On another topic, though it concerns government salary/benefit packages. Yesterday's PDN article about a potential teacher's strike provided this data: The mean salary of a Port Angeles School District teacher is $96,087, plus $1374/month in benefits, or $16,488/year, for a total of $112,575 annually. The average teacher works somewhere between 180-187 days/year, according to ChatGPT. So, if you multiply everything by two to extrapolate it out to working a full year like most working folks, that's about $225,150/year. Yet the schools rank as follows: Math: 42% proficiency; ELA: 50.7% proficiency; Science: 51% proficiency; Graduation rate: 73.9%, 9 points below WA state average of 83%. According to Co-Pilot, rankings vary by source, but all place Port Angeles in the mid-to-lower tier of Washington districts overall. Also, for the 2025–26 school year, the Port Angeles School District’s $63.1 million budget allocates $52 million to salaries and employee benefits, which represents about 82% of total expenditures. This is not a teacher-bashing post by any means, we all can agree that good teachers are important, just pointing out the fact that teachers make a pretty nice living, and that when you see what seems like annual requests for more money for the school district, what you're really seeing is an ask for salary/benefit hikes that private sector employees making far less aren't getting. And we're not even talking about retirement benefits ...
The consruction of local schools has hired Seattle and Tacoma companies to build OUR schools. They could use local electrical contractors but so far the only school to do so is Neah Bay. Why don’t our current leaders get involved to keep the taxes we pay be spent locally. Lack of leadership is evident. Sequim and PA schools now being designed and built are negotiating with Seattle based companies as we speak. The projects total over $300m in tax dollars and we watch it disappear from CC coffers. These are facts not fiction.Where is French Kiss and the other goof balls looking out for our money. I wonder when we vote again on school levies if they would put that fact on the ballot?
No but it is prevailing wage but not limited to union contractors. In fact the Stevens middle school and JST facility went to non union contractors out of Tacoma and Olympia
The local individuals who I have met who work as teachers and paras are all dedicated professionals. That said, the union demands and timing are ridiculous.
Here’s a weird thought: why not let them strike, which would bring everything out in the open for all to see? Including the fact that they want more $$ but the results show below average results for the students.
I agree. When they get the majority of students from K to graduation, then their compensation should be looked at. Yet they scream that it is unfair if they teach in a low income school district. But isn’t that why we started Head Start and other programs? I know a teacher that is a solid alcoholic, arrests and all. Yet the teachers union went in with big time lawyers and she still has her job teaching high school age girls life skills. She lives with her parents and her three kids part time. Terrific role model. Got caught drinking at an event she was over seeing students (think it was a dance)
PS I really liked all my daughter’s teachers in public school, until high school. They were a rabid pack of wolves, how dare me ask for a meeting after school. It’s already 2:30 pm and they have some class room stuff, damn it
For the actual hourly effort required, teachers make an obscene amount of money here in Clallam County, especially given the abysmal results in the true education of our children! There are now a tremendous number of very disturbing reports from colleges and universities that the incoming freshmen are SO dramatically "undereducated" that now many colleges need to teach basic reading, English, math, and science to these incoming freshmen so they can perform at the basic college curriculum level~! I come from a dedicated teaching family, and I have no problem pointing out that there are many teachers who should NOT be in the teaching profession, however even the best teachers are constantly prevented from doing their best to help the children learn because of the dictates that can be traced all of the way up the ladder to the criminally corrupt Federal Department of Education. We need to dismantle The Federal Department of Education that has failed many generations of children, remove ALL politics and social engineering efforts from our schools, dramatically reduce the size and scope of the administrative bureaucrats in all of the school districts, eliminate the many substandard and failed teachers that care more for their paycheck than they care about the children's education, and ONLY retain and hire the best qualified teachers who are dedicated to excel in their field~! Then, and ONLY then, will our children start to perform at the higher levels in school that they and America need AND there will in turn be plenty of money to richly reward all of the teachers who prove their value~! We MUST remove ALL unions from our educational system and government in general, because they have played a HUGE role in destroying America from the inside! American parents also need to stop allowing their schools to be little but "daycare prisons" that produce fewer and fewer high school graduates who are actually educated and employable... If "we" (Americans) expect little from our children, that is what we will get~! Our current school system has been a catastrophe for many decades, but it has been difficult for each generation to see because all generations alive today were underserved~!

You can judge a group by the people that join. Jim Stoffer and the League of Women Voters is case in point. Is this the only organization that allowed him to join? Speaks volumes regarding integrity in members. Way to go LWV. Aren’t you obsolete, women can vote!
It’s important for everyone to realize how much gov and gov adjacent people are making. But the salary comparison was only amongst themselves. The non gov affiliated tax payers are making considerably less even your local professionals, some by a lot.
And keep in mind: people who get their salary from the gov or affiliated with the gov do not pay taxes. They think they do. We’ve been convinced they do but it’s all a shell game. The money comes from and goes back to the same entity. They are not paying “taxes” they are just giving some money back to where it came from. They are just getting paid less. The only people truly paying tax are those of us generating money outside the gov. There’s a big difference between when the gov takes back some money they just gave you and when they take money from you they didn’t have any hand in generating. One is just an allowance reduction. The other is theft.
I think some do and some don’t. Depends on the state and what part of the gov they work for. If they have a full pension plan they won’t ever need SS. But again it’s all coming from gov and going back to gov. Shell game.
Under the older Federal retirement system, CSRS employees did not pay into Social Security, The later Federal retirement system, FERS employees did, and do.
A quick search finds most recent studies indicate closer to 40% of homeless are addicted, which would be roughly double what Berry claims. But keep in mind all of these studies are based on self reporting and there are many causes of inaccurate self reporting.
It's interesting that the board of health relies so heavily on soft data to defend their empire.
Suzie, if the percentage of addicted is so low according to Berry, why did Clallam County & the tribe need a MAT clinic? If the percentages are so low for addicted perhaps money spent on MAT should have gone toward the higher percentage of non addicted homeless. Perfect example of how Berry, tribe, County leaders change their narrative to suit the topic of discussion, say one thing today and the opposite the next. Saying there is such a low percentage of homeless addicted could have a negative impact on a functioning MAT clinic, unless more and more non-homeless seek addiction treatment. With more and more staff needed at the MAT the addicted have to be coming from somewhere?

Now I know I was mistaken, she is the worse doctor in 70 years, literally the worse! I lucked out she left Jamestown right before Covid, instead she went on to push the vaccine narrative in Clallam County to anyone who would listen to her fake/false news.
I remember her 'maiden name'. I always called Un-Thunk! She can't think for herself, and takes orders from above>> handlers. I'm glad she left for your health's sake!
The public health industry is welcome to start combatting misinformation at any time by earning trust through transparency, honesty, and accountability.

Above, in the section above, “Does it sound too good to be true?” Berry claims that only one in five homeless individuals are addicted to drugs. And this was from an article in the PDN. If a statistic is going to be used to support a public health argument, especially one that shapes county policy, the source should be named. She should know this, but she will use the numbers which support her belief.
Her followers will repeat that number without question, and yet when members of the public bring forward our own sourced information, we are met with chuckles and dismissiveness. This double standard is unacceptable. If they expect us to cite our data, they should be prepared to cite theirs.
I did a quick search this morning and found one national source reporting roughly 20–25%, or about one in five. There is a huge amount of data on this. However, the majority of studies I found show rates well above 50%, and in some areas — such as San Francisco — closer to 65%. If Berry is going to rely on the lowest statistic available, she should at least provide the source documents so the public can evaluate.
This is how stupid she is, where talking about CC all she has to do is take that walk on our streets. There in it for the money they are stealing our tax dollars and my home. Do i really want to be under her care?
Our County leaders should be ashamed. They should hang their heads for the lies and failure over the past 10 years to improve our cities in Clallam County. EVERYTHING IS WORSE! After reading a few paragraphs about the vivid homeless strewn all over town, perhaps the point is to MAKE IT SEEN? Is failure the justification needed for more services more salaries? Imagine for a second a street, parking lot, a business with no homeless laying around or shooting up in public……less services would be needed in supplies and workers. No person earning 6 figures is going to fix a gravy train especially when that person is not accountable for short term or long term results. As time continues things worsen & salaries go up. Tax-payers pay for it all, higher salaries, programs that exist but fix nothing because the gravy train must continue year after year………this is The Sting, A Big Hand for a Little Lady, it’s the Clallam County CON!
20m divided by 167= $119,000 average for each employee w/ benefits included. How much is left for the purpose of this cash cow helping anyone get help? I am afraid the answer is not much. CC is spending more on the less fortunate people most by choice than on essential services in our CC. Bankruptcy is in the future if we don’t wake up and start spending money in a more fiscally responsible way. OMC is broke and we are more worried about the druggies and homeless than an essential top employer and caretaker of CC. Today I drive to Silverdale for a Dr appt because we have no diabetic or specialists in CC. If there is it would be a year to get an appt like my lung dr here. Wake up CC disaster is only an employer away.

Jamestown gave her a scholarship to school. Probably got a degree in Political Science and gave her a Dr. degree. Wrong kind of Dr.

Keeping a close watch on what these local clowns are really doing is absolutely critical, because if they knew that the good folks of Clallam County were not paying attention, I am absolutely sure they would be committing even worse crimes and more underhanded dealings! As it is, I am sure that "we" don't know everything that the local clown show is plotting behind their closed doors. I also extend my gratitude to ALL of the good folks here on The Watchdog who are doing their part to protect our community from these abusive thugs & bullies who line their pockets at the expense of those who are helpless and can least defend themselves~! May all here enjoy a happy and prosperous week, as we get ready to enter the coming Fall season ;-)

After reading a few paragraphs about the vivid homeless strewn all over town, perhaps the point is to MAKE IT SEEN? Is failure the justification needed for more services more salaries? Imagine for a second a street, parking lot, a business with no homeless laying around or shooting up in public……less services would be needed in supplies and workers. No person earning 6 figures is going to fix a gravy train especially when that person is not accountable for short term or long term results. As time continues things worsen & salaries go up. Tax-payers pay for it all, higher salaries, programs that exist but fix nothing because the gravy train must continue year after year………this is The Sting, A Big Hand for a Little Lady, it’s the Clallam County CON!

20m divided by 167= $119,000 average for each employee w/ benefits included. How much is left for the purpose of this cash cow helping anyone get help? I am afraid the answer is not much. CC is spending more on the less fortunate people most by choice than on essential services in our CC. Bankruptcy is in the future if we don’t wake up and start spending money in a more fiscally responsible way. OMC is broke and we are more worried about the druggies and homeless than an essential top employer and caretaker of CC. Today I drive to Silverdale for a Dr appt because we have no diabetic or specialists in CC. If there is it would be a year to get an appt like my lung dr here. Wake up CC disaster is only an employer away.
My pulmonologist appointment will finally happen after 1 1 /2 years here in Sequim. Specialists are overwhelmed.
