One resident’s terrifying encounter exposes Clallam County’s revolving-door approach to repeat offenders — and the stark difference between candidates for county commissioner
Indivisible Sequim left a comment on CCWD and updated their website to include Jake Seegers' questionnaire; however, their website is still riddled with several examples of false information related to the commissioner race. The League of Women Voters did not reply to the email.
Here is today's email sent to the three commissioners and Health Officer Dr. Berry:
Dear Commissioners and Health Officer Berry,
Health Officer Dr. Allison Berry recently made comments stating that harm reduction strategies are not associated with increased crime and that studies support that conclusion.
At the same time, both Port Angeles Police Chief Brian Smith and Clallam County Sheriff Brian King have stated that a significant portion of the crime they respond to is directly related to drug addiction and substance use.
These two positions seem difficult to reconcile.
If drug addiction is driving a substantial share of local crime, and our county is distributing free needles, pipes, foil, and other drug-use supplies, how should the public understand the relationship? Specifically, how are individuals sustaining the drug habits that require these supplies? Are they largely self-supporting, or is the funding coming, at least in part, from property crime, theft, fraud, or other criminal activity?
Could you please explain how the County reconciles these seemingly conflicting messages? If Dr. Berry believes the research demonstrates that harm reduction is unrelated to crime, how does that align with law enforcement's repeated statements that drug addiction is a major driver of criminal activity in our community?
This report, Jeff, is one of the prime causes of driving one out of the Olympic Peninsula, if not out of Washington entirely. If I were a pedestrian in P.A. for the past decade, odds are that I would have been killed or would have killed someone who assaulted me. And in case of the latter, I honestly fear that *I* would be the one arrested, and not let go the next afternoon. It seems that the lackadaisical law enforcement there is just as likely to charge the victim as the criminal, and the corrupt court system just releases the criminals hours later. Is this because of Dr. Dingleberry's brilliance of some obscure "study" from Bhutan that says incarcerating criminals is mean?
The idea of going to jail or prison is a deterrent to most of us, but not to real criminals.... in Clallam County. They know they will be released in a few hours, maybe with a door prize of a pizza or boofing kit. If I were running the show, they would be terrified of prison as the rest of us are, and if/when released, would GTFO of town and not return. It is all too clear that this county is GROSSLY corrupt and mismanaged. Are they somehow able to steal NGO or tax money for every released criminal? We need 3 jakes and a LOT of firings.

I’m keeping screenshots of Berry’s email response to the woman who is being threatened by the man attempting to break into her condo, as a reminder of the downward spiral of our community.
Other communities are quietly cleaning up their Gotham City-like scenarios, where small crimes evolve into bigger ones until citizens are the prey of predatorial behavior that goes unchecked. ‘Trespassing’ these people is insufficient. If that is the way Washington laws are set up, it’s time for big changes, substantial consequences; jail time, or institutionalization for these ‘sick individuals’ (or criminals, depending on your point of view).
Jake Seegers is our Batman to Port Angeles’s Gotham City. God bless him and shield him (and I hope he carries pepper spray).
Incompetent elected liberals that support homeless drug addicts do not seem to have enough brain cells attached to understand beforehand that when you support these addicts you are aiding-abetting more crime.On the other hand seasoned elected incompetents do understand but do not care and just follow their home recking orders.
It is very frustrating to see the responses by law enforcers and prosecutors. The police bring them in and the DA lets them go regularly. No wonder that these druggies come here.
Why do we as a society condone the criminals behavior? The left is spending more time trying to print more ballots than dealing with crime. It’s kind of ironic that the libs are breaking the law just like the druggies only they are stealing an election instead of vape pipes.
What would Mike French, or Dr. Berry, say if they found this loser addict trying to break into their house, or assaulting their child who was clerking at a convenience store? What would the Indivisibles say if he stumbled thru one of their sign waving events? Let’s give him a free shower, free lunch, and a boofing kit? This is a world turned upside down …
We are fighting a deep culture war where “they” want us to normalize unacceptable social behaviors and different sets of values. The zombie voters are not going to vote for change because they are morally righteous-they feel sorry for the repeat offenders who mock the system. We just have to keep reminding each other that this is not acceptable in a society. Treating repeat offenses as minor issues leads to repeated harm for innocent people.
