The county commissioners did not answer yesterday's question about the new protocol that allows the public to interject at worksessions. I have emailed Sound Community Bank. Here is an email to the County Commissioners and County Auditor.

Dear Auditor Riggs and the Clallam County Commissioners,

I’m writing to raise a concern I believe now requires corrective action regarding the League of Women Voters: when an organization that presents itself as nonpartisan engages in exclusionary or advocacy-aligned behavior, it should no longer be treated as a neutral civic resource by county government; if the county would not allow overtly partisan groups to distribute materials or be promoted on its official website, why should an organization that no longer meets its own nonpartisan standard receive that privilege? For that reason, I am asking the commissioners and the auditor to remove League of Women Voters literature from the courthouse and to remove the organization from the official Clallam County website, as continued placement and promotion conveys county endorsement and undermines public trust in fairness, neutrality, and equal access for all voters.

Dr. Sarah's avatar

The response below, modeled on good governance, addresses concerns about neutrality by clarifying the county's authority, explaining why ad hoc removal is unlawful, and identifying the real governance gap—an absence of a neutral policy.

Dear Constituent,

Thank you for raising your concern regarding the County’s interaction with civic organizations, including the League of Women Voters. Your question raises an important issue: neutrality, endorsement, and public trust.

It is important to clarify the County’s authority. Neither the County Auditor nor the Board of County Commissioners is authorized to determine whether a private organization meets its own definition of “nonpartisan,” or to regulate private organizations based on perceived advocacy or exclusionary behavior. Under Washington law and the Clallam County Home Rule Charter, the Auditor’s role is administrative and limited to elections and records, while the Board’s role is legislative and policy-setting—not adjudicative with respect to private speech (RCW 36.22; Clallam County, n.d.-a; Clallam County, n.d.-b).

With respect to County facilities and official webpages, the controlling legal standard is viewpoint neutrality and consistent application of rules. At present, Clallam County has no ordinance, resolution, or administrative policy that establishes criteria or a public process for adding or removing private organizations from County websites or for distributing third-party literature in County spaces (Clallam County, n.d.-c; Clallam County, n.d.-d).

Because no such neutral, written standards currently exist, removing a specific organization in response to a complaint—without first adopting a generally applicable policy—would risk unequal treatment and could undermine, rather than restore, public trust. Washington best-practice guidance cautions local governments against selective inclusion or exclusion of private organizations absent clear, content-neutral rules (Municipal Research and Services Center [MRSC], 2025).

Accordingly, the appropriate corrective action, if any, is policy clarification, not ad hoc removal. If the County wishes to avoid any appearance of endorsement, the Board may consider, through an open public process, whether to adopt viewpoint-neutral standards governing third-party materials and web listings, or to limit or disclaim the use of County platforms by private organizations altogether.

As an individual commissioner, I support addressing this issue through transparent policy review consistent with County authority and state law. That approach protects neutrality, equal access, and the integrity of County governance.

Respectfully,

Commissioner

Clallam County Board of Commissioners

Like the saying goes, "personnel is policy." Both Indivisible Sequim and LWV are peopled by hard left-leaning activists, that is no secret to anyone paying attention. When you challenge them on their statements - "No ICE", for example, does that mean you support open borders and allowing those in the country illegally to remain and receive government resources meant for citizens, and if not, what's your solution? you never get open answers or debate. For LWV in Clallam County to claim nonpartisan status is ludicrous. Thank you, Jeff, for this expose, which should be required reading for all county and local government officials -- even if a Chris Walker would call it nothing but "negative shit."

Kirsten's avatar

That’s exactly right. They protest, attack & complain because they’re consumed w/ Trump derangement syndrome, but they NEVER have any viable solutions to offer & cannot hold their arguments above water when debated. Reptiles. All of them.

Robert, you're absolutely correct:

Liberal “nonpartisan” activists: League of Women Voters

The League of Women Voters claims to be nonpartisan, when in reality the organization engages in extremely partisan politics and spends most of its programming dollars on lobbying for progressive policies.

A few of the progressive MEGA-DONORS include:

• The Ford Foundation

• George Soros’s Foundation to Promote Open Society

• The New York State United Teachers government worker labor union

• The Tides Foundation

Liberal “Nonpartisan” Policies

The League may have started out in a practical role of protecting and expanding voting rights, but those days are drastically over.

No longer shy about its support of progressive policies, the League is charging full steam ahead to some sort of socialist utopia—all while claiming to want to protect democracy.

Jennifer's avatar

The League supports legalization of status for illegal immigrants and federal handouts to communities impacted by illegal immigrants. The League supported the Development, Relief, and Education for Alien Minors (DREAM) Act.

Susan C Bonallo's avatar

The Teachers Union, say no more. That sums up the mind set of all involved in LWV.

The teachers have all the power with a union behind them. I dare you to go have a meeting in a public school. They will send in a pack of feral dogs and you’ll be lucky to leave with both arms and legs. PS grab your kids on the way out.

ABeetlebaum's avatar

OH so right! The teachers union is SO corrupt! And has been for over 60 years!

jedjennings50's avatar

I looked at the sign they had with the words f bomb in it at an intersection that was very public. If this is their way of protest and communication of their views their character is far from acceptable. What a way to express a view. Sounds like their potty mouths should be shut. Soap in their mouths might not work because they are too dumb to know better. They

are at best a Minor league team far from the Majors and obviously way past their prime.

Kathy's avatar

They call their protests peaceful but to me there's a lot more to that than not being violent. Being civil is a big part of it. Holding a sign like this (and many others I've seen that suggest violence) where adults and especially kids can't avoid it, makes them anything but peaceful.

Denise Lapio's avatar

Several of us have been anti-protesters at their rallies. I can attest that some people participating are not civil or peaceful. They are hate mongers.

Susie Blake's avatar

I have tried speaking calmly with protestors of both sides when they are in PA to point out the real issues happening right across the street at Safeway and the health department. The Indivisible types either ignore, refuse to engage or are hostile the second the realize I am not 100% on their bandwagon. The opposition will usually actually listen to what I have to say. The far left in this county has pushed away a lot of moderate voters with the cult mentality.

Denise Lapio's avatar

Jed, I believe the tall man holding the cross with foul language is Sam Wood. His buddy is the bully, Brian Grad. They are usually a tandem.

Susan C Bonallo's avatar

Isn’t that just lovely? I hope he is making his family real proud. Another living example of not knowing how to police oneself. Geez…..grow up garbage mouth! (Jeff I hope you picked up on that last sentence)

All of the left at every level of government has aggressive communist/socialist members that are positioned where it is necessary.

In a small community like ours its easy to see them. Their synergism with the moderate feelers isn't much more than a do what I say or its BLM/Transtifa for you.... signal chat network coming down on you.

They care about the world more that they care about an individual citizen. Their X marks their spot and you better obey....They have no vision other than a vision of power and control.

They are belligerent to any opposition.

Good morning Jeff,

Great comments from all! I find it strange they can stand behind the cover of democracy as a goal. They promote a leadership that won't listen to the public and their concerns of the direction THIS county has been heading for too long. Real leadership listens... Go Jake Seegers!

Thank you Jeff, we wish you all a great day.

Jennifer's avatar

Glen, I believe getting Jake Seegers voted in will be the beginning of a great turn around for Clallam County tax payers ; )

It's really sad that they are the preeminent organization to bring candidate forums to the county for people to decide who they'd like to vote for. I say this because in the past I have followed their curated process of submitting questions in advance and only one was asked in part in an obvious way to favor the progressive candidate.

This organization is nothing more than junior high school, high school, behavior 50 years later by people who are reliving that environment through their emotions. And true to that environment typically driven by the "mean girls" you'll always find a few boy sniffing around because they can't help themselves. It's all very unseenly.

It would be really nice if an alternate forum for candidates existed that just ask the questions people would like answers to would take place instead the political mechanism that is the LWV.

John Worthington's avatar

Next year there will be another color on that flag of theirs to represent another oppressed group that gets to jump to the front of the line to exert power for the purposes of revenge.

Back in the day it was "technate", a card where everybody got the same amount. That was 1981. Every year since Communism/Socialism, repurposes old arguments and makes their play on America.

This time, in 2009 they got the tribes to buy in, then added layers to the list of the "oppressed." Since 2009, America has been invaded by an international group of Communist/Socialist that hover off America's government in NGO and take control. Even AI defends them.

Their whole environmental angle is bankrupt because Soros and Rothschilds want to ship thousands of miles shipping so they can avoid environmental accountability and pay dirt wages. They then use that money and USAID money to buy more control and power. It is irresponsible to turn every farm to open space , except the ones that want to use no till chemicals to farm limited market shares. They have a truck coming from a ship coming from Malaysia or some other Asian port going to Walmart, Safeway etc. Then , they chose to kill salmon by creating floods to take over property that will be taken over by tribes despite tsunami and sea level rise..and despite taking up farming space in a rain shadow. All using non-race based federal environmental grants and then converting the funds for race based purposes. Now they continue on and can only hate the people and the blog that exposes them all.

Got one of many Field Arts promotional emails. Just noticed LWV is a sponsor. Wonder if that is new?

John Worthington's avatar

Their purpose is to conduct art shows keeping the "Oppression Olympics "front and center.

Meanwhile, our community has had an outpost mentality in a geographical area that has its roots in forestry, tourism/Parks, fishing and hunting. The Pugetropolis model won't work here. With the mill leaving its all on the property owners and they know it. They don't want an American economy here or American property owners. They want a Canadian and tribal economy here, with government/tribal control over property.

Here's something to scratch your chin to. What if the CCWD wanted to be listed on the county's elections website where the political parties, and the LWV's are listed?

*** AI ***

1. The Watchdog Blog’s Argument for Inclusion

The blog’s legal argument would rely on Viewpoint Discrimination under the First Amendment.

Equal Access: The blog would argue that by listing the Democratic Party, the Republican Party, and the League of Women Voters (LWV), the county has created a "Limited Public Forum" for organizations that provide election-related information and advocacy.

The Pretense: If the county allows the LWV—which takes stances on legislation and ballot measures—to be listed, the blog would argue that excluding a "Watchdog" group that does the same thing is a violation of the First Amendment. They would claim the county is "picking winners and losers" based on the content of their speech.

Administrative Consistency: Under RCW 42.17A.555, if the county provides resources to assist voters in "promoting or opposing" ideas via the LWV or party links, they must offer that same "facility" to other similar organizations to avoid the appearance of using public resources to favor one specific political viewpoint.

2. The County’s Argument for Denial

The county’s legal defense would rely on Government Speech and Statutory Definitions.

Government Speech Doctrine: The county would argue that the website is a Non-Public Forum. Under this doctrine, the government has the right to curate its own "speech." They would argue the links are not an invitation for all political speakers, but a specific, narrow list of officially recognized entities.

The Pretense of "Official Status": The county would distinguish the current links from a blog by categorizing them as:

Statutory Entities: Political parties and Precinct Committee Officers (PCOs) are defined and regulated by Title 29A RCW. They have a specific legal status in the state's election architecture (e.g., they nominate replacement candidates for vacated offices).

Non-Profit vs. For-Profit: The county could argue they only link to registered 501(c)(3) or (c)(4) organizations (like the LWV) and not to private blogs or "for-profit" media, citing a desire to avoid a "Gift of Public Funds" violation under Article VIII, Section 7.

Reasonable Restrictions: Courts allow governments to restrict access to a forum as long as the restriction is reasonable and viewpoint-neutral. The county would argue that a blog is a "media outlet" or "commentary site," whereas the parties are "election participants." They would claim that opening the door to one blog would require them to link to every person with a social media account, creating an "undue administrative burden" and "voter confusion."

3. The "Legal Pivot" Point

The deciding factor in a court case would likely be the League of Women Voters link.

If the county defines the page strictly as "Official Election Participants," the blog loses, because the Republican and Democratic parties have a unique statutory role in Washington elections that a blog does not have.

However, because the LWV is a private advocacy group, its inclusion makes the county’s position more vulnerable. The blog could argue that the LWV is functionally no different from a political blog, and therefore, excluding the blog is unconstitutional viewpoint discrimination.

Conclusion: The county has the stronger legal standing if they stick to a "Statutory Entities Only" rule. However, by including the LWV, they have moved into a "gray area" of a Limited Public Forum, which gives the blog a legitimate legal foothold to demand inclusion based on the First Amendment's prohibition against viewpoint-based restrictions.

It happens subtlety, very subtle. It happens when leaders of groups bring their engrained backgrounds and life lessons forward to lead others. For instance educators are largely democrats. Teachers are trained and expected by their unions to be democrat, GO ALONG TO GET ALONG. In order to earn a paycheck & put food on the table, they usually learn skills to adapt in the democratic environment to exist. Later in life they go on to take lead positions in Republican circles and slowly teach Republicans to conform to go along to get along with democrats. Obama was a political activist and he learned well how to conform people. Again it is a form of brainwashing and unless you read the fine print and are able to connect the dots it is so easy to be led down the democrat pathway to socialism. Political correctness, conform, are democrat mottos. Remember Tim Wheeler, a registered communist, Obama activist, his father was accused of spying, and his family are communists routinely speaks at the BOCC, local gatherings, various democrat organizations, & has been a leader locally In organizing. He originally created Sequim Good Governance League, is a member of Indivisible and various other Democrat organizations locally, other state affiliates & national organizations. It is important to discard infiltrators see them for what they are, otherwise like cancer they will take over.

1952-President Kennedy referred to the communist threat as “an enemy, power(full), unrelenting and implacable who seeks to dominate the world by subversion and conspiracy”. He asserted “All problems are dwarfed by the necessity of the West to maintain against the Communists a balance of power”. He pointed out that containment was necessary not only for the United States military safety, but also because of the threat Communism posed in “ political & economic” spheres. ALMOST 75 years ago!
