The Jamestown Corporation's own comprehensive plan lays out a long-term strategy for land acquisition, development, and sovereignty—spanning hundreds of square miles
The commissioners did not answer the last email asking who they believe is their primary responsibility to represent. Here is today's question:
Dear Commissioners,
At Monday’s work session, you will be discussing the BIA letter and the possible transfer of the Dungeness and Protection Island wildlife refuges to the Jamestown Corporation.
I have a simple question as you head into the work session: who are you representing in this decision?
The Jamestown Corporation is a sovereign entity, but it’s also a major economic player that operates under a different set of rules than local businesses and taxpayers. In many ways, it’s a direct competitor with Clallam and Jefferson Counties.
So when you’re considering whether to support this transfer, are you prioritizing the interests of county residents who elected you for representation—or those of a separate sovereign government that doesn’t share the same tax base or obligations?
I think that’s something the public deserves a clear answer on.
This is great stuff, Jeff. As I've said repeatedly since moving here, JKT is a competitor, not a partner, with Clallam and Jefferson counties. This should be obvious. As Maya Angelou said years ago, "When someone shows you who they are, believe them the first time." Ron Allen's loyalty is solely to the tribe and its future, and if he breaks a few eggs along the way, so be it. If land acquisition means fewer taxable acres for the county, why should he care? There are wads of federal grant dollars available to him in their place. He is masterfully playing the area's useful idiots like a Stradivarius.
Some simple minded elected now days are so easily manipulated by so called sovereign nations, rumor has it all it takes is just hand out free vouchers for entertainment, sporting, gaming, restaurants, campaign $$$ ect ect ect.
Jeff great article on the land trusts taking our tax $ away. BUT another loss on the $14m Public Safety Project with the city of PA. Outside our county contractors taking our money to Seattle and Tacoma. It would be interesting to see how much actual money is lost on the schools and other projects that the money is not spent here. I am afraid that the Tribal loss would be much lower than the construction $. I do know when I pay my property taxes that I should see it be spent in our county. When do our city officials stop whining about funds and assure us that we are not supporting more of the liberals across the water. My rant for the day as my coffee this AM doesn’t make me feel good but I did spend my money locally.
These are negative economic decisions the erode our business tax base that is so sorely needed. Our government officials keep crying about taxes but when you lose a local worker in the belief you are saving a few dollars on a contract you aren't taking into consideration the overall effect of not only their tax dollars, but the other workers in other industries supporting that worker. Very poor vision from our elected officials.
MK. You are right on! And it was bay few $ that the local GC did not get the job.
It went to the GC that made an error the first bid. Why would you let a GC that screwed up the first bid do another go around. Very sloppy control by PA officials
MK, absolutely it is the Ripple Effect: When an initial disturbance to a system propagates outward to disturb an increasingly larger portion of the system.
The tribe publishes all their 💩, they lobby their 💩, they build really nice 💩 with United States tax dollars, they thrive & are loaded with 💩, yet they hardly pay out any $’s for tax money on their 💩. The American citizens pay for all the tribes 💩, including the use of their 💩 plus all the infrastructure JST is using, schools, roads, utilities, etc. This tax paying citizen is getting real tired of giving 💩 and paying for their 💩. No one has given me 💩 and I’ve managed to make my way through life without being handed free property and other 💩 & I pay taxes to support all kinds of 💩,
Great evidence Jeff. How does Emery contrast or augment the Jkt comprehensive plan?
Or are we to believe that like the NODC , SERN and PSP comprehensive plan ..it has no effect on the one he is working on... I am at the 17th progressively harder level of flubber and magic bean detection.
I read on Monday's My Clallam County that the Sequim protesters numbered 3,700 and PA 500. Who is accurate, SG or MCC? It's a big difference. I think the SG is double dipping.
A very detailed accounting of the actual intent of the JKT that some people have seen and warned about. Thank you, Jeff, for great reporting and providing the documents and highlights. Keep gathering info and sharing it everyone. The more we know, the more we'll be called racists, but that's when they realize we're right.
Obviously, the Sequim Gazette is working hard as an enemy of the local people and ALL Americans and can't be trusted in any way! The blatantly outrageous intentional omission of the real history of our area is appalling, reprehensible, and in fact quite criminal in nature! The ancestors of the Jamestown S'Klallam tribe are nothing but invaders to this area, who ruthlessly slaughtered and enslaved the American Indians who were here LONG before they invaded our area. That means that the Jamestown S'Klallam tribe is no more entitled to this land than anyone else who comes here, as genocidal invaders debatably even less entitled, and "we" need to put an end to this criminal conspiracy that OUR government servants have been engaged in to defraud and rob us of our community, freedom, rights, and property~! I noticed that the disgraced Sequim Gazette also blatantly lies about the BS "no kings" protest attendance numbers! HA! NO WAY were there 4,300 "participants" in the VERY small "no kings" demonstration last weekend!!! Give me a break! There were not even 200 mentally ill demonstrators at most, and if "we" eliminate those who were paid to be there by the nefarious NGOs and other subversive individuals, a most pleasant thought, then the actual number of REAL "protestors" was even less. Thank God for the great folks like Jeff Tozzer, Jake Seegers, Clallamity Jen, The Olympic Herald, and ALL of the many Patriots here who have been doing a great job getting the truth and REAL news out to the community and beyond~! In fact, if "we" (just the local Patriots here in Clallam County) were to make a show of force in Downtown Sequim celebrating our Individual freedom and rights, I would bet that OUR sheer numbers would completely shut Downtown Sequim down to the point that no one could even drive through town for as long as we were just standing there peacefully~! I just happened to be in Sequim a few years ago when I witnessed a very LONG line of vehicles that were engaged in a rolling demonstration of wonderful Patriotism that was most impressive indeed. I had not heard of this demonstration of Patriotic force, and I am not sure who organized it, but it was HUGE and wonderful to see. I don't remember any of the failed local rags that pose as "news sources" that reported on that at all, but my parrot had died by then and I didn't need the bird cage lining in her cage anymore~! We all need to get the word out about the Jamestown S'Klallam tribes' criminal conspiracy with the criminals in our governmental systems here, so that we can make a concerted effort to put an end to this evil takeover of OUR community ASAP~! This is why the "water police" were forced down all of our throats, completely against the will of the vast majority of people here, and it explains exactly what is going on in all of these slimy closed-door meetings behind our backs~!
Yes, we are blessed with many great folks who have come together to fight for Individual freedom and rights~! I have no doubt that we will continue this struggle and the criminals in our midst will rue the day that they decided to betray our community and America~! It will take some time, but these monstrous criminals have left us no choice but to defeat them and purge them from our community~! Enjoy this amazingly beautiful weather and have fun~! ;-)
... Tribe is distinctly divided into three separate bands - The Jamestown. S'Klallam Tribe, the Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe and the PORT GAMBLE S’KLALLAM TRIBE
The Port Gamble S’Klallam Tribe (PGST) is quite active in Jefferson County, with frequent ‘free’ presentations concerning Jefferson Land Trust and the telling of the ‘history’ of the land in Jefferson County. The Jamestown S’Klallam Tribe also has frequent presentations in Jefferson County, all to inform the people that this land is theirs via LAND ACKNOWLEDGMENT.
Vast amounts of funding are pouring in for the success of the PGST Master Plan, including a bypass road going through their reservation land ( see PAGE 5 of site listed below) all to benefit the tribes. The non-tribal citizens will not profit, but have to pay for the “upgrades” of roads and improvement of lands we do not own. I imagine there will be another casino, truck stop(s) and other profitable business funneling traffic to their business endeavors. ALL FOR THE PROFIT OF THEE, NOT WE!
The BIA is facing a significant overhaul, including further staff cuts, during a congressional hearing last week about federal funding for Indigenous communities for fiscal year 2027.
Bureau of Indian Affairs is planning on releasing and implementing a reorganization plan that will make significant cuts to the staff critical in administering programs and distributing funding to tribal nations.
The information comes after a year of intensive reorganization within the Department of Interior that has led to a 11% reduction in the workforce at Indian Affairs
Under President Trump’s leadership, we are prioritizing maximizing resources and enhance operational effectiveness across the organization to cut bureaucratic waste.
THE HONORABLE W. RON ALLEN, TRIBAL CHAIRMAN/CEO JAMESTOWN S’KLALLAM TRIBE submitted to the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Interior, Environment and Related Agencies “2026 Appropriations Testimony for USFWS., BIA/BIE, and IHS” February 26, 2025

$1.14 Million Self-Governance Co-Stewardship Agreement
National Wildlife Refuge Self-Governance Co-Stewardship Agreement – In August of 2024, the Jamestown S’Klallam Tribe and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) established the first Self-Governance Co-Stewardship Agreement in Washington State for the management of two National Wildlife Refuges (NWR(s)), the Dungeness National Wildlife Refuge and Protection Island National Wildlife Refuge. Jamestown has significant historical, cultural, and spiritual connections to these NWR(s) that date back millennia and a vested interest in ensuring the health and vitality of the NWR(s) ecosystems to protect our Treaty rights, culture and livelihoods that are inter-twined with the natural environment. The area that these NWR(s) encompass is part of our ancestral homelands and waterways, and it is critical to the preservation of our oral history, creation stories, language, ceremonies, and culture for future generations. Tribal Nations, in exercising their Self-Governance authority, have developed very sophisticated and comprehensive approaches to implementing programs and services at the local level using holistic techniques, innovative solutions, and partnerships that have proven successful in
leveraging the Federal dollar to yield a higher return on the investment.
Am I reading this right? Allen makes statements that the JST Corporation will maintain and pay for whatever the refuge needs, but that's only possible because we'll still pay for it via the funding request?
What I read is greed and manipulations. There is a real rush for funding money because Trump is chipping away the Double Dipping of funds that the Biden and previous administrations opened up.
What a great expose article. Exactly what the general public needs to know and I mean all the truth. Tired of the propaganda historical soeil JST Corp spoon feeds the softies on the liberal left.
Let's get Ted shouted for ALL to hear and let the public in this county vote on the outcome.
I finally listened to this podcast today. Lots of great comments and topics, especially the PABA meeting updates. So many thanks for all the kind words and promotions you give to my blogs and the Strait Shooter!
Why is Indivisible not protesting against King Ron? Check out the definition of Sovereign: Sovereign refers to possessing supreme, absolute, and independent power or authority, typically describing a monarch (king/queen) or an autonomous state not controlled by outside forces. It signifies the highest authority, self-governing power, or, in finance, debt issued by a national government. I rest my case.
They're just pulling the same crap that they did about 150 years ago, but with modern tactics. Instead of masacre and occupy, they are using grants, legal rights, loopholes, and an excuse of sovereignty to take over. "Strong People", indeed.
When is the federal government going to wake up? Allowing "LandBack initiatives in 2026" "advancing through state-level programs" "to return acreage", "set up stewardship", or "regain stewardship over sacred sites"? "The movement prioritizes Tribal sovereignty and land reconnection, featuring diverse funding sources."
So, this state is allowing it, even promoting it. The feds are delegating it to the states.
Does the government WANT to get paid? They won't be able to collect from these people. Does this mean more shut-downs? More cut-backs? Because the well will run dry.
I'm seriously thinking of moving before it's too late.
Andrea, what state or area of a state would you move to that a Tribe isn't active now in Land Back? It's a movement not just in Wa state but all over. It is more magnified in Clallam County as the Jamestown Tribe jumped the gun on how to write and qualify for funding. The Tribe actually got funding on how to learn to write funding. LaTrish Suggs wrote one and got a HUGE grant of funding about 3 years ago. It's kinda like, if you have a lawyer, you will be more likely to win your case....This Tribe has the know how to get funding and has our money to do it.
I do realize this, I, too, have been researching this. Yes, it seems to be a more concerted effort on the part of JST to shove people out, comparatively. I wonder how this will work for them? With only a few to run the facilities they've created and nothing to attract working residents to the area, who will be left here to run it? Who will come here? If they take over the parks, people will have no reason to come to the beautiful peninsula anymore. Why would they do this to their offspring? These are the ones who will inherit this mess. The only ones who win, again, are these old, boomer, indiginous codgers who will be rich, but leave no meaningful legacy to their children.
As for me, the short of it is: I feel more threatened by this area than in Snoqualmie, where I also have property. I need to simplify. Snoqualmie is likely where I will go. I mean to develop a destination property there. I plan to partially reside there and in the Czech Republic, where I have an appartment and garage. I'm lucky. I have options. This area will lose the services of a good company.
BUT... What are the current residents going to do to stop this money-grubbing juggernaut that threatens our land ownership and/or the ability to afford land ownership in Clallam County? No one will be able to sell their property soon. The tribe has already ruined property value out at 3 Crabs, the Miller Peninsula, and other places where they have been aquiring land and creating issues for local residents that make it hard for them to sell or develope.
My Sequim home (and business) is right at the NW corner of the Dungeness Golf Course, just across the street. They have already aquired a property that is within walking distance of a 90-year-old-man from my home (Nello Pl.) and how many more homes will they shove into higher taxes because the county is desperate for money. Over-inflated home values and assessed values, devaluating the value on the market for ones who want to get a fair market value of their homes... it's just a matter of time.
ANDREA, Question (1) With only a few to run the facilities they've created and nothing to attract working residents to the area, who will be left here to run it?
(A) They are looking into changing their requirements for membership in the tribe. (B) They are funded for building housing, people can be housed by them and pay rent much like the old railroad owned towns. If jobs are available, people will come, but they will own all businesses. You will shop, bank and buy everything from Tribal businesses.
Question (2) I can’t answer about the Snoqualmie Tribe, but maybe more research into their land back will give you an idea of what will happen with property taxes.
I’m happy you have a plan and at the same time sorry you are being forced out. All of this is very emotional for everyone. It’s like a slow moving cancer, painful and hard to watch.
A land grab is a land grab. It is worth noting that JST "members" enjoy both USA citizenship and sovereignty. As USA citizens they already own all public lands equal to all USA citizens. What is a painfully obvious inequity is why a relatively small portion of area citizens do and should enjoy exclusive ownership of otherwise public land. Forgoing political correctness, who your Daddy was don't matter. There are no indigenous peoples living today; NONE. There are those claiming some nebulous genetic or ? claim to "we were here first", but were we and further why does that matter at all ? How many humans, tribes, travelers or inhabitants predated the JST. Take the faulty logic of land back to it's logical conclusion and Homo Habilis now owns the entire planet. Competition for resources and land in it's multiple forms is as old as human existence. So to change the historical result of this competition we are now practicing to the looser the spoils. This country and it's practice is everybody gets a shot at whatever success they aspire to; no matter how many times we might lose. Singling out a small portion of the population for not only full citizenship entitlements, but additional grants, tax advantages, business advantages and more that the rest of the citizens do not enjoy is the antithesis of equal opportunity. Friends and neighbors or sovereign, but not both. I prefer friends and neighbors.
Garry, If that logic follows, then the United States owns the moon:
Neil Alden Armstrong (August 5, 1930 – August 25, 2012) was an American astronaut and aeronautical engineer who, as the commander of the 1969 Apollo 11 mission, became the first person to walk on the Moon.

Clear, concise, and direct. No word salads, ambiguity, or vascillating allowed.

I get confused by some of the language used by local gov't. Is the Tribe a partner, a stakeholder, or both?
I believe the Commissioners would call them Friends With Benefits.

That's a good one. But because he was a military serviceman, he was property of the U.S. gov't.
Denise, does that mean we don't own it? Maybe we can steal it..that's what we do, or so says some ; )
Excellent.
I’m experiencing race/ethnicity burnout.
