The tribe needs to be forced out of sovereignty. They are simply a race based money laundering machine bending over hard working taxpayers . Their plans help nothing except extending their wealth and reach. We live in troubled times in a severely troubled county in an even more troubled state.

AMEN to that! I've written publicly and to my representatives that this sovereignty has outlived its intended purposes and is now being abused and creating unfair monopolies, not to mention being anti-American, where ALL Americans should equally pay their taxes and abide by the same laws. Perhaps if more people write to their representatives, we might see a welcome change in our lifetimes, but I admit that it's an uphill battle.

It's a nowhere battle...the rep's never see any critical input.

Protests are a joke as far as making any real change...disempowered people protest.

It is a petition to 'your rulers', not a command...that's why they ignore us...the

law' protects them, from us...would be the other way around if we governed from an ethical, moral standard. Inverse world!😱

The state has neutered the peoples ability to create initiatives much the same as the

Kommissars have 'voted' to not have ethical oversite.😱

Just imagine what we would be capable of if we removed or blocked all constraints on our own behavior!😱

There it is in a nutshell.

We have the federal government that wants information when sovereign nations cost citizens rights and or money for their actions. The levee breach is a well documented and preplanned assertion of power against us.

The local level won’t help. Write to the feds and state your complaints. Tribe pays zero - residents pay in taxes. Tribe makes 86 million, residents take out retirement money to pay taxes. Quit being victims people. Enough of this tail wagging the dog. New commissioners needed!BTW: the IRS stands against Tribes not paying taxes and believes they are US citizens that must also contribute.

Jeff, thank you for the details on this Towne Road fiasco. You nailed it, IMHO, when you wrote "It was a systematic failure in intergovernmental coordination.", which was my conclusion as well, reading up until that point. Then, it became a circular firing squad when it came to finger-pointing and should have either been litigated (which would mean a verdict by 2032) or for each of the three entities to take partial blame and each be responsible for 1/3rd of the remedy.

Of course, this is idealism and rarely works this way. Instead, the path of least resistance (taxpayers) becomes the scapegoat. Clearly, this is what happened here. Better communications before action would have prevented it. I hope all three entities have learned a good lesson here.

Why wasn't an injunction filed?

To me that speaks volumes that our Kommissars knew exactly what was happening and didn't want to get in the path of Tribal Supremacy.

I might be showing my ignorance but could a county prosecutor unilaterally take such action, or would the BOCCC have to initiate the matter and present it to him?

Expand full comment

If the BOCC were looking for a legal remedy, their first stop would be the County Prosecutor's office for guidance. That is the county's legal department. The Prosecutor won't just jump up and say "hey, boys, lets go after those guys". (And, I suspect he would sit back and find a thousand reasons why NOT to do it, like all attorneys do. It's a pain in the ass to do anything legal. Slow and FRUSTRATING.) The BOCC would have to put on their big boy pants and be emphatic and decisive (something I don't see 2 of the three EVER doing...even when it comes to sending back a poorly cooked steak in a restaurant). I'm so sick of the wimpy, feeble, spinless and timid "leadership". And, I'm even more sick of the excuses.

A glaring example of the fact that the JKT is a business competing with non-tribal entities for money, power and resources. This is not unique to them, it's the same with tribal entities across the country. County, state and federal officials need to recognize this fact and act accordingly in all dealings with tribal governments instead of kowtowing and laying guilt trips on their constituents while supporting asinine calls for reparations and special treatment. Can't ever see that happening in the feel-good, liberal-controlled state of Washington.

Who got the contract with $15 million in emergency repairs? An example of a spineless County, with no high power legal representation, the big guy is going win you over every time. Many cases with the USACE go to litigation and usually an amicable solution is found. Or at least a financial solution is found. This County just rolls over as the quickest way out. Cracker Jack legal representation is what the residents get in the end.

I like the reparations comment Robert. This is the Clallam County’s version of reparation to the First People, just a different procedure to the wealth redistributed.

The main property redistribution laws in South Africa are encompassed within the country’s land reform program, which includes three key pillars: restitution, redistribution, and land tenure reform.

The legal framework for government-led property expropriation is now governed by the Expropriation Act (2024), which was signed into law in January 2025. This act allows for expropriation of land for public purposes or in the public interest, and—under specific, limited circumstances—permits expropriation without compensation.

Additionally, a new Equitable Access to Land Bill is being developed to further formalize land redistribution policies. The government emphasizes that these laws are designed to address historical injustices and promote equitable access to land, not to arbitrarily seize property.

"Who pays when a sovereign nation makes a mess?". Bottom line is the Tribe did it. The mess maker should pay. If the Tribe can subordinate their damage on the Corp of Engs, that is both their option and responsibility. Let the courts decide who holds responsibility and who does not. Hiding behind whichever skirt best serves, ( sovereignty, the BIA, the Corp of Engs, and/or ? ), is not an option. First sting the mess maker and the mess maker then has the ball.
