Pro Tips: Bring a stadium cushion for the aluminum bleachers set up for viewing. The metal seats will defeat any long underwear in about 5 minutes. Bring $1.00 bills and an insulated mug for the very inexpensive coco, coffee or tea. Have a blast watching kids be kids!
What a nice activity for the whole family! Thank you to the volunteers who helped make the ice rink a success. They deserve positive publicity. Thank you, Jeff, for the smile every reader will be wearing today, especially on this beautiful spring day.
I’ve got two kudos & we will definitely be going this winter….sounds like fun & it wouldn’t be possible without the planning & many volunteers who made it all happen. Thanks Jeff for featuring this wonderful asset that benefits our community.
Putting a smile on this face and brings home the saying “if you build it they will come"…. All of the hearts and souls that lent a hand won the day! Thanks Jeff!
My wife and I always enjoy taking our son to ice skate when the ice village is operating. It's a really great time, and we love it! This past winter was the first time I volunteered, and it was way more fun than I expected. We need more things like this!
Its a little sad because they said the Lake Dawn Ice Rink was "too expensive" to operate. Yet its in a higher at 1800 in elevation. Now they have it downtown which is cool, but not like the old days when Lake Dawn and the ski resort were both functioning at the same time. I have heard its a bummer up on the ridge now with no place to warm up and drink cocoa or grab something since the Resort burned down. I suspect the ski lift is on borrowed time. I wish they would let the volunteers get something going up there. It would put heads in beds like the chamber likes to say.
Yeah and no follow up on what caused the lodge to burn...all that fire science they just can't say. Can anyone say D.E.W.?
There have been a few brave souls (firefighters) who have come forth about the bizarre fires which utterly consume buildings but leave plastic swingsets and green shrubbery intact...also things colored blue and/or white...the voices have been censored because no one wants to believe that kind of device exists or would be used for such nefarious purposes. Conspiracy realism 101.🤠 Glad people had fun at ice rink...The $86,000 profit could only have happened through the volunteers so it's not pure profit...someone gave something and the rink profited. No 'free' lunches... even eggs and fruit require another being to provide it to/for us at their own 'labor'. Keepin' it real.😊
Skating of any fashion is great aerobic exercise, also maintaining motor skills and balance. We skated at Lake Dawn back in the early 1960s and had a blast, also at the roller skating rink that was located where the Peninsula Daily News warehouse currently sits. P.A. lost it's way after the gas explosion and fire in the downtown area, in the late '60s and 1971, with the social core areas evaporating, and little constructive entertainment remaining for all ages. The Winter Village is a great idea, and has potential to be developed into a permanent roller and ice skating venue, along with other activities incorporated as well. I skated the Waterfront Trail, daily, during the 1990s and into early 2000s, enjoying the fresh air and seasonal changes, picking up trash, and taking a rest on the gifted memorial benches that were arbitrarily removed in 2018 just prior to the plandemic. I applaud all those who have contributed to revitalizing the downtown area, and our "identity", with the restoration of the No. 4 Rayonier Locomotive, as well. In view of all the negative aspects that occur, Thanks for a ray of light and positive growth, Jeff.
Congratulations to Port Angeles and all those who helped make the ice rink. Imagine trying to make this happen via our elected officials. Kids being kids is an important joy.
This is the cure! Not Taxes.
We've enjoyed watching our grand kids skate.

Isn't it wonderful to watch kids be kids!
Grandkids are Gods reward after the stress of being a parent.

For sure!

Volunteers are the real pillars of community. Hats off and thank you.
I applaud those with stronger ankles than mine! Kudos!!

You're welcome, Paula.

Thank you for volunteering. You did way more than help get a few families into skates. We applaud you.
Thanks for writing this. I had no idea the economic impact was so great. We really do need more stuff like this for families to do together.
Its nice to have volunteers help the community.

Anytime!

Need similar things all year round

Speaking of hotels, still waiting on the LEKT to build theirs in downtown Port Angeles next to the ice rink site. Five years and no hotel.
COVID video killed the hotel radio star. They have to take out a few hotels with a fish culvert going up a mountain first..
How utterly refreshing! Government working FOR us instead of AGAINST us.
Thanks to all the wonderful volunteers! And thank you Jeff for drawing attention to this very uplifting and positive story.
You're welcome!
