Last week a public commenter at the BoCC meeting thanked the Board for only spending $200,000 of county money to complete Towne Road. Frankly, there are so many different people citing different costs for this project, that I am still unsatisfied with any answer. Too many people were involved in the TR issue to believe the pretty ribbon Ozias tied on the TR debacle. You are right, Jeff. Journalism in this county is dead. It used to be journalists sought out controversy because that's what sold newspapers. Now it's fluff stuff that nobody cares about. CCWD is bringing readers UPDATES and added information when it becomes available so that CC STAYS informed. Thank you, Jeff.
"It used to be journalists sought out controversy because that's what sold newspapers."
Indeed, Denise, and we can thank the media in general, as most naive people are lulled into complacency, believe they are getting the whole story, unaware that HUGE pieces are missing and the rest is politically skewed, and they hum along wearing their pink hats, "covid masks", and wondering when Survivor is on next. They are so far in the dark that they are no longer aware of sunlight.
As someone who has been in media since the late 1970s, including time at daily newspapers, weekly specialty newspapers, monthly magazines, and outdoor television, it's no surprise to me why new media like Watchdog is thriving and the old legacy media is dying on the vine. This importance is especially true in small communities like Clallam and Jefferson counties, where getting the facts and not the spin is difficult at best. Any talented media types here at Sound Publishing don't last since they make little money and those that remain have little incentive to pull back the curtain and "rock the boat." Love the local sports coverage, other than that it's mostly fluff and puff and stuff pulled from other sources that fill the pages with day-old news from around the state and nation that can easily be accessed elsewhere. Thank you, Jeff, for poking a stick into the hornet's nest.
"...other than that it's mostly fluff and puff and stuff pulled from other sources that fill the pages with day-old news from around the state and nation that can easily be accessed elsewhere."
Mr Tozzer, respectfully, a correction to your last sentence: "there’s no reason for elected officials to descend from their ivory towers. Why would they? They already control the MESSENGER."
Society depends on trust in order to operate. We're on a fragile balance with these actions of an elected official being able to conspire with a newspaper to tamp down opposition and alter facts.
I don't know who helped Ozias wordsmith that piece, but it's a clever way for him to build his CV for the upcoming 24 LD race if it's open. Ozias would likely run to fill the position if Tharinger retires. The SG just gave political time to an undeclared candidate for an unknown race and refuses to let an opposing view challenge the validity of what Ozias wrote.
I would have made the selection that "all citizens should have the right to share their views in the local newspaper" but the truth is that after infiltrating the so-called "news media" all across the US years ago, I realized that "we" (Americans) were already being brutally controlled by the criminals who only intend to harm everyone with their lies and deceptions. Of course, I learned that beyond any and all doubt back around 2000, so now some 25 years later and after everything we have gone through, especially the mass murder COVID genocide, my previous conclusive findings have been completely proven to have been 100% accurate. The interesting thing is that the other day, upon driving through Sequim, I just happened to notice the Sequim Gazette office was actually still there~! HA~! I had completely forgotten that it even existed, it had become so irrelevant to me, my family, and our life here. I just ignore the Peninsula Daily News as well, because long ago that filthy rag clearly betrayed the public trust and it has also been completely worthless to me for any kind of informational purposes. My parrot passed away years ago, so I no longer need to line the bird cage... Jeff Tozzer, The Clallam County Watchdog, and the great folks who engage in the public forum dialog here do a great job of bringing light to important matters within our community, and I have found that to be a FAR more Intellectual & productive exchange of information, ideas, and different opinions. So, yes, everyone should be allowed to voice their opinions and concerns, but I seriously doubt that most Americans will ever again trust the media as they once did. In fact, there will be a LOT more evidence coming out that will shake folks up about how they have been played for fools by the now failed media, so I expect that even more people will be finding other sources of news and involvement in their respective communities as the next few years unfold. Many will also learn how to do their own research and in doing that they will improve their personal discernment skills to become better citizens as well~! I believe that the "new media" has already been born out of the askes of the old corrupt manipulative media, so maybe these "government lapdog goons" of the local rags will shutter their doors, but one way or another they have already been replaced because of their own greed and corruption~! Have a great new week and I wish everyone a wonderful Independence Day this Friday, the 4th of July~! Sincerely, Mike
Amen to that too, Mike! And we wondered why George Soros was buying up hundreds of radio stations, as other Marxists bought out other media. No more wondering, eh? It is for this reason that I seek out small news outlets, blogs, and others for my news, the MSM be damned. I remember once believing in CBS's 60 Lies exposes, that most people think of as "60 Minutes", and when I had intimate knowledge of a story and saw how badly the newspapers butchered it, I lost all faith. After a reporter interviewed me once, the article that subsequently ran misspelled my name, had me living in a different town, and misquoted me. Amazing that anyone still believes in this corrupt media, let along subscribes.
I would be in favor of generous contributions to Jeff so that he can expand his reach so that still more Clallam County residents are aware of what's REALLY going on behind their backs. Say the word, Jeff, and I-- and I am sure most others here-- would help you make that happen.
Yes, there was a time LONG ago when I found at least some value in the media sometimes, but just like you I started to see their so-called "reporting" fall short of the truth more & more and these days they have sunken to a level where pretty much everything that is reported is the exact opposite from the truth~! Now, there is actually a GREAT value in knowing that the media is saying the opposite of the truth, because one only needs to know that to be able to better figure out what the truth really is and that can be useful ;-) It is just a different way of learning the truth or at least what the truth probably is. In any case, "we" can be sure that whatever the media is saying, it is almost a 100% chance to be lies and deception, or fatally incomplete reporting at best... It's all good when you know the rules of their sick games~! Absolutely, I am sure that if Jeff Tozzer wants to "raise the bar" a number of us would contribute and/or assist~! I see from his response to your suggestion that he will be at the fair this year and I will look him up to say hello. We NEVER miss the fair if we can help it, because that is exactly the kind of thing that we always love to do. Most of the time we hang out in the animal barns, but we always roam around most of the fairgrounds every year to check things out. Have a great evening and enjoy this wonderful weather~! Sincerely, Mike
Are any of you married to a strong-willed Woman!!! I've been trying to get her to do something for years!!! Thank you, Thank You, Thank You Mr.t. She gave up her subscription today.
My Sequim Gazette subscription was officially deleted on 6/25/25. Until true journalism is practiced again, it’s too expensive for fire starter. Its finally time to begin the recall of Mr Mark Ozias. If the citizens if Clallam County are serious about change, it begins with our Commissioners and their partisan tactics being held to a higher standard.
Thanks for presenting the facts, Jeff. I would encourage you to keep pushing for an opinion column based on the precedents the Gazette has set. As a back-up, a letter to the editor could serve as a way to open the eyes of non-CCW readers.
The incredibly unique status of sovereign nations within our nation is rife with both exploitation and potential exploitation by both tribal and non-tribal. Sovereignty provides ways and means to circumvent our laws. The quid pro quo of Ozias and the JKT is a small example. The long revered usual and accustomed ancient cultural practice of running casinos is another. Where are those treaty assured practices of woven bark nets & baskets, spears and bow/arrows and animal skin clothing and shelter to be seen ? I see the only way to correct this unfair and unequal status as treating the sovereign treaty entitled the same as all other sovereign nations with the same travel restrictions, taxes and tariffs. Alternatively, they can abandon sovereignty in favor of becoming fellow citizens; equal and welcome.
They are not interested in equality...they are interested in power and control and they have a whole house of well compensated yes-men and women running interference for them.
Even if we could displace the corrupt ones, they are going to get some other position which allows them to infiltrate and control.
A self-serving Tribe, self-serving and corrupt politicians, and a useless, one-sided, partisan, obfuscating "newspaper"-- what a perfect symbiosis of "Mushroom Management"-- keeping taxpayers in the dark and feeding them bullshit.
Just think how uninformed we would all be without Jeff's invaluable Clallam County Watchdog?
Thank you, Jeff! You are providing a much-needed voice Of the People, By the People, and For the People, whereas the entities that we expected to perform this function are producing something that is barely worth while as birdcage liners, and would be better off without any ink.
At least it's soy ink!...saving the planet one stupid idea at a time...my Hamilton Beach toaster lost its 'permanent' printed/painted on label because it was soy and dissolved when washed! 😳
I can't wait for the billion dollar 'salmon bridge' although I'm sure I'll never see it...unless I come back as a salmon!🤣
Ask Michael Dashiell about our meeting we had at Applebees in which I provided all the public records showing Stoffer was fired from the board and the literally countless complaints parents and students made regarding a coach at the school. Interesting how he never reported any of it and instead wrote a full page article praising said coach. The local media is DISGUSTING.
Off Topic but good reminder : Just came across a list I kept of comments and pictures submitted to NextDoor. The last 4 +- months I participated.
27 times my comments never showed up. Some were about big resort plan for Sequim Bay and my experience w/ developer. Asking to start new group , frustration w/ dump lot (Diamond Pt Rd /Gardiner Beach)
Post showing up two weeks later and completely out of context by then. 3 posts regarding night burning after clear cutting with no professionals on site.
(During Ca. Run away wild fires)
Asked why someone could call me a “Shit Stirrer” and they left that up for 2+ weeks The comment, not my question.
Wetland plan to scrape and back fill when state has a “No Net Losses” law re wetlands. I am so officious ! Painful to try to get group to play by their own rules. Horrible censorship in form of random placement.
I will try to forgive myself for thinking that was a good platform, but first
(Anti-Social toe dip into media) They quit telling me stuff was hidden and the reason. My words just disappeared . This is how we become trained monkeys. Nothing you say is valid. Thank you CC
Watchdog. I appreciate using words with more than one syllable !
So you have to be “somebody” in this County to matter? Part of a known “group”? Somebody with a “title”? Why does their weight around here matter so much…….NO MATTER WHAT IS DONE OR SAID OTHERWISE?
Why are all the numbers of people who show up, speak up, and stand up, with their voices, letters & concerns ignored by the leaders who govern and make policy over lives in this County?
From what I’ve witnessed in the last year and a half our leaders don’t care what the people say, they have their agenda, the weight is with a “somebody” a “group” ie., school board, trail group, women’s league, NGO’s including foreign, etc., or a “title”, ie., judge, attorney, board member, etc.,
There is hugh amount of people behind the scenes who write, attend weekly meetings, and continually participate in disapproval. FYI, all “those people” are a lot bigger than any “somebody”, “title” or small focused “group” who occasionally comes to life. “Those people” aren’t occasional, they are CONSTANT and will remain vigilant as they have done, and I thank and welcome them every day. The local papers are nothing but garbage and I can hardly find any for fire starter any more.
Jeff I have two comments: One, we need a guy like you representing us in local government but in a stronger position. Is the situation impossible or can we make Sequim great again? Two, Louis Armstrong's voice will never match that of my favorite singer Debbie Reynolds.
Every good person that goes in to politics becomes an unrecognizable, power bloated, egotist! We love Jeff just the way he is. The others would chew him up and feed him to the relocated gray wolves.

We are officially a Communist Community with a Communist rag.
The Peninsula Daily News is a partner in the NODC???
At that point the paper officially became the rag for the "Consortium."
Great comment John Worthington~!
Have a great 4th of July~!
Let freedom ring ;-)
Sincerely, Mike
John you hit the nail on the head!
AMEN to that!

If Tharinger supposedly lives in PT, why does he maintain a POB in Sequim?

We can't do that until more people are following Jeff and become aware of the malfeasance. I'm afraid that we're stuck with the SOB for now.
