County staff hosted a booth at the “family-friendly” event that appeared to provide safe-sex materials, oral contraceptives, and boxes of the morning-after pill.
Who authorized the department's involvement, and what criteria are used to determine which events are appropriate for county staff to participate in?
Does the Board of Commissioners believe it is appropriate for a taxpayer-funded county department to participate in events where political or ideological advocacy groups are present? If so, where does the County draw the line to ensure it remains politically neutral while serving all residents?
I am so tired of people being labeled as LGTBQ+. We are all people and sexual preference should not be the judgement of special rights or programs. The left is fear mongering this as a political boom to their beliefs. They could care less as long as u vote blue. We all should live our lives in a lawful polite way and treat everyone equal. When we shift the burden of personal responsibility from the individual onto the public, we strip agency from the individual and migrate it to the collective. Reducing the individual to a dependent of a centralized system which destroys personal responsibility and personal agency.
But this process happens within activist groups themselves! Whenever agency moves from the individual to a collective, authoritarian tendencies emerge (the more extreme the persuasion, the more the centralization). When individuals give up their independent judgment to a central ideology, they abandon personal responsibility. This surrender is the exact mechanism that breeds tribalism. Instead of thinking critically, members adopt the beliefs of the group (whether or not they recognize it), eroding the feedback loops that keep people grounded in reality.
As the group identity hardens, the group becomes highly susceptible to groupthink and mass formation psychosis. Carl Jung warned about this psychological collapse: when people are reduced to mere units of an ideological movement, they are easily swept up in collective pathologies. He saw it first hand during the mid-20th century atrocities. The group stops being a collection of free-thinking citizens and transforms into a rigid system where ideological purity replaces individual agency.
From the outside, it seems like everyone inside is nutso. From the inside, everyone outside seems insane. Sound familiar?
Our republic was designed to prevent this centralization through deep checks and balances. The founders knew that migrating agency to a bureaucratic node inevitably leads to (a) systemic dysfunction or (b) authoritarian overreach.
Fortunately, a county isn't a closed system. Citizens remain a powerful fail-safe: the ultimate individualized agency to vote out dysfunctional leadership or relocate their resources before this localized collectivism collapses the community...if the vote is true. Which is why I'm an advocate of paper ballots counted by the people and not by machines.
My role, I think, is to try to explain the mechanism clearly, so we can see what's happening. All groups are susceptible. It's why teaching and learning critical thinking skills is so important. We must all have the humility to ask ourselves, "How am I being blinded by groupthink?" And deeper yet, "How does my sin incapacitate my ability to think clearly?"

In my youth, that community sustained me while I, in turn, helped care for elders facing catastrophic illnesses like cancer.
I am horrified to see this life-saving norm now being flipped and weaponized. We are witnessing an LGBTQ+ elder—someone who notably did not experience the same type of isolation many of us faced, but rather benefited from deep-rooted, networked support—doxxing and targeting our youth. It is time for those within his circle to take responsibility and provide guidance, rather than enabling this harm through silence.

The young people at Sisterland Farms and other local entrepreneurs have built a widespread, life-saving support network for Clallam County that never existed before. Today, these young folks are largely raising themselves. I am now an elder, and I refuse to remain silent while they are harassed. I am speaking out to ensure they know they are seen, brave, and loved.
These youth are being exploited for political gain. This campaign, which relies on weaponizing disgust as a political wedge, has nothing to do with them personally. It is an extension of an election strategy launched in 2022—promoted by figures like Christopher Rufo of the Manhattan Institute—to use "Radical Gender Theory" in the same way critics previously weaponized "Critical Race Theory." It is a manufactured wedge designed to divide, and it is being pushed locally by political actors and mailers targeting right-leaning voters. It is heartbreaking to see local dollars and energy drained by these activists—who profit from stirring up fear—while these young people are out here building our economy, growing food, and feeding the hungry.

The LGBTQIA+ community already enjoys protections under civil rights and employment law. No one should face discrimination or violence simply for who they are. Most people reject harm against them and support basic fairness and safety. Not everybody wants to send them to Hitler's office with a blindfold and a cigarette.
But you have to separate everyday individuals that want to live peacefully from radical political factions that have escalated far beyond advocacy. Political Actions linked to far-left activist groups, including "Transtifa" elements, have moved from protests into serious violence: unauthorized occupations of public spaces, assaults on officers and bystanders, and in some cases climbing onto rooftops to shoot at political enemies. They increasingly wear such extremism openly.
Events at Seattle’s Cal Anderson Park are emblematic. Occupying public areas, clashing with police, and targeting people wearing red hats or attending opposing rallies goes well beyond a fight for rights. Beating opponents for their political views—or worse—is thuggery that destroys public trust, alienates allies, and ruins any moral or political momentum.
Public spaces belong to everyone and must remain safe, open, and accessible. Ideological intolerance that intimidates, occupies, or attempts to eliminate opposing voices undermines the foundations of a free society. I think both sides use outrage in political debates. But it can be tough when someone calls you on your outrage. My comment about not being sent to Hitler's office with a blindfold and cigarette obviously downplayed her outrage. I was trying to point out that a "life saving" can't happen when being fed national outrage locally. Which she does by bringing up Christopher Rufo. She just doesn't want to look at any other national lens and thus got offended by my reasoned attack on her outrage.

When we shift the burden of personal responsibility from the individual onto the public, we strip agency from the individual and migrate it to the collective. Reducing the individual to a dependent of a centralized system which destroys personal responsibility and personal agency.
But this process happens within activist groups themselves! Whenever agency moves from the individual to a collective, authoritarian tendencies emerge (the more extreme the persuasion, the more the centralization). When individuals give up their independent judgment to a central ideology, they abandon personal responsibility. This surrender is the exact mechanism that breeds tribalism. Instead of thinking critically, members adopt the beliefs of the group (whether or not they recognize it), eroding the feedback loops that keep people grounded in reality.
As the group identity hardens, the group becomes highly susceptible to groupthink and mass formation psychosis. Carl Jung warned about this psychological collapse: when people are reduced to mere units of an ideological movement, they are easily swept up in collective pathologies. He saw it first hand during the mid-20th century atrocities. The group stops being a collection of free-thinking citizens and transforms into a rigid system where ideological purity replaces individual agency.
From the outside, it seems like everyone inside is nutso. From the inside, everyone outside seems insane. Sound familiar?
Our republic was designed to prevent this centralization through deep checks and balances. The founders knew that migrating agency to a bureaucratic node inevitably leads to (a) systemic dysfunction or (b) authoritarian overreach.
Fortunately, a county isn't a closed system. Citizens remain a powerful fail-safe: the ultimate individualized agency to vote out dysfunctional leadership or relocate their resources before this localized collectivism collapses the community...if the vote is true. Which is why I'm an advocate of paper ballots counted by the people and not by machines.

Makes me want to move to a red state or at least to a moderate/red area within a blue state like Grays Harbor. Lefty groups are always good at organizing and forming interlocking collectives or directorates.
As a member of the LGBTQ+ community over 50, I have long benefited from our tradition of "chosen family." Over 20 years ago, during a life-threatening crisis, I found this support through a community website and a Jefferson County mailing list. Because our community often faces high rates of estrangement and disinheritance, we have historically acted as family to one another; human connection is literally what keeps us alive. In my youth, that community sustained me while I, in turn, helped care for elders facing catastrophic illnesses like cancer.
I am horrified to see this life-saving norm now being flipped and weaponized. We are witnessing an LGBTQ+ elder—someone who notably did not experience the same type of isolation many of us faced, but rather benefited from deep-rooted, networked support—doxxing and targeting our youth. It is time for those within his circle to take responsibility and provide guidance, rather than enabling this harm through silence.
We in the LGBTQIA+ community often share the burdens of complex trauma and rejection sensitivity. Pride is fundamentally about community care and survival. The young people at Sisterland Farms and other local entrepreneurs have built a widespread, life-saving support network for Clallam County that never existed before. Our previous generation of elders taught us to hold hands and never let anyone struggle alone. They supported our businesses, bought our art, and encouraged our growth. Today, these young folks are largely raising themselves. I am now an elder, and I refuse to remain silent while they are harassed. I am speaking out to ensure they know they are seen, brave, and loved.
These youth are being exploited for political gain. This campaign, which relies on weaponizing disgust as a political wedge, has nothing to do with them personally. It is an extension of an election strategy launched in 2022—promoted by figures like Christopher Rufo of the Manhattan Institute—to use "Radical Gender Theory" in the same way critics previously weaponized "Critical Race Theory." It is a manufactured wedge designed to divide, and it is being pushed locally by political actors and mailers targeting right-leaning voters. It is heartbreaking to see local dollars and energy drained by these activists—who profit from stirring up fear—while these young people are out here building our economy, growing food, and feeding the hungry.
As someone who worked as a lonely, neurodivergent farm worker in my youth, I know how grueling that labor is and how easy it is for the mind to ruminate in isolation. I am incredibly proud of how you are taking care of one another and creating your own income and family.
I am sorry that you haven’t received the same level of elder support that I did. I see your bravery in choosing to be out and visible—an act that is life-saving, even if it is currently being exploited. The LGBTQIA+ community already enjoys protections under civil rights and employment law. No one should face discrimination or violence simply for who they are. Most people reject harm against them and support basic fairness and safety. Not everybody wants to send them to Hitler's office with a blindfold and a cigarette.
But you have to separate everyday individuals that want to live peacefully from radical political factions that have escalated far beyond advocacy. Political Actions linked to far-left activist groups, including "Transtifa" elements, have moved from protests into serious violence: unauthorized occupations of public spaces, assaults on officers and bystanders, and in some cases climbing onto rooftops to shoot at political enemies. They increasingly wear such extremism openly.
Events at Seattle’s Cal Anderson Park are emblematic. Occupying public areas, clashing with police, and targeting people wearing red hats or attending opposing rallies goes well beyond a fight for rights. Beating opponents for their political views—or worse—is thuggery that destroys public trust, alienates allies, and ruins any moral or political momentum.
Public spaces belong to everyone and must remain safe, open, and accessible. Ideological intolerance that intimidates, occupies, or attempts to eliminate opposing voices undermines the foundations of a free society. Political violence from any faction—whether street-level assaults or targeted attacks must be condemned unequivocally.
If we want true progress, we must demand commitment to the rule of law, public safety, and open dialogue. Everyday citizens of all backgrounds, including in the LGBTQIA+ community, deserve protection from discrimination.
Radical actors deserve accountability when their actions cross into lawlessness. Only by drawing this line clearly can we protect individual rights without descending into chaos.

My comments were about your political abuse of Native single mother holding political office using an historic denial of civil right to hold office, US citizenship and vote. It began with me speaking out for my LGBTQIA+ community. Let's focus on the facts of the abuse, rather than bringing presidential politics into a conversation about basic human dignity. I completely agree with you. At the end of the day, quality and hard work are what matter most in business, and a farmer’s skill is independent of their personal life. The reason for these specific community groups isn't to say one deserves more credit, but rather to provide a space for people who have historically faced unique hurdles, like access to capital or networking, to share resources and support one another in navigating those challenges.

I have found this shocking considering how ladylike and articulate you are during public comments. Why are they funneling locals and their charitable contributions to out of area charitable organizations promoting 30+ year old conspiracies? I think both sides use outrage in political debates. But it can be tough when someone calls you on your outrage. My comment about not being sent to Hitler's office with a blindfold and cigarette obviously downplayed her outrage. I was trying to point out that a "life saving" can't happen when being fed national outrage locally. Which she does by bringing up Christopher Rufo. She just doesn't want to look at any other national lens and thus got offended by my reasoned attack on her outrage.
While her comment about estrangement and disinheritance is true, there are many parents who did not act with estrangement and disinheritance. But to challenge that upends the outrage she has built her theory on.
The problem is outage is all most of us know because that is what is pushed in our faces. The problem is also that the Sisterland probably conduct themselves like she does.
