Our Clallam County commissioner, Michael French, has a wonderful idea. We are going to log and oversee those citizens who have short term rentals. This sounds imposing. I have a different approach. How about enforcing the law prohibiting camping on public property, illegal drug use, and the waste and damage done with free drug supplies. We punish the lawful resident while ignoring the lawless.
Our county goals should include actions to improve the income of small businesses. Many people with short term income are needing this income to offset the steady rise in taxes and utility costs within our Clallam County. So, our County Commissioners want to make life more expensive, and more threatening, for our lawful residents.
Programs such as “Harm Reduction” are expensive and have failed to reduce the numbers addicted to harmful drugs. Instead we, as a society, have created a means to enable, and make dependency expand with the use of drugs and alcohol. My socializing with friends has become my recreation. I no longer travel, forgo expensive purchases, eat out less, and lead a more simple life. I use the library more, partake of events at our Shipley Center, and exchange coffee dates with friends. I do, however, recommend increasing your social connections with friends. Friends often have new ideas about spending. Minimize credit purchases. If I can't pay cash I defer. As for moving the choices are few. Where can one live more inexpensively? Well, the Indivisible crowd showed up, bashed Jake, trashed all those who criticized Harm Reduction and Dr. Berry, and unabashedly cried at the podium. I couldn' stay for the entire meeting and left during the first public comment, but things probably didn't improve. If only there had been real metrics cited by the SI crowd instead of the slobberfest from the Berry supporters. The best part: Jake called out French for laughing - smirking- at him and the countering statistics. Someone next to me snapped a photo of it. Hopefully you get a chance to see the replay.

Right now, the county restrictions are much easier than the city of Port Angeles for sure!

Well, the Indivisible crowd showed up, bashed Jake, trashed all those who criticized Harm Reduction and Dr. Berry, and unabashedly cried at the podium. I couldn' stay for the entire meeting and left during the first public comment, but things probably didn't improve. If only there had been real metrics cited by the SI crowd instead of the slobberfest from the Berry supporters. The best part: Jake called out French for laughing - smirking- at him and the countering statistics. Someone next to me snapped a photo of it. Hopefully you get a chance to see the replay.
None of that crowd that showed up to support Berry and harm reduction had any metrics. Unbelievable, and painful to watch them and their act, even the crying, where do these people come from. Lemmings all in a row.

Great article today CCWD! I am just tired of all the lies from those supposedly in charge? I wish we could vote right now to replace all KOMISSAR'S. Like so many of us, it would be nice to have clean communities, laws enforced, the homeless and addicted taken care of in a true compassionate manner. Get logging booming again, so that revenue is coming in. This county should have a lot more small business opportunities instead of them being pushed out. There's so much here that's being wasted by PISS POOR leadership.

When someone says “good science must not be bullied,” yet uses that phrase to defend a predetermined policy position, the statement stops being about science at all. It becomes a political instrument — a shield for a narrative rather than a commitment to evidence. That is exactly what we are seeing in this county’s approach to harm reduction.
We are pressured daily to conform to a preferred narrative: that harm reduction, as currently practiced here, is the only compassionate and scientifically valid path. Any data that challenges this narrative is dismissed, minimized, or reframed as ignorance, stigma, or hostility. Residents who ask for accountability are portrayed as uninformed or punitive. This is not how science operates. This is how ideology operates.
Across the country, cities that once championed expansive harm reduction programs are now rethinking them. Some are withdrawing from certain practices, scaling back distribution models, or restructuring programs to include stronger treatment pathways and measurable outcomes. They are doing this because their data — their own data — shows that harm reduction without treatment, without accountability, and without structural support does not produce the results they were promised. That is science responding to evidence.
Yet here, the same evidence is brushed aside. The same concerns are labeled as political. The same failures are reframed as successes. And the phrase “good science must not be bullied” is used not to protect inquiry, but to silence it.
Good science is not afraid of scrutiny. It does not require loyalty. It does not demand that communities accept a single narrative without question. Good science invites challenge, welcomes data, and adapts when reality contradicts theory. When leaders insist that questioning their preferred model is “bullying,” they reveal that the model cannot withstand examination.
A community cannot make informed decisions when evidence is selectively acknowledged. A county cannot improve outcomes when dissent is treated as a threat. And public trust cannot survive when residents see that science is being used as a rhetorical device rather than a method of discovery.
If we want solutions that actually work — solutions grounded in evidence, not ideology — then we must insist on scientific integrity. That means transparency, accountability, and the courage to admit when a strategy is not producing the results we need.
And how that will happen here locally? By who we vote into office, starting with Jake.

The SI frowny crowd at BoH today kept repeating the same ideology: believe the science; there are some in this room who spew mis and disinformation; Dr. Berry, thank you, etc. No metrics cited, no solid references, and heresay. Jake brought numbers, comparative narratives, and questions. And all French could do was fidget and laugh. French cannot handle a verifiable challenge.

Ultimately, French et al are quietly moving us toward one of the impossible 'utopian' solutions of the previous century, where individual rights are stripped away in favor of the collective. Ecology tells a different story. Trees have bark. Bears have fur. Snails have shells. Each has a boundary, yet each exists through relationships.
Under socialist principles, property rights gradually dissolve into the collective. The corollary is that free agency (free will) increasingly moves from the individual to the state. When this happens, it deadens people's ability to freely love, care, create AND have personal responsibility, something that Dostoevsky described in his work.
But there's something worse going on. In our current iteration, the mind virus inhabiting these folks are correct in one point, it seems: the dangers of corporatism. But ironically, in Clallam County, Washington, and many of the other blue states, corporatism/NGOs have merged with the state. This is actually fascism, what the left seems to think they are against, yet are participating in the rise of a weird version of it. Current planners are doing just that. NGOs and the Corp merging with state goals produce a semi-fascist alliance. Oh the irony!

Absolutely. No flu shot for me, in fact I've never had one in my life. Rarely ever sick. No covid shot for me and I never got sick either. Several of my girlfriends their daughters took covid shot and boosters, two of them out of three had miscarriages in first trimester, one had two miscarriages. That speaks volumes to me and I see commercials on TV pushing them still!

Fire, Life, Safety inspections are already current code in the county for Short Term Rentals along with a few other restrictions. I am sure many people aren't aware of this code. I went through many hoops to get my home approved including dealing with a permit that wasn't finaled over 20 years ago (that's another story!!!). https://clallam.county.codes/CCC/33.51 Here is more info on the FAQ section: What do I need to do for my Short Term Rental to make sure it's up to code? All Short Term rentals in Clallam County are REQUIRED to have a Fire, Life, Safety inspection. The Building Department will walk you through scheduling that inspection. Make sure all permits that are required for any building are current as well. I am not in favor of further restrictions at all or fees. Right now, the county restrictions are much easier than the city of Port Angeles for sure!
