LWV Brings Water Steward Back from the Dead

CCWD subscribers have followed and fought this. We knew this topic would be back. We also know it will be a huge battle. The LWV have no right to be partisan to it.

Instead of a poet person you could have a fossil hunter/finder free of charge!

How is it that the LWV needs data and input regarding all the depreciation of water sources when Seabrooks Casey Roloff came to the public meeting regarding a 600 housing unit resort in Sequim Bay?

If you recall he had been given charts and graphs from the city of Sequim, that he showed on the power point presentation. So all the public hears is how we have no water to spare yet he shows us there would be no impact on available water through 2040.

There goes my conspiracy thinking again, tell the public we have a crisis, tell a developer the welcome mat is waiting for him. Both can’t be true, but nice way to balance budget by selling all those building permits. Personal experience, the guy is a snake oil salesman, and BoCCC have a snake oil lab and manufacturing facility somewhere in the forest.

The LWV also has a land acknowledgement statement but this new entree doesn't beat around the bush, according to this, we should all be in front of a firing squad!

https://www.insurance.wa.gov/about-us/tribal-relations

Office of the Insurance Commissioner Washington State:

Our land acknowledgement statement

We respectfully acknowledge that the land OUR FACILITIES are on is traditional territory of many indigenous tribes consolidated into the 29 federally recognized tribes of Washington. We honor those tribes and bands whose voices have been lost over these last few centuries, acknowledging their enduring connection to this region and recognizing historical and ongoing contributions to our community. WE HAVE BENEFITED AND CONTINUE TO BENEFIT FROM LIVING, WORKING, AND OCCUPYING THESE ANCESTRAL TERRITORIES. WE ACKNOWLEDGE THAT THE DISPOSSESSION OF LAND WAS OFTEN COMMITTED THROUGH COERCION, VIOLENCE, DISHONORABLE INTENTIONS, OR BLATANT DISREGARD OF TREATIES.

We'd like to explicitly express our DEEP GRATITUDE to the people indigenous to this region. We commit to building better, more meaningful relationships with you. As we do this work, we recognize the importance of supporting your tribal sovereignty and self-determination. We endeavor to include more voices from your communities in our work.

Odd, I was just on this site today. Medicare is holding up paper work required for my husbands surgery. He had a back surgery in Feb. 2025 and all his extremely high OOP deductibles have been met. They have been stalling since Sept. I think they want to force him into a high copay by waiting until Jan 2026. The web site has a small area for complaints (Large area for Natives) but for us, it states that there is a 45 day processing time for complaints and or concerns. Time is of the essence, is an idea that they may put on the agenda for an In-Service. They haven’t grasped that, or maybe they have.

I’m feeling cynical, cynical always cynical . Government made me Cynical Cynical 🎤🎺 my husband is in horrible

pain, if we complain we are Cynical cynical.

And for Ins industry workers who get to deny treatment, may the bluebird of happiness herniate 2 discs in your lower back requiring fusion and a metal plate and chronic pain. It's really unfortunate that apparently Ms Fairbanks has never met and talked to Jake to form a rational and intelligent position of how he thinks and what he stands for. Until she does so I summarily dismiss her Boogeyman tactic harkening back to junior high school. I've read her comments here before, they tended to be more thoughtful despite her verve, and I can respect that. This latest comment of hers is beneath her.

Then you freely decide for yourself what you want to support. M. Fairbanks freely participates in both Nextdoor and CCWD, adding her perspective for people to consider, thus creating independent thought. As far as the Water Steward issue, for many years people have been pushing and pushing for this new bureaucracy. This will not go quietly away, but rather quietly fought for. Stay alert on this one.

Susan, I have done 3 PRRs and have read thru past CRC agendas and minutes. 2020 CRC meetings have references to water steward and water security positions. Ron Richards has been a proponent of such a position maybe as early as 2005. Other people, possibly some you may know of, are mentioned that support a WS. A lot to digest when you read thru all of these documents and those from meetings earlier than 2020, but they explain the origins and efforts to see this come to be.

The gas tax refund the Tribes has nothing to do with Tribal rights under the Constitution. It is all about politics. Their sovereign status gives them a shield to hide behind and not have to be accountable for vast sums of money that we, THE TAX PAYER, are giving them. This fight has been going on since 2007. I thoroughly object this unlawful and unfair “refund”

https://www.washingtonpolicy.org/publications/detail/tribal-owned-gas-stations-receive-gas-tax-refunds-from-state-for-taxes-consumers-pay

May 20, 2015 Tribal-owned gas stations receive gas-tax "refunds" from state for taxes consumers pay

Washington Policy Center SEATTLE — In 2007, Governor Christine Gregoire signed agreements with Indian tribes that allow those tribes that operate gas station businesses to be ”REFUNDED” 75% of the state gas tax on all fuel sold on tribal lands.  PRIOR TO THE AGREEMENT, the State typically refunded tribes for Fuel CONSUMED BY TRIBAL MEMBERS ON RESERVATIONS. THE TRIBES WERE KEY SUPPORTERS OF GOVERNOR GREGOIRE in her 2004 re-election effort.

The 2007 agreements created a special status for Indian-owned gas stations and RESULTED IN UNFAIR COMPETITION WITH BUSINESSES OWNED BY OTHER WASHINGTON CITIZENS, which are typically not eligible to receive refunds for fuel sold at their businesses.

WPC (Washington Policy Center) research found that money currently paid to the tribes is designated to be used for TRANSPORTATION PURPOSES ONLY, yet INDIAN TRIBES DO NOT MAKE AUDITS PUBLICLY AVAILABLE TO CONFIRM HOW THESE FUNDS ARE USED. Our research also questioned whether public money from the state Motor Vehicle Fund may have been used to UNDERCUT GAS STATIONS OWNED BY THEIR COMPETITORS, IN VIOLATION OF THE CONSTITUTION and the agreements with the State. Any payments from the State to tribal leaders or Indian-owned private businesses should be appropriated by the Legislature with FULL TRANSPARENCY AND ACCOUNTABILITY, because these payments are not a “refund” for overpayment of fuel taxes.

Well said Jennifer as always. I’m so so so tired of this tribal rights garbage, all they’re doing is dividing everyone. They get our federal money to take care of them, well enough. Any tribe that can sustain themselves should no longer get federal money. Purchase land like all of us have to. Many tribes sold their own land to so called white settlers, not our fault they did that.

While I’m out of town fill up, or go to Costco, or a local owned gas station. Might cost a little more but would rather support them

I'm just gonna leave a few examples of influential people who were tied to unsavory characters. These are a few examples of people who most definitely helped to change the world despite who they may have been "hitched" to:

John F. Kennedy- The 35th US President had connections to Frank Sinatra and, through him and other intermediaries, was rumored to have ties to Mafia figures.

Mother Teresa- The Nobel Peace Prize laureate and revered humanitarian controversially accepted money for her causes from millionaires and convicted criminals, which some considered morally questionable, despite her stated purpose of helping the less fortunate.

Winston Churchill- The British Prime Minister, while a National hero during World War 2, had a controversial record prior to that time, including advocating for repressive measures in India in the 1930's and deploying the Army against striking workers in Britain in the 1920's, which earned him many enemies.

My parents taught me that judging someone based on appearance and the company they may keep is poor form.

These 3 examples above still changed the world in a positive manner, despite the rumors and controversy.

It's rather naive to give up on a really great candidate that could change our county for the better, just because one holds a grudge against a blog writer. Poor form!

Great article Jeff Tozzer~!

As I am in my usual traditional Holiday "Joy" mode, I will only make the following "brief" comments to adjust the attitude of the venomous snakes within our governmental systems, community, and to fully support those who I know share the inclination to be free from the "poisonous fangs" of the reptiles in our community~! NO! We will make sure that our children and other patrons of OUR library understand that "we" never stole anything from the so-called "indigenous people" who have never been stolen from by any of us and it is the crooks and two-faced thieves in the local tribal government who are taking unfair advantage of US~! We reject the scumbags "hate porn" regardless of racial considerations! Quit grooming our children~! NO! These same oppressive tribal governments are NOT the victims, they directly represent the bloodlines of the abusers, thieves, enslavers, and murders who preyed upon other indigenous folks for thousands of years before they ever knew that any other race of humans existed. Welcome to the dark side of humans that we all share in our genetic past. Most of us are not abusing others' freedoms and rights, so you social nightmares who keep fanning the flames of division get over yourselves or seek mental help~! Personally, I would donate to the existing Chemakum folks so they would again have a more reasonable presence and historic place at the table. What are you thieving clowns in the Jamestown tribal government doing for YOUR fellow indigenous folks of Chemakum ancestry~? Still killing them, eh? With ALL of your money, you can't so much as throw the few remaining Chemakum a bone~? So much for your so-called "good stewardship"~!!! Hypocrites~! Also, you manipulative lying idiots in our government who knowingly "entice & reward" criminals into our community are being held responsible and we will remember for YOUR foul deeds and sick actions~! If you don't like it, then stop being THE problem or resign before you are thrown out of office on your fat grossly overpaid behinds~! You disgusting social nightmares in the so-called "League of woman voters" also do NOT represent the vast majority of good & wonderful women in our community and we know that you are just cowards hiding behind the thin veneer of fake "bipartisanship" when your funding and designs are anti-American socialist/communist/Marxist and Satanic~! You obviously are too ignorant to know anything about The American Constitution, the environment, or our water issues. Give Soros his money back, because your insanity and disgusting oppressive underhanded BS is NOT welcome here~! Hop on your evil brooms and buzz off before a "house lands on you", because we see you for the sick destructive social & environmental criminals that you really are~! HA! The "magic" disappearance of the manufactured "crisis" conjured up by the lying criminal thieves in our government and community before the past vote really is wonderous~! Behold, a miracle~! HA~! The only "magic disappearing act" that eclipses that sick dog and pony show, is our taxpayer funds in your thieving hands~! Of course you will be back to your evil games, and we will be here with a resounding NO to more taxes & fees, with a "two fingered salute" to you for your contemptable constant "closed door crime spree"~! Your thinly veiled threats and outright bullying will get you nothing but rejection, removal from government office, hopefully criminally prosecuted, and God willing removal from our otherwise beautiful community~! You folks in Diamond Point who want a trail can "get stuffed" if you think that "we" (the honorable Constitutionally minded folks of Clallam County) are going to help you bully & steal property from others, not to mention OUR taxpayer funds, to force "us" to build a trail to prance along wearing your spandex underwear~! If you want a trail then work with your own direct neighbors to make that happen, and if it is not wanted then get over your sick spoiled selves, because our County has MANY other more important things to spend time & money on to correct the constant screw ups & criminal acts of the rampant corruption in our governmental systems~! Lastly, most of us like & appreciate Jake Seegers and Jeff Tozzer, so you disgusting sick perverted mental patients who can't help your socially destructive crimes against those you do not know and issues that are beyond your limited Intellectual capabilities need to go back to kindergarten to learn how to play nice and NOT to slander & liable good folks like rotten spoiled brats~! The new America and world have been born from the ashes of your decades of lunatic rantings and ravings where you were once rewarded for your outbursts and tantrums~! We are taking back our American Republic, destroying your "special privileges club" and your screaming will be "rewarded" by a swift rejection, admonishment, and instruction to go to your hopefully "padded rooms" where you can do no harm to others~! THERE! I feel ALL better now, and the sunny day is absolutely beautiful, the mountains already have a wonderful building early snowpack, the rivers are running well with fresh water, we have our freedoms and rights because WE say so, and the mental patients, criminals, thieves, and thugs in our community are on notice that too many of us have learned their game and reject the same~!!!

Happy Thanksgiving~!

Sincerely, Mike

Speaking as a property owner at Diamond Point, it is ridiculous that Sara T offered up all of us as wanting a trail. We have 3 over 90 year olds living on the loop. Everyone I know here since 2009 are retired seniors with occasional younger visitors. On Diamond Point Road is a huge state park that has trails and little to no use except random horse riding. I don’t know Sara, but the last thing we need is more places to walk. Does Olympic Discovery Trail ring a bell?

You can walk the beach. The traffic is so light you can walk to the Long House and only cross the 101 once. Trail all the way. So Sara where the fluff do you need a trail? It’s 6.5 miles from 101 to the water at Diamond Point. If locals don’t use the state park, why would we need a trail ? You can quit patting your own back because it’s very premature and you don’t seem to have a feel for the residents. "Land Back" is yet another derivation of all the nebulous undefinable ethnicity statuses, ( AKA minorities ), like Native American, indigenous, first nations, first peoples, endemic and aboriginal. Wiki-pedia says there is no globally accepted definition for indigenous and for good reason. When we start slicing humans into minorities the first big cut is gender which is a fairly close 50/50. Then we digress into the near infinite minority possibilities, starting with ancestry, ethnicity, nationality, skin tone, sexual orientation and body type. When we need more minorities we get into names, ( last names mostly ), specific geographic areas of "most" ancestry, neighborhoods, villages, reputations, etc. until we get down to the ultimate minority. That being I, me, myself. Each of us is genetically unique, making each of us a minority of one. So the potential of human minority status is not really infinite, it is currently limited to around one in eight billion. Since aboriginal, native, indigenous, first, endemic peoples warred with each other, how much history of "land back" can be documented ? Were the first nations first ? Via the "land back" logic, those who lost contests would be given whatever was contested. The dominant bull is to give his cows to the loosing bull, so that the gene pool going forward promulgates a weaker herd ! ? Personally, I prefer the most gifted, hardest working and most dedicated receive the fruits of their accomplishments. Rather than to take those fruits and give them to those without talent, work ethic or dedication. There are no first nations; only people.

https://www.indiangaming.com/w-ron-allen-chairman-jamestown-sklallam-tribe-3/

Feb 25, 2025 W. Ron Allen, Chairman Jamestown S’Klallam Tribe

A THIRST THAT IS NEVER QUENCHED... RON ALLEN CLAIMS POVERTY IN ONE PARAGRAPH AND ASKS FOR INCREASED FUNDING. THEN IN THE SECOND PARAGRAPH SAYS THE TRIBE IS GROWING. THAT’S A FORKED TONGUE. See Below:

...We believe that, even though the federal government provides approximately $32 billion or so across the various federal programs serving Indian Country, it can’t or won’t ever provide the true needs of our tribal communities. I have always felt the true annual need for Indian Country is north of the $250-$300 billion level. THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT DOESN’T HAVE THE WILL TO PROVIDE THOSE NEEDED RESOURCES.

...The construction industry is doing well in our local economy, and we are taking advantage of it with our construction operations (e.g., excavation, surveying and concrete businesses). Our Northwest Native Art gallery is doing well as is our Airbnb business. With the e-commerce market and communication system continuing to expand, our tribe is continuing to broaden our operations to take advantage of those opportunities (e.g., cell towers and telemarketing our products). For our tribe, the seafood industry provides a great opportunity for our shellfish and hatchery operations and continues to expand, including pursuing fish farms with natural Northwest species such as steelhead and sablefish.

...Our focus for the immediate future is how to enhance our hospitality component of the property. We have high hopes for an expanded Phase II to ADD ANOTHER TOWER and CONVENTION CENTER, but we are a few years away from that part of our vision.
