Why in god’s name would the county want to create a new “nice to have” position when it is already releasing other personnel and other core programs — like NOLS — are allegedly looking at funding shortages? No, no, no, no, no!

Totally agree Mark. Big Government (even in a small county) often becomes unwieldy. In a County of @70,000 I believe less Government will produce a higher quality of life.

Keep the minutes "short and sweet" = don't inform the public

I’m not doing this, how about that” = childish temper tantrum for not getting her way

Make it sound simple and inexpensive = it'll be confusing and cost a fortune

Total information awareness person about water = huh??

This is something the county wants; you need to do it = we don't care what the public wants

That they have to listen to that because this meeting is really about them,” = the public might ask important questions the tribe won't want to hear

Attending these CRC meetings and seeing and hearing all of the Commissioners, I now trust only a couple of members to do the right thing. What was understood to be a conduit for the people's voices, has now become a clique for special interest groups. These Committees are not forthcoming in transparency, and it's not because of fear of being criticized. It's because the members don't want the truth to be public. Slick euphemisms don't make you more intelligent; they make you a liar, because the intent is to deceive. I don't blame Comm. Morris for feeling frustrated. These Commttees pander to special interest groups, so therefore, any attempt to inform and involve the entire Clallam County populace is now quelled. Thank you, Jeff, for reporting on very important community issues when other news sources cower to do so.

Compare the requests for a true ethics program that benefits every citizen in Clallam County to a undefinable water steward promulgated by environmental activists and their control freak leader. Pickett's history is clear, just read the link to the article provided. It looks like he moved out here after being exposed in Thurston county to wreak havoc on us next.

We're in a tax crisis and they have the gal to recommend a tax boondoggle?

Charter review water commission committee, water steward committee, irrigation committee,,public works committee, ect ect ect. Water issues used to be administered by public works without all these B.S. committee's and water was cheap, now ignorant lazy asses want more committee's by raising taxes to pay for more B.S.water stewards that sit around creating new taxes-raising rates.Clallam County is being taken over by incompetents that require more tax $$$ to support more incompetents. These B.S.water activist are trying to create public hysteria water issues to justify their unnecessary jobs. The more radical libtards on the payroll the more problems these jackass idiots create.

Wow, caught a good part of the meeting, listening while also working, meaning to go back and listen to it all. After reading this article, clearly I didnt hear enough. I sent an email to the commissioners asking why it wasn't being recorded as the BOCC meetings are. I have been able to save a transcript to read later when recorded by Zoom. It just wasn't recorded in that manner. There is just so much, how do we have the time? Thank you Jeff for reporting!

It's the shadowy business that's unsettling.

RCW 42.30.010

"The legislature finds and declares that all public commissions, boards, councils, committees, subcommittees, departments, divisions, offices, and all other public agencies of this state and subdivisions thereof exist to aid in the conduct of the people's business. It is the intent of this chapter that their actions be taken openly and that their deliberations be conducted openly."

In the typical fashion of socialistic ideology, "creating problems where none previously existed" to illustrate leadership and progress that was never requested by taxpayer-constituents in the first place. During my years working at Olympic National Park, posters began to circulate from a mysterious source, who was placing them on bulletin boards or casually leaving them in conspicuous places, on desks, or in offices all over the park; it read as follows. "We trained hard, performed well, but it seemed that everytime we were beginning to form up into teams, we were reorganized. I was to learn later in life that we tend to meet any new situation by reorganizing, and what a wonderful method it can be for creating the illusion of progress, while actually producing confusion, inefficiency and demoralization." Needless to say, ONP Management wanted to find the culprit disseminating such propaganda, spurring a scourge of rational thinking, which continued for a few years. A few years prior to my retirement, I finally came clean, and apparently my humor had been misconstrued. I had witnesssed cohesion in the ranks, and a boost in morale during my experiment, with people being really curious as to the source and joking about the truth of the matter. The lesson that I walked away with from this drill, was how quickly one can be blackballed by presenting accurate reason and deduction, and how humor is perceived to be threatening to nefarious agendas and their leadership, for their own personal gain. In hindsight, I guess I am guilty of the same; I enjoyed the positive reactions of fellow employees, but no one paid higher taxes as a result.

Just to be clear- this area had a water problem when it was settled. That's why the irrigation ditches were dug- the open ditches are why this area is green and beautiful. If water is an issue then absolutely no developments should be allowed to move forward. Period. I like that they've admitted that piping in the ditches has caused an issue- guess who told them that was gonna happen!? Every farmer out here. We got laughed at, brushed off, shoved aside, or ignored.

It seems you and I have access to have a civil discussion, and I appreciate it and you being able to express your views. The 1st amendment doesn’t say everything will always be cordial. Just that you have the right to put it out in the ether. Jeff started up his own substack, and I encourage you to do the same. People will listen. I prefer Daily Wire and News Max, to be honest. But I don’t discount what other people are saying because I like to have all the facts available to me before I come up with a conclusion that seems reasonable to me. Just my opinion, nothing else.

Unless and until bridles are established for area development and population increases, a water steward may be a good idea. Human population is an under appreciated and inadequately discussed challenge. Whether it be by area or globally; human populations and all other life forms are inversely proportional. The primary requirement for most all life is water. Us humans are disproportionately big water consumers; not only using it for body sustenance, but for farming and sanitation. While it is relatively abundant on the Olympic Peninsula, there is no assurance it will always be. You need only look at the water rights and availability challenges of the Southwest U.S. to get a snap shot of future possible challenges. My water priority would be to insure that no private person or entity can end up owning exclusive rights to water to then sell water to those without water rights. I see water availability and conservation secondary to water rights. Once it cannot be privatized we can then go about determining distribution and conservation.

I don't want to hear about hiring a so-called water steward, a position we can't afford with a budget shortfall. I don't want to listen to how there's a shortage of water and we have to meter more and control watering, build a reservoir and all the rest. Convince me (us) we have enough water to sustain those already here AND build several hundred new homes. We don't need "affordable homes for working folks" when we aren't doing anything to bring in more jobs to sustain that growth. And I don't want to hear about adding more exempt properties to our tax roles. There is no justification for tax free living in the county. No free rides and certainly none for entities making millions annually. We don't need yet another payroll position or another committee. We need county officials who invite and allow public comments, who hide nothing, and come to public open meetings to put their cards on the table - all the cards, not just those that hide the involvement of special interests or NGO holdings. Until we have at least this much county correction I say NO more hiring,. NO more levy votes, and NO more tax increases without our vote. County officials are elected by the citizens of the county and paid by taxpayers. And we need to continue hearing from those seeking the truth and keep pressure on to sound the alarms. Thank you, Jeff, for your part in sounding the alarms.

Listen to the May 1 meeting. Thank you Jeff for an accurate and excellent exposure of what some charter commission members and their undisclosed expert professionals do not want us to know. Any real journalist that chose to reveal it would report the same.

The orchestration by these and their self proclaimed experts must be met with a passionate response of the people and if we have to riot in the streets, well that's a good thing according to Commissioner French. I don't agree with his approval of damaging property to do so, but there is no greater issue than silencing our voices and refusing us to hear theirs than seizing our water or its systems and consequently our livelihoods to do so.

We tossed the tea in the harbor 250 years ago, get your water buckets ready.
