I imagined peace, community, what I had seen in earlier years. That was some time ago, and I never expected to be writing something like this today.
I started my career as an accountant and auditor. Later, I moved into law enforcement and served as an officer. After being injured on duty, I was able to transition into executive management position for the largest county in the country and oversaw a department with over 500 employees. I was responsible for all the operations and budgets and over the years in totality those budget dollars neared one billion. Over my tenure, I oversaw millions upon millions in grants. I researched, wrote, administered and went through audits on those grants. Not once did I have a grant exception. Not once did we overspend. Not once did we run a deficit. I budgeted through the 2007–08 financial crisis without a single failure. That wasn’t luck — it was structure, accountability, complete transparency and leadership from the county supervisors as well.
I am appalled at what I see here for our budgeting and the simple questions that are asked of the commissioners and cannot or are not answered. Do they even know and understand a budget? I have so many questions.
The county I worked in had a critical safeguard: the District Attorney’s office was completely separate from the county commissioners. That separation allowed the DA to investigate anyone — commissioners, mayors, city officials, employees — without conflict of interest. It created a culture where misconduct had consequences, and everyone knew it. The District Attorney prosecuted many officials, mayors, employees and received convictions and many even received prison time for their crimes.
What we have here is the opposite.
Our current structure creates a built in conflict of interest for the prosecutor in any matter involving the county. That means the very people who should be held accountable are shielded by the system itself. Just look at the pool case. Look at Burke. A year later — nothing. I contacted the Attorney General’s office myself. Silence. They receive over 2,000 complaints a month, and we expect them to prioritize a $60,000 case from a small rural county? That’s a huge amount of money for us, but a drop in the bucket for them. The commissioners and others in this county know they will never be held accountable under the current structure. They know it. And they act accordingly.
This is why we need a Public Integrity Unit — a PIU — separate from the prosecutor’s office. A PIU would allow independent investigation of fraud, misuse of funds, conflicts of interest, and violations of public trust. I’ve said this repeatedly. Without structural change, nothing will change.
Right now, there is zero accountability. And things will not improve but only get worse as we watch it happen.
In my previous county, I worked closely with two tribes. We had strong, respectful, transparent relationships. The professionalism was outstanding. What I see here is nothing like that. The difference is staggering, and it speaks to deeper issues in leadership and governance here.
It is painful to watch how Allen leads this county and how the commissioners follow. They answer questions only when they feel like it. They treat public meetings as a formality rather than a responsibility.
I’ve spent months digging into the parking program. When I finally uncovered fraud and sent a letter to French and OLYCAP — silence again. No acknowledgment. No follow up. No accountability. The arrogance and dismissal of the public is infuriating.
And let’s be honest: many of the people cheering on these commissioners never file public records requests. They never read audits or 990s. They never look beyond their social circles. They don’t want accountability; they want comfort and familiarity. Meanwhile, the rest of us are left dealing with the consequences.
I strongly urge everyone to support Virginia for auditor. She is committed to establishing a Public Integrity Unit in this county. No one should oppose that unless they have something to hide.
It is not too late to heal this county, but we are running out of time. We need to vote and change leadership before we circle the drain completely. If you think things are bad now, wait a couple more years under the current direction. More good families will leave — and I’ve already watched friends sell their homes and move because of the schools, the rising property taxes, and the belief among leadership that we are their endless pot of money.
This county is losing good people. It’s losing families. It’s losing trust. And it’s losing its future.
Talk to your family, friends, and neighbors. We need to vote these people out. I’m one voice and one vote — but it takes a village.

We can't continue this way! As Jeff states in his podcast, this election is the first of three and in three years we could have a completely different county. I will reply this way. I lived and worked in a state by one party. This was done in the prosecutors office where I worked. It is not auditors, it is law enforcment who investigates the potential fraud and violations according the the penal code where I worked, the RWC in this state. Once found and in violation, arrests are made and then sent to the prosecutors office for filing. We had hundreds of cases and arrests and even a county commissioner was arrested during a public hearing. It can be done, but it takes law enforcement and the prosecutor working together. That is why we need a separate walled off PIU from what we have here. It can and does work, I have seen it. Currently there is not a PIU in this state other than for OIS (officer involved shootings). There is no reason why such a unit could not be created here. IMO.
Well stated, CAS. Fear of retaliation, public shaming and job insecurity are major factors in small towns and counties, causing apprehension in speaking out. The current situation in Clallam County is nothing new; the perpetrators are more brazen and confident that they will retire, and walk away without any consequences due to the behavior having become SOP. We have had attorneys, and judges quietly depart due to their questionable activities, over the years. Currently, there is at least one attorney, locally, who has been barred by the Federal Government from representing client Social Security claims, and is facing a class action suit, after questionable behavior and actions spanning over 40+ years. Yet he still "practices" in our Courts. This behavior has been allowed to continue, and is by no means isolated. Eventually, people get fed up with arrogance and vengeful behavior, though historically, citizen residents have been extremely forgiving, being busy with productive, honorable lives of their own. I look forward to this opportunity to turn the corner, heading in a better life, environmental and spiritually refreshing direction, building on the dreams that have been stymied and railroaded to siders via politics. Our ballots are the "Golden Ticket" to reclaim what was once cities, counties, and a state that we all built together, without depending on grant funding, which often leads to "favors" being called in at a later date, behind closed doors.

A few months back, my husband and I stopped at the TAFY nursery to buy a couple of hydrangea plants. The man who we encountered there was a local we both have known from this area for a long time. Kevin Corning.

Jeff, I encourage you to look up a report a group of private individuals submitted to the City Council back in 2015 or 2016 which highlighted their propensity for putting convicted sex offenders in proximity to children, knowingly harboring wanted felons and fugitives, and (by Susan's own admission) allowing girls to hover around the building during closed hours to use their wifi to arrange sex transactions for drugs. It was never confirmed, but many strongly suspect that a County health department employee was, for a time, bringing syringes directly to TAFY and distributing them to their clientele there. Despite the fact that this "non-profit" has allowed and facilitated some of the grossest behavior imaginable for years now, they have succeeded in buffaloing a significant percentage of the local populace (particularly the over-60 female crowd) into thinking they are a net positive for the community. We don't even need to get into the fact that yes, as a previous commenter pointed out, they are responsible for the lion's share of the garbage 4pa is pulling out of local creekbeds.

East Sequim Reality Check: I bought property in Willow Creek Estates back in November of 2020 during the beginning part of the "pandemic". I made plans for and then built a house on that lot. I then sold it in 2023, not even finished, to people that very much wanted to live in that neighborhood. NOW, just a little over 3 years later, the people in that neighborhood are OUTRAGED by what is going on right by their neighborhood! NOT a cheap neighborhood, either! If I had to pay property taxes, currently $6,632.44/year for just THAT house, and had this nearby eyesore, I'd be PISSED! It WAS a nice quiet, clean, friendly neighborhood. Even walking distance to the park and QFC, if you didn't want to drive to the store. This shouldn't be allowed. Why does QFC put up with it? Or the other nearby businesses, for that matter.

As I sip my morning Latte I was trying to be positive on the outlook of CC. I am struggling to see where our current regime has taken us.The boycotting, crime, wasteful spending, OMC, the empty buildings, trash on the sidewalks, land grabs by Tribes, and much more. The thing that I have a problem with is the Dems have caused this yet as the election nears have given NO solutions to fix these problems. They only trash Jake and Jeff for exposing the current fiasco they have created. You would think that they would have answers instead for the downward spiral we are in. Do any of the leftist CCWD people on this sub stack have any answers?None i have seen only trash talking. Today I would like to see PM Don PW Mythra, and others respond what is positive in their solutions to reversing this trend of disaster awaiting us if we don’t reverse our direction. Am waiting the answers.
Agreed, there are no answers, IMO, they only talk trash, because they can't answer. The hatred and vile language and actions are like nothing I have ever seen anywhere I have lived before. Regarding Streamfest - it is put on by the Port Angeles Garden Club. And Wendy Rae Johnson is a member (don't hold that against them) and was wearing an Orca costume that day. The club has had a representative from 4PA speak at one of their meetings and has made a small monetary contribution to their efforts. Also 4PA did have a booth at Streamfest. Just for the record.

.Malfeasance and shady behavior is nothing new for TAFY. Jeff, I encourage you to look up a report a group of private individuals submitted to the City Council back in 2015 or 2016 which highlighted their propensity for putting convicted sex offenders in proximity to children, knowingly harboring wanted felons and fugitives, and (by Susan's own admission) allowing girls to hover around the building during closed hours to use their wifi to arrange sex transactions for drugs. It was never confirmed, but many strongly suspect that a County health department employee was, for a time, bringing syringes directly to TAFY and distributing them to their clientele there. Despite the fact that this "non-profit" has allowed and facilitated some of the grossest behavior imaginable for years now, they have succeeded in buffaloing a significant percentage of the local populace (particularly the over-60 female crowd) into thinking they are a net positive for the community. We don't even need to get into the fact that yes, as a previous commenter pointed out, they are responsible for the lion's share of the garbage 4pa is pulling out of local creekbeds.

I'm a "she", but collectively or in generalization, I can also be referred to as a "they". "They didn't say" or "they planned this all along", etc. This is a time when you might be referred to as a they, when the speaker doesn't know your identity. I can give her the benefit of the doubt, there. However, I noticed from the pic: What is with all of these ID10T women running the health department or the city of Seattle and their large foreheads? East Sequim Reality Check: I bought property in Willow Creek Estates back in November of 2020 during the beginning part of the "pandemic". I made plans for and then built a house on that lot. I then sold it in 2023, not even finished, to people that very much wanted to live in that neighborhood. NOW, just a little over 3 years later, the people in that neighborhood are OUTRAGED by what is going on right by their neighborhood! NOT a cheap neighborhood, either! If I had to pay property taxes, currently $6,632.44/year for just THAT house, and had this nearby eyesore, I'd be PISSED! It WAS a nice quiet, clean, friendly neighborhood. Even walking distance to the park and QFC, if you didn't want to drive to the store. This shouldn't be allowed. Why does QFC put up with it? Or the other nearby businesses, for that matter.
