Decades ago, I told everyone within earshot that I was done apologizing for being a semi-successful white heterosexual male. That semi-success came from a lifetime of deferred gratification, hard work, and personal sacrifice. I had to change from my first career in government to private enterprise when the initial affirmative action laws were passed via the Bakke decision in 1978 and my chances for advancement and new employment were essentially torpedoed. Until and unless we quit giving any group preferences and special privileges because of race and/or gender and/or sexual preference, and until we quit teaching our children that America is a horrible, racist society (in which only Caucasians can be racist), and until we once again make individuals responsible for themselves and their actions and to quit expecting the government to bail them out, we will never be able to move forward as a cohesive society.
