I'll reiterate what I stated last week: Mike French is a child, not child-like, but childish. He is the very essence of the arrogant politician, so certain of the righteousness of his cause, advocating violence as the means to bring his cause to fruition, holding in contempt others who disagree with him or who attempt to thwart him. He is not a public servant, but rather a public embarrassment. "Clown County" eh? Then French is the Chief Bozo.
The commissioners won't engage in thoughtful dialog, simply because that would be a waste of their time. They have their marching orders from the NGOs and the tribes, they're bought and paid for, and their masters expect results.
I had forgotten the investigation of Jeff initiated by a commissioner because the commissioner was afraid something might tarnish his reputation. If a person is honest and TRANSPARENT, or not, reputation should be self evident. Another commissioner called me 'rude and aggressive' for asking questions at commissioner meetings. WE THE PEOPLE have been asking for an evening meeting, open to the all the public, for over a year. Still waiting. Two of the commissioners refuse to capitulate to citizen requests for these meetings. I have even offered to pay for the meeting place. NO TAKERS. Hows that for community engagement?
Does talking with those miscreant commissioners really make a difference, when they get their funding from the Tribe and NGOs? There are not enough of us to put fear in their hears like a pissed off Tribe or NGO threatening to cut off funds or even cut off kick-backs. Perhaps we are wasting our time trying to plead our concerns and may be more effective pursuing other means, what I don't know. Maybe we're more effective by focusing on getting more people interested in Clallam County Watchdog. Imagine if the CCD followers comprised a significant part of the electorate? That would put the fear of God in those partisan pieces of ___.
What was the margin that elected these miscreants? THAT is how many people we need to learn the truth, not 50,000. Many already know where these commissioners' loyalty lies, so we just need to reach the uninformed and misinformed. I will support another advertising campaign, and believe that many others will chip in too.
It’s amazing to me that elected officials see themselves as owners of taxpayers funds and as owners can use the money as they see fit for the entities that they favor. They resent being questioned by citizens who have concerns about the direction the money is being spent and projects that affect all of us. Almost utter disdain for the little people, until election time when they paste on smiles and pander with promises and lies.
This philosophy became evident during the Towne Road circus. The commissioners thought they owned the road, and that it was theirs to give away to political donors. They forgot that a century of Clallam County Taxpayers had paid for that road, and that the road belonged to us. The elected leaders don't own roads and laptops, the people do.
Its unfortunate these Commissioners would not just listen to ideas and respond to the emails that contained them. If they thought I would just be ignored or would just go away they were wrong.
Thank you, John. You handled that much better than I would have, and as usual, you have set an example for me to follow. You're an asset, not a liability.
Speech persuades. Discussion educates. Debate sharpens the mind.
The meetings vacillate from public speaking, to discussion to debate. These Commissioners choose who they allow to persuade, educate or sharpen the mind.
BTW John, you are also a treasure to CC! Jeff needs people like you to help lead the effort to ultimately unseat these... I don't even want to finish that sentence, it's just too disgusting to say.
I don't need a service. Make no mistake. I came back here to make a difference in my home town. I tell people my name, share my ideas and try my best to explain why I think I am right.
Right now people hate Jeff more than me simply because he is an outlet for discord. Next door created a want to vent on local issues and Jeff has filled that need superbly. A person only needs to know where the elk herd is so many times.
Just look at the level of discourse that takes place here. Its a level above because there is a free exchange of views here that is unfiltered. I know the mere existence of CC, could chap a few hides, especially the types that think they run the town. You know the types. They brought in the photo mat and the 7-11, so its downhill from them. You saw road house or Bufford Pusser you can't just send an email and stop the bad guy. Something burns down or somebody comes up missing. Or an operative minion with a clever stage name tries to cast any spell they can to discredit or filter the flow and forum.
Its so pathetic. They got beat at their own screen share game, or visual impact effect of the University of Washington chiming in and ended up having to stop all pictures of bad government. Then they trot out the one lady "whirlwind" to confront it. Great illustration Jeff. The public needs to see this stuff.
Excellent! Bravo, Jeff! Pulitzer prize worthy article! It was sad to know (and witness) p that a room full of concerned citizens attending last Tuesday's Board meeting can come together in agreement on a serious county issue, only to have it marred by the prejudice of one individual. You and John are fighting for the course correction desperately need here in CC. Thank you!! Also, there is a group here in PT, PA, and Sequim called Indivisible, which is funded by billionaire George Soros. I believe this is the group holding protests lately.
Very impressive website with its mission statement "To resist all things Trump". Browsing the website lets you see how organized and fully funded this is. If protesting is " your thing" it has a calendar of upcoming events. Maybe with USAID funds drying up it will be more difficult for groups like Indivisible. Although Soros has billions, Soros funded NGO's were fist deep into USAID funding.
1.2 indivisible members in little ole Sequim, all the members wanting higher taxes & everything free yet more and more are hitting the streets because they can’t afford to survive and be productive adults in society. So many living on the edge & there a people who think this is all okay. They think somehow the homeless will be taken care of when they fall into the pit. There are people that give their time & money doing nothing but supporting pit dwellers. The dwellers aren’t being taken care of, more and more homelessness year after year because bandaid handouts aren’t making any difference, homelessness has become worse even in Sequim not better. Soon with all the taxation no one will be able to live on their own without falling into the pit. When taxes & utilities get high things stop, no eating out, no shopping, when money flow slows then taxes are raised again, it’s a vicious cycle. If we don’t find a way to protect those footing the bill, taxpayers, they will not exist and that is what is happening day after day, week after week, month after month, year after year….the problem is the tax increases and the amount of people falling from the payrolls or into the pit is increasing much faster than ever before & the people we elected could care less. It’s not their money, until they are voted out and THEY don’t have any money left to live their life.
It is obvious through the body language from the commissioner's wife that she was verbally aggressive towards you both in the hallway and in the office area. She initially appeared to direct unsolicited comments toward you, interrupting you and your friend's conversation, and then she pointed at you while walking away and shutting a door behind her as she headed into the office area. You calmly entered the office and appear to be asking for her identity, thinking she worked for the county. The commissioner came out with his wife to speak with you. She continued to wave her arms around aggressively while speaking to you. He placed his hand onto his wife's arm a couple times. That gesture appears to be his effort to calm her down. You appeared calm throughout this exchange. It's good you have this on camera because the body language says it all.
I'm sorry to see things so undemocratic in Clallam County. Everyone deserves to be heard with respect and treated fairly. No speaker should be given preferential treatment over another in public meetings. Commissioners should listen respectfully to opponents as well as supporters. We don't want "yes men" dynamics in county decision-making. They need to hear opposing viewpoints from the public.
I believe this article is important. If this negative climate doesn't change in these public meetings then a well-placed ad in the PDN directing people to the online link to watch this video could drive home the point. The public deserves respect and serious consideration from elected officials at all times - not derision and aggression. If this commissioner continues to condone his wife's aggressive behavior towards the public then he needs to be held responsible for it.
I'm thinking that this group would benefit from knowing the cost for the smallest visual ad in the PDN. If you created a visual identity that people recognize with a well designed ad then you could direct people to different issues as they arise. I know that a small ad in the Jeffco Leader costs around $200. This group could collect that amount pretty easily, but you would want to place it in the PDN. I could help if you think this is an idea you want to pursue.
They let Eberlie's wife holler at dissent on Towne Road. The Queen of Mean called out Gayle Baker. They had no problems dishing out the "preaching' when they get up to the podium or on the Zoom.
The finger pointing, a clear illustration someone has lost it. Most people in a disagreement, state their disagreement but she saw fit to leverage the power of her husband's office where she saw safety to display her emotions.
It's common for people to over defend another they care for, where that person is seen as weak and taking it when they should fight.
The mentality of our(?) County Commissioners are that of tyrants; condescending and patronizing, hoping we will present our cases and just go away. I found it entertaining that Lisa Boulware referenced the soapbox scenario, which is precisely the character she portrayed, and represents the Commmissioners. This all reminds me of "Class Officer" elections at Roosevelt Jr. High, which ironically, were held on the same plot before the school was demolished to make way for the new Court, complete with Jester(s). Didn't French get his start on the P.A. City Council, another fine example of a mutual admiration society. I would like to have a conversation with former Commissioner Bill Peach about the closed door meetings, agendas, and "stakeholders" involved. The time to locate our spines and employ them to stand erect is nigh.
I went to the Sheriffs window and stood there for a bit. That should be on camera too. I was going to report the incident but I thought this whole thing is about ideas not personal conflicts. My Jeff Tozzer Towne Road follower instincts took over and I got out of there. :)
Mark Ozias LED the month-long investigation into the Towne Road supporters, facilitating communication and information exchange between the landowners, the Prosecuting Attorney, and the Sheriff. I wonder if he will be leading the investigation into Lisa Boulware's attack on you?
No different from Port Angeles City Council where a council member and his wife both get to hold forth in various roles. Beware, you vigilantes who fight the homeless industrial complex.
Hear, Hear. CCWD keeps growing! It's amazing. When do you sleep Jeff? You don't beg for donations or paid subscriptions but somehow keep going. Your growth on this substack is astounding. I do take my hat off to you and your constant tenacity : )
My time between hair appointments and my rigorous workouts at the gym allows for some desperately needed beauty sleep. 2,376 subscribers and 108,000 monthly visitors make it all worthwhile.
Wow! I do have to comment on your humor. In one of your articles concerning a month long investigation about the Towne Road, a subscriber asked something about your concern for your safety. Your comment was priceless, "I sleep with a glue gun under my pillow" Honestly I burst out laughing.
Time to clean house. But are there people out there who are willing to serve? And are the rest of us ready to demand accountability? THE political question.
I think good, qualified people will step forth for $108,000+. It is a big job, no doubt.
The actual business of the county should be enough to keep them occupied full time.
They apparently have endless energy and time to devote to extra-curricular activities, especially 'Nozias'. Immediate RED Flag for anyone with so many fingers in so many NGO/NPO pies! Rotten and corrupt to the core.
When only a fraction of people even vote there is not a realistic representation of, by and for the people.
We need a voting law that at least 50% of the legal voters must vote to move any significant budgeting or infrastructure issue forward.
That means the 'rulers' would have to ENGAGE with 'The People' regularly and messily in order to create an environment of participation because 'The People' would know they had a say and would participate willingly.
Also need the in-person, paper ballot, hand count, multi-partisan process of balloting.
I'll risk this here: A MAGA-type Republican commissioner candidate will NOT persuade independent voters such as me to fill in the oval on a ballot. Bear that in mind. Nor will I vote for Ozias. Result? Ozias likely wins another term. The county party, like the state GOP, is seemingly bent on completing its self-destruction, based on the quality and allegiances of the candidates it puts forward.
It's a fine discussion point I agree with as far as replacing Ozias. All citizens need to focus on the basics that affect us all and it isn't Trump, DOGE, liberals, etc. That's a losing game.
We saw what happened when a candidate even mentioned Qanon, and it results in being summarily dismissed by anyone who might be moderate that may have voted for someone with a R behind their name.
No one changes their mind by being yelled at or belittled. If anything, don't talk every time you get an impulse, listen. In an argument the opposite of talking isn't listening, it's waiting for a chance to talk again, which means no one is hearing.
There are the "Karens" (naggy, preachy, college-educated liberal white women). Now we are seeing naggy, preachy, college-educated liberal white women who fight their husbands' battles.
You make it sound like being a college educated white woman is a bad thing! I’m proud of my education and don’t want to be labeled as one of those “ Wives” that lose their _hit in public. Clearly very inappropriate behavior. Wonder why she thought that was an idea, much less a good idea?
Clallam counties current commissioners have a sworn duty to the public and their actions are way out of line with their sworn commitments. As a life long 2nd generation resident i see big trouble with our current commissioners and word of mouth is the best way to educate others who not to vote for in upcoming elections. The commissioners high paying salaries would be better suited for people that have better morals & integrity & sworn oath loyality.
Also...clapping and cheering and booing are free-speech issues not to be tamped down or marginalized.
If they have to shut the meeting down to stop us 'free-speeching' then so be it.
I told 'Frenchy' he was not to interfere with FREE SPEECH at a meeting I attended and he was visibly shocked to hear that from the 'audience'. He also backed off from attempting to interfere with free speech.
We are not the 'audience' gathered to hear the wisdom of the rulers.
We ARE THE PEOPLE to whom the 'rulers' should be the 'audience' for.
Agree with Paul about the spoiled, ignorant child analogy.
Anyone who wears a 'cupie' hairdo at his age should be in a playpen in the corner watching and learning how adults behave.
Someone should make a movie about Clallam County government. It’s got all the characters and elements of drama for a blockbuster. At the end, we would wind up with adults making policy based on what’s best for the productive citizens of the county and the county’s fiscal future. That’s why it would be fiction.
I don’t think a movie would get many viewers. Not when real life experiences play out in small town America. It’s not just Clallam County it’s a system gone a muck!
A strapping, young, muscular Airbnb host starts an online local blog only to fall in love with a fiercely independent woman. Problems arise when he realizes she is married to the corrupt politician he has been reporting on. Problems also arise when he remembers he is gay and dislikes spending time with antagonistic, condescending agitators. More problems arise after that, followed by more arising problems.
I had the misfortune of going on a site listed as IXODES. Might be through Substack.
How very immature of the author of a very long editorial to not use a name or a way to respond for us , the readers. Jeff Tozzer is an open book. His information is first hand and checkable. The invisible mouth behind the text proceeded to belittle and undermine comments Mr Toozer made on all subjects back to January. Usually taking one line, out of context and making it appear as a headline. I wonder why people get so over stimulated when it comes to local politics . Then I read that (entirely too long)
complete tear down of a man of integrity and wonder what’s in it for this guy (or group). I will never do that again. I rely on Jeff for reports regarding CC. We don’t live here full time yet. Since the local papers are filled with light weight reading,
Jeff is my source of information. I don’t follow him blindly and would call him out if I thought he missed the context of information. Anyway, I was shocked that someone or thing (AI) could be so irresponsible. It was ridiculous. And whoever produced that load of crap, you my friend are weak and unimportant. It’s easy to be the editor instead of the author.
Wish & hope but most likely not. I hope you OR Ed decide to give it a go on the West end…sure are looking forward to some reasonable people watching out for its citizens, unlike the clown sitting in the center seat today. Hope so?

Thanks Jeff.

I will hide from the wife.
The policy debate goes on.

Eberlie, Doherty and others get 3.5 minutes to testify. When I testify the County lady held up her watch to the Commissioners.
EXACTLY! Controlled public speaking and pressure.
You forgot and who is allowed to point 👉☝️
BTW John, you are also a treasure to CC! Jeff needs people like you to help lead the effort to ultimately unseat these... I don't even want to finish that sentence, it's just too disgusting to say.
Many fine voices on these threads!

John, I'm not sure Jeff did you the service you think he did. https://open.substack.com/pub/ixodes/p/sweet-like-cujo?r=5b9x9x&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web&showWelcomeOnShare=false

You covered it all so well. Great job.

If you created a visual identity that people recognize with a well designed ad then you could direct people to different issues as they arise. I know that a small ad in the Jeffco Leader costs around $200. This group could collect that amount pretty easily, but you would want to place it in the PDN. Agreed. I don't see LE becoming involved in a civil dispute unless needed to keep the peace.
No different from Port Angeles City Council where a council member and his wife both get to hold forth in various roles. Beware, you vigilantes who fight the homeless industrial complex.
Meanwhile, the local corporate media wrings its hands over fragile profit margins, timid and voiceless, confusing pablum for journalism.
You mean like running press releases from OMC as if they were legitimate, objective journalism?
Yep, exactly. Faux journalism.
Thank goodness for CC Watchdog, the one media source in this county not reluctant to tackle the seamier side of local politics.

She was infamous for calling a homeless site cleanup group I volunteered with, Helping Hands, a bunch of right wing vigilantes.

OMG I just watched the 'wife' dress down the people of Clallam County... Go watch it per Jeff's link...
OMG... What hubris... Overconfidence... Superiority... Audacity... Airs... Self importance... Haughtiness...
I need a shower to wash off the disgust from that talking down she dumped on us...
I've met people like her, but that was in junior high school.
Bully girls...
There are the "Karens" (naggy, preachy, college-educated liberal white women). Now we are seeing naggy, preachy, college-educated liberal white women who fight their husbands' battles.
Let's call 'em "Lisas".
You make it sound like being a college educated white woman is a bad thing! I’m proud of my education and don’t want to be labeled as one of those “ Wives” that lose their _hit in public. Clearly very inappropriate behavior. Wonder why she thought that was an idea, much less a good idea?
Mean girls!
Will it be a Lifetime Original? I've always thought that because of my high cheekbones, Delta Burke would portray me well.
I'll play the drunken uncle who manages to dispense wisdom no one listens to!🥸
I don’t think a movie would get many viewers. Not when real life experiences play out in small town America. It’s not just Clallam County it’s a system gone a muck!
It needs a sex angle to be a blockbuster hit...
It needs more work, but there's a start.
I'm hooked akready.
That's what I'm talking about.
You may be on to a movie script. Ever thought about writing for money? Husband reminds me to do that when I’m busy on other sites!
Recall!
Wish & hope but most likely not. I hope you OR Ed decide to give it a go on the West end…sure are looking forward to some reasonable people watching out for its citizens, unlike the clown sitting in the center seat today. Hope so?
