If your head is "in the sand" it's time to wake up people.

Today it's 3 Crabs, tomorrow it's Dungeness. Then East and West along the coastline and a 1/2 mile inland.

In a week it's a full blown Casino and Carnival World on the beach. Welcome to the Tribal version of Atlantic City on what used to be your homes!

I think you're heading in the right direction! If these houses are moved, sold off, or abandoned, it does not mean that the land would return to nature, it means control of it would return to some entity, and we all know who!

That's a very interesting distinction. One would think that the confiscation of land would result in it being returned to its natural state because that's altruistically what we're led to believe the tribes are all about. I bet the people would agree, but the tribal corporations have a different take.

Great work Jeff Tozzer~!

This is the evil pattern of the criminals in government~! First announce what you generally intend to do through your paid shill goons, then send out your criminal goons to stir things up and to kick the opposition calling them "conspiracy nuts" and worse, then send out "surveys" so that the suckers can give up their key private information, then use that key private information and the fools own public tax dollars to assault and destroy the poor fools, picking them off one at a time, who later scream that they didn't know what the criminals in government were really up to~! These criminals of humanity always work the same scam to destroy America at all levels. Ha! I was just musing that had any "teacher" ever assaulted me as a student in college, I would have mopped the floor with that criminal and tossed him out into the trash where the fool belonged~! I am a lot older these days, however I am NOT as "forgiving" as I was when I was younger, and I now have a zero-tolerance attitude for treasonous criminals of humanity and bullies~! People have the right to wear a hammer & sickle pin on their clothes if they want, however the American Patriots have the Constitutional duty and personal sworn obligation to make sure that ALL threats to America and Americans are terminated~! Have a nice day~! Sincerely, Mike

The hammer and sickle really triggered me. Hitler killed about 13 million including his own people...

an under achievement compared to Stalin who ran the score up to about another 50 million or so under the Utopia of the Soviet State. But they are both "pikers" compared to Mao who surpassed 90 million deaths over his rule with the forced relocation, destruction of all Chinese History, the great famine and Red Guard. Check your Real Estate Tax Assessment document to see if the term "Buffer" is applied. It will be located in the area of the form that states the parcel size and use. When I noticed the term on our Assessment last year, I took a trip to the Clallam County Courthouse, specifically, the Assessor's Office. I spoke with an employee, asking what the term applied to, and was directed to another employee who could assist in my quest. I was told that the term "Buffer" applied to land that would not be suitable for building, such as marshy, steep-sloped, or an area prone to slides, and that portion of the parcel would be taxed at a different rate, thereby buffering the tax amount. Being rather detail oriented, I asked where that definition and context could be found on our Assessment, assuring that "Buffer" was being applied using that context. The employee stated the term and context are not defined on the document. I emphasized that our Assessment is, in fact, a legal document and that any terms or contexts should be defined and delineated in the event that litigation should occur. The employee then stated that I would need to contact the Washington State Department of Revenue to attain such information, being that they were the entity who mandated that such wording (Buffer) be included in the language on the document. I suggested that the term "Buffer" could be construed to mean an environmental buffer in a different context, to which we agreed, with the employee thanking me for broaching that subject, in the event that it may surface in ensuing conversations, down the road. I demanded that the language be struck from our Assessment, which was done while I observed the key strokes. My point is that these small details are done quietly and without fanfare, akin to the "frog in the pot" scenario and if one does not question such activities, they become Policy. I know how difficult it is to stay abreast of all the details and nuances of political gobbly-gook (as a Math Teacher once termed it) especially when one is working, growing a family, and taking care of routine business. Due dilligence is paramount, with politicians being fully aware of our being borderline overwhelmed, and inability to stay apprised, especially of backroom deals being cut behind closed doors. I have lived with a mantra in my daily thoughts for many years, "Only those who risk going too far will ever know how far one can go"; apparently our politicians have applied this to their covert, nefarious agendas, as well. I am not a Bellman, but I don't mind sharing my experiences when I believe such may be warranted.

Jennifer's avatar

Timothy, there's also "sensitive areas" in the parcel size and use in the terms. Any land along any stream or creek also has a buffer zone. The buffer zone setback has been increased recently along with a buffer zone for "sensitive areas".

Understood, Jennifer. Our property has a 200' set back from Siebert Creek, which was established more than 50 years ago. The powers that be are attempting to negate any grandfathering of such set backs, legal surveys, and water rights, especially water wells and fully functional, maintained gravity septic systems. We have metered our well for over 10 years to establish use against granted water right. Just a quick thought; our 10gpm water right equates to 14,400 gal/day. We have established our water usage @ 76 gpd, overall, for over that 10 year period. Surface water sources (creeks, lakes, rivers) have been under attack by "experts and scientists" for quite some time. We are also located in a MRA, and are under the Dungeness Water Rule. Water is the big issue, for all the various entities and sovereign nations within our Republic; "Sequim, where water is life" is not just a slogan for the once-relevant Irrigation Festival, it's a fact. The Assessor, via WDR(revenue) buffered approximately 1/3 of our and our neighbor's propertes, which I explained is not about reducing taxe, they are using "Buffer" in a benign context, for the moment.

Timothy, the same thing is happening along Morse Creek. Not only in setbacks but also elevation levels. I'm just wondering if they force homes to be moved or abandoned for shoreline properties, will it eventually find its way to to homes along creeks, lakes and rivers? AND of course water rights! Seems anything you want to do along water is always punted from WDFW back to the Tribes approval. Why? Because of the fish! Fish that they are decimating.

In Re; Morse Creek: The entire valley flooded in the mid 1960s, with the creek taking down a very large barn on the on the farm where Four Seasons Ranch development currently stands. Our family parked the car at a gravel pit where Westport Yachts Cabinet and Woodworking Shop is (formerly the "old" WalMart site), and watched Morse Creek chew that barn to the ground. Within short order, the ranch was subdivided, with a golf course and clubhouse built, and houses began popping up on the flood plain. A bridge was planned to span Morse Creek over the top of the entire valley, with no dip, about that same time, with a bypass through Lauridsen Blvd around the downtown area of Port Angeles, like Sequim is currently. You are correct in asserting that any homes/buildings on flood plains, lake properties, river or creek frontages will be the targets of Tribes and their supporters, under the guise of "saving the fish", with the "retreating" process. It is almost as though the push is symbolic of the tribes, and their perceived retreats from their former homes, not land, which Indians have said all-along, that "no one owns the land, sky, mountains, oceans, lakes, rivers and streams, nor any living things or organisms that inhabit those areas." That is why true Indians thanked the Creator everytime they harvested anything from that realm for their own sustenance. Our family, as with many, many others, possess North American Indian heritage, but do not take any reparations or compensation of any form, other than the knowledge and respect for the world we live in, passed from generation to generation. I recall my elders stating very matter-of-factly, that the Olympic Peninsula will all be within, and a part of Olympic National Park, when all is said and done. I realized long ago, that I am a steward of my earned values; that which I acquire through my knowledge and physical labor. Being a realist, I will die the same as I came into this world, naked and alone, traveling light.

Robert's avatar

I would only disagree about the concept of 'ownership'...the various tribes vigorously defended 'their' territories from 'others'.

They may have been grateful for sustenance and abundance (which ebbed and flowed as per M\Nature) but they tolerated no encroachment by 'others'. It wasn't all peace and harmony😊!

Timothy, thank you for the history, it is interesting to hear from people who know the people and area intimately.

I know about the flooding, but I believe it was due to farmers changing the course of Morse Creek miles upstream from 4 Seasons Park (not 4 Seasons Ranch) It has since been restored to it's original course and some sort of a hydraulic station removed.

I completely believe we all should be stewards of our lands and water, not confined to a tribal decision. We are in this together and should work together to share our lands and water equally. Thank you for your replies. : )

Four Seasons Ranch was north of Highway 101, and Four Seasons Park was south when they were developed. The locals used to joke about Four Seasons Ranch being the "high rent district" due to the clubhouse and golf course. Logic and reason dictates that the width of the valley floor was caused by a meandering creek, which I have seen appearing more of a river many times. We also had winters in the 1950s and early 1960s where up to 3' of snow covered the ground in Port Angeles for weeks at a time, so the Spring thaws created some extensive flooding and a muddy mess with dirt streets. I have never heard of the upstream farmer creek diversion story as being responsible for the flood that took out the large barn There was a hydroelectric dam and domestic water system intake upstream at the time of the flood, but there were no farms that abutted the creek to my knowledge, with Olympic National Park Boundary not that far upstream as the crow flys. We knew the farmers pretty well, in order to traverse their land when we fished the creek and shot the breeze with them on occasion. The possibility of a Morse Creek flood is still very real, with weather such as we had years ago, and rapid Spring thaws, as the hydro plant is gone, serving much the same as the Elwha Dams that once controlled flooding there. The earth and weather aren't static, for certain.

Morse Cr., as many others in our region is deeply incised (by Nature) and prone to relatively massive slides which dam up and burst forth periodically in geologic time.

Not saying the mentioned flood wasn't triggered by human activity but that doesn't mean similar events wouldn't happen anyway.

We are in a geologically unstable and active region as is much of the planet.

We take our chances where we choose to 'set up camp' but it doesn't justify tyrannical gov'ts controlling everything.

The hammer and sickle lapel pen seen on Washington State University school of politics philosophy and public affairs instructor Patrick Mahoney says it very well.

Dear Charter Commissioners

One week ago, the Chairwoman of the Clallam County Charter Review Committe Susan Fisch, her girlfriend and fellow member of the Clallam County League of Women Voters (but otherwise not associated with the Charter Review Committee) Sequim School Board member Patricia Johnston, their Confidant on the Charter Review Committe Commissioner James Stoffer and four other misguided individuals continued their out of scope, unfounded, and peronal attack on an individual Charter Review Commissioner they continue to attack and attempt to remove from the Charter Commission soley for their selfish, personal, and inappropriate reasons that are blatantly outside the non-partisan foundation of the Charter Commission. Fortunately for the goodness in true justice, they failed on multiple votes last Monday and are left with no continued attempts left under their contrived personal attacks within the committee to coninue their foley which has been a detriment to any real work coming out of this Committee in 2025 and has only succeeded in dividing and separating the crediabiity of this proclaimed non-partisan elected committee. This seven-party bad behavior has also divided the public view of the effectiveness of this committee as well as the committee itself. It has also brought into question the continuation of this committee as it sits today.

Despite this stunning defeat of non-integrity driven behavior of this non-partisan committee, another unfounded lie was used by the same individuals to attempt other lies and discredited attacks on the same Committe Commissioner The League of Women Voters attempted to remove from the Charter Committe despite their abject failure last Monday night. Having been rebuked by The Grange and the church on other occasions to have this Charter Commisioner removed from these organizations, Charter Commissioner James Stoffer lied again to the Church in his second attempt to have this Charter Commissioner removed from the church with a series of lies that were called out and Commissioner James Stoffer was told to stand down. How can this illicit and illegl behavior continue inside or outside the Charter Committe by these rogue and wrong individuals continue un-thwarted? At the very least the Chairwoman should be replaced and the outside influence of the non-elected partisan Clallam County League of Women Voters influence removed from the Committee.

It is past time that the fair-minded individuals who blocked this coup d'etat within the Clallam County Charter Commission in an attempt to actually focus on the work they were elected to perform, remove the partisan internal and external pressure, and attempt to produce the product this divided and mis-focused committee is running out of time to complete.
