The revolving wheel has been broken for a while. As an independent, I'm still willing to vote for a change. Jake is that change. I'm willing to vote for someone with a refreshingly different take on fixing this county. French has had his chance & it hasn't gotten any better. My hope is that with Jake on board, maybe Randy will start standing up to help that change since he's been out numbered for a while. A more balanced table (because I think Randy will be the deciding factor on votes) is what is needed. Jake is obviously a more conservative vote while we know Mark is far left (history tells us this). Jake & Mark will most likely be on opposite sides for major financial issues. In my view, Commissioner Mike French has not provided the leadership our county needs. I have also questioned the County's continued financial support for nonprofit organizations without stronger oversight and measurable performance standards. Taxpayers deserve to know exactly how their money is being spent. Public Health has a $25 million budget-what results are being achieved?
The County's Opportunity Fund expenditures should receive rigorous public scrutiny before hundreds of thousands of taxpayer dollars are committed to private development projects or nonprofit organizations, the County should clearly demonstrate the public benefit for all. Our tribal neighbors are receiving historical dollars payments from the Federal and State governments-our tax dollars, and yet no tribal partner will contribute any money to supporting our roads, safety, schools or stop watering an expansion golf course. The Jake oppossers want a socialist county for all. I don't see the productivity in disrupting traffic, name calling, beating drums, and holding signs with foul messages.

I have observed Jake Seegers in action 7 days a week talking to businesses, Recomplete stakeholders, neighbors, including service resistant, making public comments at the Commissioners Tuesday 10am meeting, commenting at the Homeless Task Force and Behavioral Health meetings, and picking up trash with 4PA. I have never observed Mike French extending himself except to OlyCap who's 2024 revenues were $24 million dollars. Do you think if you faced a hardship and couldn't pay your property taxes, the County would excuse this? No way. Property owners have become profit centers for the current leadership. When I first watched the church video, I was honestly disheartened. I remember thinking, "This could be the nail in the coffin." Not because I suddenly believed Jake was a hateful person, but because I knew how quickly people would fill in the blanks with their own assumptions.
Then I watched the online reaction.
What saddened me even more than the video itself was seeing people take obvious pleasure in tearing another human being apart. I watched people transform his words into things he never actually said, including claims that he wants to "eradicate homeless people." Whether you support him or oppose him, that's not an honest conversation.
When I met Jake, my experience was entirely different. I shared my past addiction, homelessness, and the harm I caused. I expected judgment. Instead, he listened. He didn't make me feel less than. He challenged me to think, and I left with my mind racing.
For transparency, I'm not religious. I'm not MAGA. I've never voted for Trump or Biden. I usually find myself politically homeless somewhere in the middle. I still intend to vote for Jake. Not because I agree with every word he's ever spoken, but because I believe people should be judged by the entirety of their character, not by a twelve-minute clip viewed through the worst possible interpretation.
As someone who plans to support him, I also think his best path forward isn't to convince everyone that every word he spoke two years ago was perfect. It wasn't, and he's acknowledged that himself. His job now is simply to keep showing people who he is today through humility, listening, and service to this community.

On partisanship, despite running as an independent, he explicitly told voters to "vote straight down the Republican line" and claimed the opposing party is "aligned with the devil." On taxes, he admitted to an absolute rule to reject all public funding, stating, "Personally, I vote against anything that has a tax associated with it because the government's bloated and any department can figure out how to live with 25% less." This mindset directly threatens our local school, fire, and library levies. When a candidate claims "any department can figure out how to live with 25% less," they are either fundamentally misunderstanding the county budget or actively advocating for mass layoffs.
Let's look at the math. A 25% cut to the Sheriff’s Department means slashing nearly $5 million. You cannot do that by trimming fat; you have to fire patrol deputies, gut jail staffing, and defund drug task forces. For Code Enforcement, which currently relies on just one full-time and one part-time field officer, a 25% cut eliminates that part-time role entirely, meaning illegal dumping and problem properties will just be ignored.
You cannot run a campaign focused on public safety and cleaning up the county while simultaneously promising to defund local law enforcement and code compliance by a quarter.
Take the money we are WASTING and move it to law enforcement. Duh! You can’t be that dumb to give the ideas that Jake has as not good. When I first watched the church video, I was honestly disheartened. I remember thinking, "This could be the nail in the coffin." Not because I suddenly believed Jake was a hateful person, but because I knew how quickly people would fill in the blanks with their own assumptions.
Then I watched the online reaction.
What saddened me even more than the video itself was seeing people take obvious pleasure in tearing another human being apart. I watched people transform his words into things he never actually said, including claims that he wants to "eradicate homeless people." Whether you support him or oppose him, that's not an honest conversation.
When I met Jake, my experience was entirely different. I shared my past addiction, homelessness, and the harm I caused. I expected judgment. Instead, he listened. He didn't make me feel less than. He challenged me to think, and I left with my mind racing.
For transparency, I'm not religious. I'm not MAGA. I've never voted for Trump or Biden. I usually find myself politically homeless somewhere in the middle. I still intend to vote for Jake. Not because I agree with every word he's ever spoken, but because I believe people should be judged by the entirety of their character, not by a twelve-minute clip viewed through the worst possible interpretation.
As someone who plans to support him, I also think his best path forward isn't to convince everyone that every word he spoke two years ago was perfect. It wasn't, and he's acknowledged that himself. His job now is simply to keep showing people who he is today through humility, listening, and service to this community.
Take it from someone who spent years in addiction, carrying the weight of the harm I caused and the chaos I left behind: if all any of us are ever allowed to be is the worst thing we've said or done, then what hope is there for redemption, recovery, or growth? We learn. We grow. We do better today than we did yesterday. The past has lessons to teach us, but it shouldn't become the prison we live in forever.
All any of us truly have is this moment. What we choose to do with it says far more about our character than a single moment from years ago.
I love Clallam County. It's where my family's roots run deep. But lately I've found myself wondering whether my family will eventually have to vote with our feet. That thought breaks my heart. More than anything, I hope we can become a community that debates ideas passionately without forgetting the humanity of the people on the other side.

Nextdoor is as responsible or worse than those commenters who take pleasure in tearing others apart. They closed the post to comments after two days but left all the vile comments and lies up. They tell me to be a good and kind neighbor, I say they need to practice what they preach.
Yes. Nextdoor has been quite the pit. It's funny because I had started trying to engage in Nextdoor sometime ago thinking ' hey maybe there's some adultier adults on here to conversate with'
Boy was I wrong. I find myself waiting for an adult to enter the mainfeed- and it just doesn't happen.
There were a few people on there who I had found some balance in, and unfortunately these last few days has proven those people joining in on the bashing. One comment wrote something along the lines of " when it comes to commissioners and skunks, who would Jesus shoot first?" And this comment was from someone I had before respected to have some balanced thoughts. The post was left for a day and a half before finally being removed. So disappointing! I'm disgusted by my neighbors on nextdoor. Have some class and balance.
What gets me is Jeff is banned for a lifetime for what, posting common sense articles? Meanwhile the vile posters and commenters get a pass to bash whoever and whatever they want, most of them with no consequence. Says everything about Nextdoor.
I really appreciate when you share here and on your own substack, and the same for many other locals with local lived experience. I usually read what you write at least 3 times. My oen experience was years ago and in a far different location so while I have my own insight it's really important to me to learn from those who have overcome in this place and in more recent times. I learn as much from them as I do from my own adult children, and it's all part of continued growth and learning for me.

What fascinates me about this is that it’s a forced outing. It’s outing how Jake votes, outing how Jake worships. Jeff and Doug have also been outed recently — for an open marriage that doesn’t exist.
Some Next Door conversations demonstrate to me that Jake is being socially discriminated against not for policies or a platform, but for foundational freedoms — the freedom to vote how you want, the freedom to worship how you want, and the freedom to be financially successful — the same foundational freedoms everyone has in this country.
My name came up in Next Door conversations too and that I don’t share my real name. This isn’t true — Jen is my real name. People have also met me in person; they know who I am. When it comes to monkeys and pigs, they aren’t willing to meet with Jake and have an interview to get their questions answered as has been offered to them. Some people aren’t even willing to email Jake with their questions. That’s their right — ignorance is a right.
This video is a perfect example of why many people out here protect their privacy as much as possible — because the Clallam community has residents who retaliate with pride against an individual’s foundational freedoms. Again, ignorance is a right.

I listened to the candidate talk to his campaign manager—that’s not transparency, that’s damage control. Talking exclusively to your own team to manage fallout doesn't give voters the real answers they deserve. Go talk to a real journalist.
If you look at his actual statements in the interview, they completely contradict his public campaign persona. On partisanship, despite running as an independent, he explicitly told voters to "vote straight down the Republican line" and claimed the opposing party is "aligned with the devil." On taxes, he admitted to an absolute rule to reject all public funding, stating, "Personally, I vote against anything that has a tax associated with it because the government's bloated and any department can figure out how to live with 25% less." This mindset directly threatens our local school, fire, and library levies. Finally, regarding his rhetoric, he doubled down on using a story about blasting a skunk with a shotgun as a direct metaphor for handling political opponents, telling the audience, "God gave you the shotgun... go kill the skunks."
For true accountability, Seegers needs to face an unedited interview with an independent, objective local reporter—not a soft-ball conversation handled by his own staff.

When a candidate claims "any department can figure out how to live with 25% less," they are either fundamentally misunderstanding the county budget or actively advocating for mass layoffs.
Let's look at the math. A 25% cut to the Sheriff’s Department means slashing nearly $5 million. You cannot do that by trimming fat; you have to fire patrol deputies, gut jail staffing, and defund drug task forces. For Code Enforcement, which currently relies on just one full-time and one part-time field officer, a 25% cut eliminates that part-time role entirely, meaning illegal dumping and problem properties will just be ignored.
You cannot run a campaign focused on public safety and cleaning up the county while simultaneously promising to defund local law enforcement and code compliance by a quarter.

Take the money we are WASTING and move it to law enforcement. Duh! You can’t be that dumb to give the ideas that Jake has as not good. I'm a voter, not his PR agent. It is a fundamental expectation that anyone running for County Commissioner faces the local press to defend their platform. If the campaign is unwilling or unable to secure standard media interviews, that is a failure of the campaign, not the electorate.

To them, religion is a bad thing, something to sideline, mock, or replace with secular grievance. Teaching practical life skills to kids? Not a priority. What matters is instilling a narrative of hate and grievance against America. The "oppression Olympics" curriculum, and ranking everyone by identity and victimhood, has turned too many of our kids into resentful socialists who see the world as a zero-sum fight between oppressors and oppressed.
They cut ribbons on DNR land and block or slow timber sales on state lands that have long funded rural districts like Port Angeles. Those lost revenues, combined with enrollment drops, drive painful staff and program cuts, yet the equity bureaucracy and social justice initiatives remain protected. Socialists don't want to cut the school programs teaching their equity bullshit to our kids. No. Nancy Hamilton wants to micromanage the district's guts to advance the social equity goals she ran on.
The socialists' model only needs "brown shirts" to fill the ranks: a mob of kids whose only hope is to take from the rich and stand in the bread line, because they've been taught they cannot compete. Armed only with social equity squirming in their brains, they see envy and oppression everywhere instead of agency and opportunity. This doesn't build strong people. Religion is a threat to the development of young brown shirts.

Kids need tools for competence and meaning: trades, basics, agency, and yes, the voluntary wisdom of faith. Prioritizing anything less sells out their future for political optics. Time to choose substance over slogans.
