18 serious accidents at Macleay and Cays in seven years, a letter of concern sent and nothing has been done. Two accidents on Towne road in 25 years and six days after testimony action is taken. Just goes to show the only thing that matters is who the "concerned citizens" are.

Every one of these speed limit reduction requests and all the proposed "Round Abouts" throughout the county all have the same root cause.......Lack of Law Enforcement.

Simple question:

For the price$$$$ of one "Round About" how many Photo Enforcement Speed Cameras could Clallam County buy????

More complicated question:

How much more would speeding tickets add to the County Budget???

paula graham's avatar

I agree…. More police ARE needed… especially from the carlsborg light to deadman’s curve going into P.A. Then there is the award winning third place for having the most drug problems… winner winner chicken dinner… sick of hearing we don’t have the money….

NorTexWarrior's avatar

Not a fan of cameras/photo tracking. I asked about the coffers and speeding tickets and the answer was very muddy. Something to dig up more info on.

Jeff Tozzer's avatar

It sounded like the State gets the lion's share of the $$$ from tickets, and the County doesn't get as much.

Clallam County Code Broken on county roads.

Clallam County Sherriff writes tickets on county roads.

Clallam County Road infractions adjudicated in Clallam County Courts.

Washington State gets most of the Money????

No wonder the County does not enforce the speed limits!!!!!!

That deserves its own story.

Most of the chronic speeders don't give 2 shits about tickets and enforcement...you can't force people to be smart, wise, concerned, generous, kind, considerate by fining them.

You are advocating for a police state and you have no idea what you are going to get with that. Best wishes.

Leo Leblanc's avatar

Robert, in case you haven't noticed, we've been living in a police state since Al Gore invented the Internet. Every letter you send is scanned and a digital copy is kept. Every phone call you make is digitize, recorded and run through an algorithm looking for key words. Every key stroke you make and site you visit online is logged and stored. Welcome to the digital age.

Robert James's avatar

Agree Leo...just saying that more big brother traffic cams isn't going to make things better. Thanks.

Leo Leblanc's avatar

I think we may be talking about two different things. I'm NOT talking about surveillance cameras; I'm talking about radar activated Photo Enforcement which is no different than the local LEO's hiding behind a bush or in a blind spot with a radar gun.

I understand Leo. Thanks for clarifying.

As a newcomer to Clallam county (18yrs) coming from beautiful Tennessee, Johnson City. ( Washington, Carter & Sullivan counties) I really thought I was in the progressive West. Nope. Not so much. Johnson City similar to Sequim was kinda like an isolated area nestled in the NE panhandle. Nestled in with beautiful Kentucky, Virginia then North Carolina. With beautiful mountains of the Blue Ridge and Great Smokey Mts.

Roads all over the place… farm roads, old timey ones, family roads and by god you better know that if you’re on one and drive rightly.

Roads thru the Pisgah National forest that are so windy and cutbacks on the steepest mountain I’ve ever seen… (I grew up in Yosemite and Sequoia in the 50’s)…and that road from Hogback into Asheville had No guard rails and the speed limit was 50mph… with no warning signs!!! I felt this was the designated area of population reduction…. But then I was a worldly person deriving my experiences from living in as many places as I could, California., S. Fla, Fla. Keys, Wa. D.C., Tn., and now Sequim.

Sorry but telling it like it is… since the council, who is responsible for educating the populace has continued to treat the local population of old families and idiot newcomers like irresponsible drunken yahoo’s. This is what you get! Isolated somewhat educated loving the prominence and power of small big fish in a small pond.

Unwilling to see the larger picture.

There should be uniformity of roads… laughingly Kitchen Dick is a speedway… flashing light or not! Old Olympic… Woodcock… what a view. Hogback rd here what a difference from Tn. Still weirdly steep. Irony of the same families idk… hidden roads still unpaved roads in seemingly the city… sans uniformity… do they get a homeowners tax break living on one?

I’m sure others coming from away see the proverbial “slip showing” of county management. However are they offered an invitation to the council meetings…. Shown the importance of attending and the importance to themselves in the long run.

PREDICTION:

The 2026 scheduled road improvements for this section of Towne Rd. will be canceled and the speed limit lowered!!!!!! The money will be re-routed to the DLT for parking and other trail improvements.

Riddle me this. Why is Hwy 101 from Carlsborg to KitchenDick a 4 lane highway 45mph, yet KitchenDick a 2 lane road 50mph?

Jeff Tozzer's avatar

Great question... I hope John Worthington reads this.

paula graham's avatar

Or who were the commissioners at the time … maybe it was forward thinking that those were would be thoroughfares 🥸

I find our area mobility frustratingly slow and do not attribute that to speed limits. Perhaps more ticketing for driving while texting or other distractions. Texting, phone conversations, smoking, applying make-up, drinking coffee or eating while driving are all distractions. A significant amount of real estate and resources have been dedicated to providing us expedient mobility, that we must not all walk. That investment should be respected for it's purpose and not hindered by all of us who want lower speed limits at "my" place, neighborhood or area.

Lynne Ragazzini's avatar

I’m up for all of these speed reductions but Leo is correct. No one enforces speed limits in Sequim so why bother? I’d love to see speed bumps installed on 3 Crabs.

John Worthington's avatar

Its really bass ackwards now. The higher speeds should be on 101 and all of the growth should have been from there north not on 101. The speed on the Carlsborg area roads including old Olympic should have been lowered when Wes Washburn was alive. I have concerns slow speed fever will spread to 101 and the only freight corridor we have. They seem allergic to overpasses and merges here.

Billy T Wilson's avatar

Slower is safer. Will that slow down speeders who KNOW there is no police presence? Of course not. If seeing 25 mph on your road makes you safer you are delusional. Do I agree drivers should drive 25 on these roads, yes. Will they, no...

Very informative. Thank you!

You're always welcome, Ladies.

Drive it like ya stole it!...that's the new normal.☺️

My mom is 80 years old and has never obeyed a posted speed limit in all her driving years. My dad is 85 and drives like he's 25 (he finally gave up his motorcycle 4 years ago). I don't know if a newly reduced speed limit will solve the residents' issue with speeding, but it may make them feel safer. I do believe the more pressing matter is the Macleay and Cays intersection at Old Olympic. I hope it can be resolved soon, and that all who cross are safe. Thank you, Jeff. Once again you are on top of it all!

Jeff Tozzer's avatar

I already like your mom! Any chance of her moving here and voting by November?

Robert James's avatar

Those rolling speed bumps actually help...They can be designed to be very comfortable at the given speed posted and quickly become a problem if you are 5-10 or more miles over.

They are not too expensive and they are effective...they just need to be very visible and well signed. Actions speak louder than words...best of luck navigating the New World Insanity.

Welcome to the Californication of Clallam County...when laws have to be made and overhauled because of lack of common sense and decency.

I believe it would be good for all of us to 'slow down' and relax especially behind the wheel.

The speed limits are unenforceable unless we have a complete police state with ticketing cameras and lots of additional officers to police and enforce.

The U.S. has over 800,000 laws on the books because we are too stupid to follow the Golden Rule.

800,000 randomly enforced laws which have little or no impact on behavior.

Whatever happens to 'humanity' we get what we collectively deserve in the end.

Say la vie.

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you. That is all I can say.

That's all you need to say, Kathy. You are very welcome.

I wonder how much flyers cost neon pink and green advertising a subject with time and place?
