What he has done is raise taxes to create funding for ‘affordable’ housing; he then uses that funding to get more grants — more tax dollars to fund ‘affordable’ housing. This isn’t about getting housing prices down, or making homes attainable for all income levels as I’ve seen the word used elsewhere. Affordable is government’s word now for subsidized public-funded housing. I question if the more people demand affordable housing, local government will keep supplying it in subsidized housing and then say it’s what the people asked for.
