamaCare. Anything else? There’s more, but the following will do for now.

Is there something responsible for all the homelessness besides removing God, discipline, and personal responsibility from our lives, the high costs of homes, and abundant cheap drugs? (And besides being a lucrative industry)? YES!

conspAIRacy.com/blog.html#homeair

Tighter buildings were used to trick Americans to fall on their knees, bend over, and beg for the ObamaCare shafting.

conspAIRacy.com/theconspirators.html

We didn’t need so many drugs when people were allowed to reach for a cigarette or an alcoholic beverage or a donut. Did people successfully use these to reduce anxiety?

Is there an optimal number of deaths from smoking, from drinking and driving? Why is there more obesity and diabetes if donuts are taboo?

Are there undesirable consequences from trying too hard to prevent something? For example, with stricter law about drinking and driving, do people stay home, drink alone, get depressed, drink more, turn to drugs, and even commit suicide?

What about tobacco? Did we lose something there?

The road to Hell is paved with good intentions by fools. Were those fools seduced by people with evil intentions?

Every action has consequences. Did you ever consider the consequences of a war on smoking?

Did people use tobacco to control their eating? Their weight? Is there a trade off between lung cancer on one hand and obesity, diabetes, and kidney failure on the other? Have respiratory problems gone down?

Can cigarette smoke in a room convey important data to you?

We were a more civil society when ashtrays were everywhere.

Healthier too. No begging for ObamaCare.

Not all the mental cases and homeless.

Yes, it’s all connected.

School shootings too.

(Some repetition).

We were more civil and even healthier when there were ashtrays everywhere. There’s a very good reason for this.

The war against smoking was not for better health. It had another purpose, a sinister purpose. They knew they couldn’t force tighter buildings with poor ventilation on us if smoking were allowed inside.

Our life expectancy is declining. Our past better health and longevity was created by men and women who just wanted their smokes and drinks while they worked to build a better America.

America is now being dismantled by nasty males and females, not men and women, who have found a way to make their fellow citizens, especially children, sick, dumb, fat, crazy, violent, and criminal, so they can take more.

Munchausen Syndrome By Proxy.

Knowing 4 people that died earlier than stats would predict, from life long smoking. We weren’t healthier with smoking. Obamas healthcare was a public blunder and a horrible model for health insurance. He remains an embarrassment for that. Tobacco companies went in to the processed food business. One poison for another.

The Washington climate commitment act, CCA, is the funding source for the Transit Support Grant program, which is a key component of the Move Ahead Washington transportation package.

The grant is tied to the Youth Ride Free policy, and uses CCA funds to provide free fares for riders 18 and under.

How Clallam Transit was able to morph this into everyone rides for free is information I'm unaware of.

Edit:

The primary funding source covering Clallam Transit System's free fare program is a state grant from the Move Ahead Washington transportation package.

Here are the key funding details for the zero-fare program:

* Initial Funding: The one-year pilot program, which started on January 1, 2024, was funded by a $1.9 million Move Ahead Washington grant from the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT).

* Ongoing Eligibility: To remain eligible for the state's Transit Support Grant program (part of Move Ahead Washington), transit agencies must maintain a zero-fare policy for riders 18 and under. Clallam Transit met this and other requirements, which helped fund the broader zero-fare initiative.

The majority of the Clallam Transit System's overall revenue (about 80%) comes from a county-wide sales tax of 0.3 percent of one cent, which covers their general operating costs. The state grant specifically helped eliminate the revenue lost from collecting fares, which historically accounted for a relatively small percentage (about 4%) of their total revenue.

There is no FREE RIDE. Who pays the driver? Who pays to maintain the equipment? Who pays the director? Etc.? Everyone except those who use the service. Now I’m sure to be called heartless. Not so. As others have posted, unintended consequences can result When quantifiable matrix are not demanded to measure success. When only a miniscule percent of citizens benefit from a policy, and also then contribute nothing to the rest of society, how is that equitable. FREE RIDE costs society with increased policing, increased maintenance and cleaning of equipment, increased threat to driver and passenger safety, and on and on. So, when do ‘leaders’ decide that a policy is failing? Can they admit to making a mistake? Or, do they just want to pander to those that will appoint them to a board, feed their ego, and feather their nest.

Clallam county commissioners are as bad as Ferguson, crooked, corrupt criminals. Filling their pockets with middle class Americans money. On the transit board, NGO boards, clallam commissioners, same faces over and over. Disgusting corrupt thieves enriching themselves and their crony buddies. Sickening at best.
