I love your tag line - Suspicion thrives in the absence of transparency.

Ughhhhh —- in every way !! The affordable housing myth has destroyed so many beautiful properties- here in LO we have clear cuts that have created heat islands - no infrastructure and no walk ability !

paula graham's avatar

May I ask what or where is “LO”?

Jeff Tozzer's avatar

Bonnie is our field correspondent in Lake Oswego, OR.

paula graham's avatar

Ohhh….. interesting…thanks

Also - Jeff and Doug’s land lady ( the lady part is questionable 🤨)

I like your phrase" affordable housing myth" because a myth is all it is.In my opinion.

Seems like the tribe is trying to buy a lot of Sequim?  Should we just sell all of Sequim's best assets to the tribe?  What benefits come back to OUR community?  When is enough actually enough to satisfy the land grab? If we do not speak up at city and county meetings, write our city and county officials,  then we are consenting by default.

Very informative read! I’ve been hoping you were working on a story about Seabrook. My concern with this, besides any tribal involvement, is that I keep hearing about future water concerns with this and other current/up coming developments underway (Silberhorn/7th Ave & Spath Rd.). I wonder if any of our local government entities have a plan?

Jeff Tozzer's avatar

Good point. I know people are talking about the "deep well" off Silberhorn, but I haven't had a chance to "drill down" into that topic yet ;) Thanks for reading, Brooke.

They have written more than once, there is not enough water for the region. They have written more than once growth is not worth the infrastructure costs, except here. They want to house climate migrants over land owners. Now they want Lovie and Thurston to have land...This is the 15th official contradiction laid out by our non-profit squares. They have forfeited the freight corridor to the retail sales and sales tax milk run known as complete streets. We will pay more and more for companies to slog over here through the roundabouts and low speed corridors. We do not have near enough infrastructure to accommodate them...especially on a complete streets corridor.

Sea Brook is nicely done. The Wayne property is pretty special. Sooner or later it was going to be developed. Growth is inevitable. Especially in a digital world. Managing it is the trick. I for one am grateful to you Jeff for your efforts on CCW. Its informative. Helps my voting decisions.

You're welcome, Lawrence. Thanks for always reading.

I WILL ATTEND TONIGHT'S MEETING AS A REPRESENTATIVE OF "TRIBE U.S.A. (if allowed)

Jeff Tozzer's avatar

Dad and I will see you there.

paula graham's avatar

So for sure the public meeting tomorrow will allow the the public?

Jeff Tozzer's avatar

I believe so, but rights you have as a Washingtonian can be checked at the door... You are setting foot on a sovereign nation's land.

So by hosting the public meeting on their premises and likely using their equipment, does that preclude them from state PRR laws, public records request?

Leo Leblanc's avatar

And subject to JKT law!!!

I self-identify as a Tribal Member. Can I stop paying my taxes now?

John White's avatar

Why can't the tribe stick to running the casino and golf course? They make plenty of money to support their members. I'm indifferent to the development, but sick of seeing the tribe involved with everything in this area. Is taking over the city of Sequim next? Then they can call it Jamestown and be rid of the phonically challenged current name.

Think they have taken over the City of Sequim? Hasn’t that happened already, isn’t that why there is a totem pole there & no other nations symbol?

JamesRocklynTaylor's avatar

I for one love it. This will help address the short term rental issue, attract out of area money and give us an option over going to PT for a little urban beauty. Not every development will address affordable housing, this one is no different. But this one will pay property taxes, something neither the port nor tribe do.

John Worthington's avatar

Build a freight corridor before they come. Why are they so allergic to cloverleaf interchanges??? and so hung up on roundabouts..

I did a back-of-the-envelope calculation and what I estimated to cost $100K, tops, the taxpayers get soaked $500K. I imagine that the $400K mysteriously winds up in the Commissioners' pockets and re-election campaigns.

BTW, the same commissioner told me that A 4-way traffic signal costs $500K - 1M. Wow.

I am hearing rumors of PA City Council bad behavior at the last meet and greet. Any truth to that?

Dexter and Carr seemed very confrontational. I was not impressed.

Did Sequim subvert its public meeting obligations to the Tribe? Including ADA matters. Isn’t it a smoking establishment avoided by many residents with/without ailments. I think that could cause an issue if someone‘s accommodations weren’t provided. Ie smoke free.

Tribal sovereignty is one thing. Benefiting from sovereignty when most convenient and benefiting from U.S. residency when that is most convenient is blatant inequality. Taking business and/or real estate off of our tax rolls under the guise of sovereignty is unjust and unacceptable. Our transportation systems, inclusive of roads with and without pavement, motors, vehicles, nylon monofilament nets, sanitation systems, communication systems and a multitude of U.S. modernity is no part of Tribal ancestry, nor can the tribes lay any claim to their discovery or development. Crying the righteousness of living the old ancestral ways, while taking advantage of the new technology in which you played no part is the height of hypocrisy. Why do the tribes not return hollowed out

canoes, bark woven nets, spears and good old fashioned walking for sustenance ? You can't have it both ways.
